Book Synopsis Balochistan and the Mélange of Violence by : Seema Khan
Download or read book Balochistan and the Mélange of Violence written by Seema Khan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive analysis of the intricate security situation prevailing in Balochistan. It explores and establishes correlations between the internal structural vulnerabilities and fault lines of the Pakistani state with the external influences exerted on the region. Employing a rigorous examination of both primary and secondary data, the volume critically examines the multifaceted nature of organised violence in Balochistan. In addition to separatist movements, the presence of religious militancy and cross-border terrorism is thoroughly examined. The book delves into the external involvement of regional and global powers in the intricate tapestry of violence within Balochistan, thereby shedding light on the emerging geopolitical landscape and the corresponding power dynamics in the region. It also analyses how the implementation of largescale developmental initiatives, particularly facilitated by China under the auspices of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has elevated the geostrategic significance of Balochistan while simultaneously entangling it in the vortex of regional power politics. This volume will be of interest to scholars and researchers specializing in geopolitics, International Relations, and South Asian studies.

Book Synopsis The Geology of Egypt by : Zakaria Hamimi
Download or read book The Geology of Egypt written by Zakaria Hamimi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-19 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book offers a concise overview of the geology of Egypt in the context of the geology of the Arab Region and Northeast Africa. An introductory chapter on history of geological research in Egypt sheds much light on the stages before and after the establishment of Egyptian Geological Survey (the second oldest geological survey worldwide), Hume's book and Said's 1962, 1990 books. The book starts with the Precambrian geology of Egypt, in terms of lithostratigraphy and classifications, structural and tectonic framework, crustal evolution and metamorphic belts. A dedicated chapter discusses the Paleozoic-Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonics and structural evolution of Egypt. A chapter highlights the Red Sea tectonics and the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba Rifts. Subsequent chapters address the Phanerozoic geology from Paleozoic to Quaternary. The Egyptian Impact Crater(s) and Meteorites are dealt with in a separate chapter. The Earth resources in Egypt, including metallic and non-metallic ore deposits, hydrocarbon and water resources, are given much more attention throughout four chapters. The last chapter addresses the seismicity, seismotectonics and neotectonics of Egypt.

This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume provides a summary of the geology of Eastern and Southeastern Tibet and its foreland. It covers an area of approximately 1.5 million square kilometers in 15 chapters on tectonic units that the authors recognize during 25 years of both field and laboratory study. Each chapter discusses the authors' understanding of the geology and offers interpretations of special geological relations, both local and regional, as well as currently unresolved problems of which there are many in this vast and poorly known region. Chapter 16 summarizes and interprets the preceding chapters. The volume is accompanied by CDs containing four plates: two tectonostratigraphic maps, a map of unconformities and a plate of cross sections, in both Illustrator and ArcGIS formats. This is a unique map presentation and one that the authors suggest as a model for all geological maps"--Provided by publisher.

Book Synopsis The Geology of Continental Margins by : C.A. Burk
Download or read book The Geology of Continental Margins written by C.A. Burk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 976 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continental margins of the world constitute the most impressive and largest physiographic feature of the earth's surface, and one of fundamentally great geological significance. Continental margins have been the subject of increasing attention in recent years, an interest focused by a body of new data that has provided new insights into their character. This interest was further stimulated by the realization that, in addition to the abundant living resources, continental margins contain petroleum and mineral resources that are accessible with existing technology. This realization, along with their basic geological importance, has provoked further research into the nature of continental margins throughout the world. A summary of these findings, as related to both recent and ancient continental margins, is the subject of this book. At various times in the past we had been approached individually to prepare a basic reference to continental margins; we then proposed to do such a volume jointly. However, the stimulus for the present volume eventually arose from a Penrose Conference arranged through the Geological Society of America. This conference was attended by specialists of numerous disciplines and from throughout the world, many of whom insisted that such a volume would be both timely and useful. Consequently, we agreed to undertake the task of assembling this book, with the objectives of making it available as soon and as inexpensively as possible.
