Book Synopsis Symmetry Breaking in the Standard Model by : Franco Strocchi
Download or read book Symmetry Breaking in the Standard Model written by Franco Strocchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-03 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a non-perturbative approach to the symmetry breaking in the standard model, in this way avoiding the critical issues which affect the standard presentations. The debated empirical meaning of global and local gauge symmetries is clarified. The absence of Goldstone bosons in the Higgs mechanism is non-perturbatively explained by the validity of Gauss laws obeyed by the currents which generate the relatedglobal gauge symmetry. The solution of the U(1) problem and the vacuum structure in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) are obtained without recourse to the problematic semiclassical instanton approximation, by rather exploiting the topology of the gauge group.

Book Synopsis Your First Parametric Designs in Autodesk® Inventor® 2020 by : Fabian Stasiak
Download or read book Your First Parametric Designs in Autodesk® Inventor® 2020 written by Fabian Stasiak and published by ExpertBooks Publishing House. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual is intended for people for whom this is the first contact with Autodesk Inventor software. However, individuals who are familiar with the program will find here useful information about using parameterization techniques for the streamline creation of variants of the product. In this manual, you will find extensive descriptions and detailed illustrations explaining the tools used and the correct workflow techniques. The book presents three examples of the use of parameterization. Example No 1. Designing a complete product In the first example, you will learn how to work in Inventor, from scratch. You will create a project of a simple drill vise, on which you will learn the basic operations of modeling and creating drawing documentation. This example emphasizes the principles of project management, from a single part through designing parts in the context of the assembly, checking the basic kinematics of the product, and further creating a complete drawing documentation containing item numbers and a parts list, as well as an exploding view of the product, rendered illustration and video. Then, thanks to the program parameterization and skillful file management, you will quickly create a new version of the drill vise with a complete set of drawing documentation as well as a rendered illustration and video of the new version of the product. Example No 2. Component libraries Most of the products being designed, use components purchased from external suppliers. For this reason, parametric 3D models of purchased components, which can be quickly inserted into the project instead of modeling each time from scratch, offer the greatest possible convenience for the constructor. In addition, component library files should be properly described, so that they are correctly presented in the bill of materials and also it should be placed in the library resources area, which will protect them from accidental editing. The examples presented here will teach you how to prepare your own parametric libraries of purchased components. Example No 3. The parametric generator of product versions In the third example, you will create a parametric generator for making a simple metal casing that allows you to obtain a model of any size, with or without handles and pre-prepared drawing documentation for each version. The generated version of the casing can be further modified in order to obtain the final appearance. In this example, you will learn the basics of designing sheet metal parts, the use of parameters in parts and in the assembly, and you will learn the basics of programming using iLogic and how to use iLogic parametric version generators. And... No additional files for download are required to complete the designs described - all files will be created from scratch in the exercises in sequence. Most of this manual is also compatible with previous versions of Inventor.
Book Synopsis TeV Gamma-Ray Astrophysics by : Heinrich J. Völk
Download or read book TeV Gamma-Ray Astrophysics written by Heinrich J. Völk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The `International Heidelberg Workshop on TeV Gamma-Ray Astrophysics' brought together astrophysicists from the various fields which play a role in the formation of high energy gamma-ray emission. In particular, theoretical and observational aspects of the physics and astrophysics of pulsars and quasars, the acceleration of particles at Supernova Remnants and other strong astrophysical shock fronts, and cascade processes in universal background photon fields were comprehensively discussed in more than thirty reviews by leading experts. In their entirety these reviews describe the birth of a new field of astronomy. This field concerns cosmic gamma-rays of very high energy which are observed with ground-based optical telescopes due to the Cherenkov emission of the secondary particles created by the interaction of these gamma-rays with atoms in the Earth's atmosphere. Beyond that, the workshop encompassed the latest developments and trends in theory and observation of cosmic gamma-ray sources of all energies, from nuclear gamma-ray lines in the MeV-region, through the Bremsstrahlung, Inverse Compton, and pion decay continuum emission, to gamma-rays due the decay of exotic relics from the early Universe. Audience: Specialists as well as students in physics and astrophysics and young research workers.
Book Synopsis Forecasting Financial Time Series Using Model Averaging by : Francesco Ravazzolo
Download or read book Forecasting Financial Time Series Using Model Averaging written by Francesco Ravazzolo and published by Rozenberg Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believing in a single model may be dangerous, and addressing model uncertainty by averaging different models in making forecasts may be very beneficial. In this thesis we focus on forecasting financial time series using model averaging schemes as a way to produce optimal forecasts. We derive and discuss in simulation exercises and empirical applications model averaging techniques that can reproduce stylized facts of financial time series, such as low predictability and time-varying patterns. We emphasize that model averaging is not a "magic" methodology which solves a priori problems of poorly forecasting. Averaging techniques have an essential requirement: individual models have to fit data. In the first section we provide a general outline of the thesis and its contributions to previ ous research. In Chapter 2 we focus on the use of time varying model weight combinations. In Chapter 3, we extend the analysis in the previous chapter to a new Bayesian averaging scheme that models structural instability carefully. In Chapter 4 we focus on forecasting the term structure of U.S. interest rates. In Chapter 5 we attempt to shed more light on forecasting performance of stochastic day-ahead price models. We examine six stochastic price models to forecast day-ahead prices of the two most active power exchanges in the world: the Nordic Power Exchange and the Amsterdam Power Exchange. Three of these forecasting models include weather forecasts. To sum up, the research finds an increase of forecasting power of financial time series when parameter uncertainty, model uncertainty and optimal decision making are included.
