Book Synopsis McKenzie Family Tales and Select Overripe Wild Persimmons by : Francis L. McKenzie
Download or read book McKenzie Family Tales and Select Overripe Wild Persimmons written by Francis L. McKenzie and published by Trafford on Demand Pub. This book was released on 2000-12 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an attempt by a new American author with Scots-Irish ancestry, at the age of 70, to recount part of the history of his family of McKenzies, which touches eight generations. The story covers the time distance from the settling of the American mid-west (Washington County and Southern Illinois in particular), through the Civil War era (in which four of his great grandfathers fought, one against the others), through the Great Depression (in which he was born), through World War II (in which his father of four served), and into the recovery of the nation from that war and beyond. Mixed with the family facts are family tales, many probably told "out of school" by this humorist storyteller. A good sample of his aunt's poems are included, as well as some of his own juvenile verses. There are copious photos that tell a tale of their own. If you want to know what a one room rural school was like in the late 1930's and early 1940's through the memory of a child who was there, you will enjoy reading McKenzie Family Tales.

Book Synopsis The New World of Economics by : Richard B. McKenzie
Download or read book The New World of Economics written by Richard B. McKenzie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New World of Economics, 6th edition, by Richard McKenzie and Gordon Tullock, represents a revival of a classic text that, when it was first published, changed substantially the way economics would be taught at the introductory and advanced levels of economics for all time. In a very real sense, many contemporary general-audience economics books that seek to apply the “economic way of thinking” to an unbounded array of social issues have grown out of the disciplinary tradition established by earlier editions of The New World of Economics. This new edition of The New World will expose new generations of economics students to how McKenzie and Tullock have applied in a lucid manner a relatively small number of economic concepts and principles to a cluster of topics that have been in the book from its first release and to a larger number of topics that are new to this edition, with the focus of the new topics on showing students how economic thinking can be applied to business decision making. This edition continues the book’s tradition of taking contrarian stances on important economic issues. Economics professors have long reported that The New World is a rare book in that students will read it without being required to do so.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After farming in Ontario, Canada, for over 20 years, Kenneth McKenzie, an immigrant from Inverness-shire, Scotland, travelled from Guelph, Ontario to Burnside, west of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, several times from 1867 to 1870, establishing one of the first farms in the area. The Diary covers four of these trips and the work that went into establishing a home and farm at Burnside. This was at a crossroads in history with first a provisional government lead by Louis Riel, and then the establishment of the Manitoba Government in 1870.
