Book excerpt: Surah al-Fatiḥah (Arabic: سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَة ) is the first chapter (surah) of the Quran. Its seven verses (ayat) are a prayer for the guidance, lordship and mercy of God. This chapter has an essential role in Islamic prayer (salat). The primary literal meaning of the expression "al-Fatiḥah" is "The Opener," which could refer to this Surah being "the opener of the Book" (Fatiḥat al-kitab), to its being the first Surah recited in full in every prayer cycle (rakʿah), or to the manner in which it serves as an opening for many functions in everyday Islamic life. Some Muslims interpret it as a reference to an implied ability of the Surah to open a person to faith in God. The name al-Fatiḥah ("the Opener or the opening") is due to the subject-matter of the surah. Fatiḥah is that which opens a subject or a book or any other thing. In other words, a sort of preface. The word الفاتحة came from the root word فتح which means to open, explain, disclose, keys of treasure etc. That means sura Al-Fatiha is the summary of the whole Quran. That is why we recite another Ayat or sura along with Fatiha in our prayers. That is, sura Al-Fatiha is paired with rest of the whole Quran. It is also called Umm Al-Kitab ("the Mother of the Book") and Umm Al-Quran ("the Mother of the Quran"); Sab'a al Mathani ("Seven repeated [verses]", an appellation taken from verse 15:87 of the Quran); Al-Hamd ("praise"), because a hadith narrates Muhammad as having said that GOD says: "The prayer [al-Fātiḥah] is divided into two halves between Me and My servants. When the servant says, 'All praise is due to God', the Lord of existence, God says, 'My servant has praised Me'."; Al-Shifa' ("the Cure"), because a hadith narrates Muhammad as having said: "The Opening of the Book is a cure for every poison."; Al-Ruqyah ("remedy" or "spiritual cure")., and al-Asas, "The Foundation", referring to its serving as a foundation for the entire Quran.

Book excerpt: The Meaning of Surah 99 Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) From Holy Quran Bilingual Edition In English and Spanish Languange Standar Version. Surah Al-Zalzalah (The Earthuake") is the 99th chapter (surah) of The Holy Qur'an, composed of 8 verses (ayat). Though it is usually classified as a Medinan surah, the period under which the surah was revealed is not unanimously agreed upon by Qur'anic exegetes. The surah begins by describing how on the Day of Judgment, the Earth will give off a terrible earthquake and "throw up her burdens". Through the inspiration of God, the Earth will bear witness to the actions of men it has witnessed. According to Michael Sells, the earth opening up and bearing forth her secrets in this surah is indicative of a birth metaphor. The earth al-'Ard in the feminine gender bears forth of how her lord revealed the final secret to her. Human beings will then realize that the moment of accountability has arrived. This meticulous accountability will reflect good and evil deeds that might have seemed insignificant at the time. The two concluding verses state that all men will be sorted out into groups according to their deeds, and they will see the consequence of everything they have done; every atom's weight of good or evil: That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds. And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then, And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then. — The Holy Qur'an, verses 99:6-8 (translated by Marmaduke Pickthall) Its theme is the second life after death and presentation in it before man of the full record of the deeds done by him in the world. In the first three sentences it has been told briefly how the second life after death will take place and how confounding it will be for man. In the next two sentences it has been said that this very earth on which man has lived and performed all kinds of deeds thoughtlessly, and about which he never could fancy that this lifeless thing would at some time in the future bear witness to his deeds, will speak out on that Day by Allah's command and will state in respect of each individual person what act he had committed at a particular time and place. Then, it has been said that men on that Day, rising from their graves, will come out in their varied groups from all corners of the earth, to be shown their deeds and works, and their presentation of the deeds will be so complete and detailed that not an atom's weight of any good or evil act will be left unnoticed or hidden from his eyes.

Book excerpt: The Meaning of Surah 113 Al-Falaq (The Daybreak) El Amanecer From Holy Quran Bilingual Edition In English & Spanish Languange. Surah al-Falaq (The Daybreak") is the 113th surah of the Qur'an. It is a brief five verse invocation, asking Allah SWT (God) for protection from the evil of Satan. This surah and the 114th (and last) surah in the Qur'an, an-Nas, are collectively referred to as al-Mu'awwidhatayn "the Refuges", as both begin "I seek refuge", an-Nas tells to seek God refuge from the evil from within, while al-Falaq tells to seek God refuge from the evil from outside, so reading both of them would protect a person from his own mischief and the mischief of others. The word "al-Falaq" in the first verse, a generic term referring to the process of 'splitting', has been restricted in most translations to one particular type of splitting, namely 'daybreak' or 'dawn'. Verse 4 refers to one of soothsayer techniques to partially tie a knot, utter a curse and spit into the knot and pull it tight. In the pre-Islamic period, soothsayers claimed the power to cause various illnesses. According to soothsayers the knot had to be found and untied before the curse could be lifted. This practice is condemned in verse 4.

Book excerpt: The Meaning & The Translation of Surah Al-Fatihah & Juz Amma from The Holy Quran In English Languange. The Holy Quran (also written as Koran) is the eternal and literal word of God. Prophet Muhammad ( an Arab and a descendant of Abraham) received these divine revelations (The Holy Quran) over a period of 23 years in the seventh century of the Common Era (C.E.). Each revelation was written down by the Prophet's scribes according to the Prophet's instructions. The current order and organization into the 114 chapters (surahs) of the entire revelations were therefore given to us by the Prophet himself. Additionally, the Prophet and many fellow Muslims (sahabah) had committed the entire Quran to memory. The practice of memorizing the whole Quran continued throughout the centuries. There are thousands of such Muslims, known as Huffaz, usually one for each Mosque in Muslim countries. To learn more on this, please read Preservation of the Quran. In order to gain a proper understanding of many verses in the Holy Quran, it is important to understand and know the historic context of the revelations. So many revelations in the Holy Quran came down to provide guidance to Prophet Muhammad and the fellow Muslims based on what they were confronting at that time. "Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil). Who believe in the Unseen, and establish worship, and spend of that We have bestowed upon them; And who believe in that which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) and that which was revealed before thee, and are certain of the Hereafter. These depend on guidance from their Lord. These are the successful. As for the Disbelievers, Whether thou warn them or thou warn them not it is all one for them; they believe not. Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Chapter 2)

Book excerpt: The Meaning of Surah 24 An-Nur The Light (La Luz) From Holy Quran (El Sagrado Corán) Bilingual Edition English And Spanish. Surah An-Nur (The Light) is the 24th sura of the Qur'an with 64 ayat. The general agreement of scholars is that this sura was revealed shortly before or after the Battle of the Trench in 5 AH. The surah begins with various explanations and decrees on or relating to corrupt sexual acts, family law, and specifications on the giving of testimony. Foremost amongst these rulings is God's punishment for adultery. This section ends with the pronouncement that good men and women should be paired together, as should corrupt men and corrupt women. This discussion turns into reflections on privacy and modesty, namely of hosts and women. Contained herein are several regulations and explanations of modesty, most directly lines traditionally used to argue for the wearing of hijab. After these prohibitions are cast for women, the text turns towards men, asking them not to oppress slavegirls into prostitution, and to marry those women who need husbands, despite their poverty. After a second statement of the Quran's status as a clear sign from Allah SWT, the famed Ayat an-Nur appears. This is often referred to as "the Light Verse", or "the Parable of Light", a mystical group of lines that has been the subject of much scholarship and reflection. "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His light is as if there were a niche and within it a lamp: the lamp enclosed in glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His light: Allah doth set forth parables for men: and God doth know all things."

Book excerpt: The Holy Quran (القران الكريم) Surah 001 Al-Fatihah The Opening and Surah 114 An-Nas The Mankind Arabic Edition Lite Version. The Holy Quran is a compilation of the verbal revelations given to the Prophet Muhammad SAW Last Messenger of Allah SWT (God) over a period of twenty three years. The Holy Quran is the Holy Book or the Scriptures of the Muslims. It lays down for them the law and commandments, codes for their social and moral behaviour, and contains a comprehensive religious philosophy. The language of The Holy Quran is Arabic. Besides its proper name, The Holy Quran is also known by the following names: al Kitab (The Book); al Furqan (The Discrimination): al Dhikr (The Exposition); al Bayan (The Explanation); al Burhan (The Argument); al Haqq (The Truth); al Tanzil (The Revelation); al Hikmat (The Wisdom); al Huda (The Guide); al Hukm (The Judgment); al Mau'izah (The Admonition); al Rahmat (The Mercy); al-Noor (The Light); al-Rooh (The Word). The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs or Chapters and each Chapter consists of individual Ayaat or verses. There are in total 6,348 verses in The Holy Quran. The Surahs are of varying lengths, some consisting of a few lines while others run for many pages. Surah al Baqarah (Ch.2) is the longest Chapter comprising 287 verses while Surah al Kauthar (Ch. 108) is the shortest with only four verses including the tasmia. The text of The Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1400 years. The millions of copies of the Quran circulating in the world today are all identical down to a single letter. And this is not strange since Allah SWT (God) The Creator of Earth and Heaven says in The Holy Quran that He Himself will guard this book: "Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians" (The Holy Quran 15:10)

Book excerpt: The name of this chapter (surah) is taken from the story of Maryam (Mary), mother of Jesus (verses 16-35). It begins with an account of the birth of John (Yahya) and of Jesus (Isa), the last representatives of prophecy in the house of Israel. The claim that Jesus is the son of God is firmly denied, as is the assertion of the pagans of Mecca that the angels are God's daughters. It then mentions the missions of some earlier prophets, showing that only human beings are raised to reform the world. Consisting of 93 verses, this is one of the early Meccan chapters, and was recited to Negus (Christian king of Abyssinia) in the presence of hostile ambassadors of Quraish, in the fifth year of Prophet Muhammad's advent, nine years before Hijrah, by Ja'far, the head of the Muslim refugees, whereupon, according to the earliest Muslims chroniclers, the king and the bishop wept saying, 'Indeed, this revelation and that of Moses proceed from one and the same source.' The Holy Quran makes us believe in the power of God in such a way that it enables us to see beyond the predictability of cause and effect. Although God has made this universe in such a way that for everything there is physical reasoning but at the same time God has also made miracles happen which make us realize that God is not dependent on these laws. We find in the Quran such examples which make us "see" this power, so that the closer we come towards Him with love and submission, the more belief we have in our hopes and dreams turning into reality.

It is named after honey bees, and contains a comparison of the industry and adaptability of honey bees to the industry of man. Regarding the timing and contextual background of the supposed revelation (asbal al-nuzul), it is an earlier "Meccan surah", which means it is believed to have been revealed in Mecca, instead of later in Medina. This surah warns against polytheism, saying that the pagan gods cannot create anything [Quran 16:20], and against comparisons between Allah SWT (God) and any created beings [Quran 16:74]. It praises Allah SWT (God) for giving the Earth with all its wealth to mankind. According to this surah, all wonders of the natural world, like seas, stars, mountains are proofs of God's infinite power [Quran 16:14]. The verse 66 talks about the miracle in milk formation in cattle: "From what is within their bodies, between excretions and blood, We produce for your drink, milk, pure and agreeable to those who drink it." The verse 67 talks about miracle of vine: "And from the fruit of the date-palm and the vine, ye get out strong drink and wholesome food: behold, in this also is a sign for those who are wise".

Book excerpt: The Meaning of Surah 10 Yunus (Prophet Jonah AS) From Holy Quran (Священный Коран) Bilingual Edition In English and Russian Languange. Yunus (Jonah) is the 10th chapter (surah) of the Quran with 109 verses (ayat). Yunus is named after the Prophet Yunus AS (Jonah). According to traditional islamic chronology (asbab al-nuzul), it is believed to have been formulated or "revealed" before the migration of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his followers from Mecca to Medina, as such, it is known as a Meccan surah. The initial verses of the chapter (1-70) presents an argumentative dialogue between Islam and its unbelievers. The rest contains the stories of Prophet Nuh AS (Noah), Prophet Musa AS (Moses) and Prophet Yunus AS (Jonah), all considered prophets in Islam. The chapter also mentions the People of Jonah, who at first rejected Prophet Yunus AS (Jonah) message, but then repented and believed. Therefore, unlike the people of Noah and Moses, they were averted from Allah SWT (God) punishment. The mention of Jonah in verse 98 gives the chapter its name.
