He even had a ''cup of coffee'' in professional baseball. Hadley was successful as a high school and college coach. Yet, he never reached the greatness he felt was due him. Hadley Hicks shares his heart in his search for significance. His poignant, humorous, and down to earth writing style makes an enjoyable read. He is candid in his heartbreaks, the sin of divorce and the death of his eldest son. He survived a parental petition for his dismissal as football coach. He livened up his teaching experiences with an accidental shooting and a premeditated murder. He kept his fellow faculty alert with numerous practical jokes. Among student-athletes he mentored was a Cy Young Award winner and three professional football players. Hadley's marriage to a Godly woman who is his spiritual teammate, provided impetus for finding eternal significance in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Book Synopsis The Quiet American by : Graham Greene
Download or read book The Quiet American written by Graham Greene and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “masterful . . . brilliantly constructed novel” of love and chaos in 1950s Vietnam (Zadie Smith, The Guardian). It’s 1955 and British journalist Thomas Fowler has been in Vietnam for two years covering the insurgency against French colonial rule. But it’s not just a political tangle that’s kept him tethered to the country. There’s also his lover, Phuong, a young Vietnamese woman who clings to Fowler for protection. Then comes Alden Pyle, an idealistic American working in service of the CIA. Devotedly, disastrously patriotic, he believes neither communism nor colonialism is what’s best for Southeast Asia, but rather a “Third Force”: American democracy by any means necessary. His ideas of conquest include Phuong, to whom he promises a sweet life in the states. But as Pyle’s blind moral conviction wreaks havoc upon innocent lives, it’s ultimately his romantic compulsions that will play a role in his own undoing. Although criticized upon publication as anti-American, Graham Greene’s “complex but compelling story of intrigue and counter-intrigue” would, in a few short years, prove prescient in its own condemnation of American interventionism (The New York Times).

Book Synopsis The I Do's and I Don'ts of a Successful Marriage by : Rick L. Cox
Download or read book The I Do's and I Don'ts of a Successful Marriage written by Rick L. Cox and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The I Do's and I Don'ts of a Successful Marriage By: Rick Cox The book is about marriage and relationships. I realize there are many self-help books covering a variety of issues. My desire however, was to write a book about marital as well as other relationships, that is easy to read yet has enough substance to positively impact readers on a level that would motivate an inward desire to change for the better. This is a book that will open the eyes of readers to the fact they are as normal as anyone else. It is a book showing how a few changes or corrections in one's daily interaction with one's spouse could make for a better tomorrow. The reader will learn not to react, responding instead with the right motive and attitude. the reader will be able to see how, by doing the right things, one's life can change for the better, and so can the lives of all in the household. I grew up hearing how difficult the marital relationship is due to the differences between men and women. I heard about how women are hard to figure out or that most men never know what it is their wives want. In my life, I have not found this to be true. what I have found is it takes a conscious effort on my part to observe and get to know my wife, her likes and dislikes, her wants, hopes, dreams, and desires. During this observation I learned she did not like all the things I did, and that was okay. I learned to accept the fact she might not want to do what I want to do, and it is okay if I don't want to do what she wants. I learned she is romantic and even has her own personal language. This is a language she and other women appear to understand, but it didn't readily make sense to me. I believe you will find this book to be quite informative and to the point. It will make you think hard about how you interact with your spouse on a daily basis. It will also teach you something about the most important college you will ever attend: the college of life.

Book Synopsis The Shape of the Great Pyramid by : Roger Herz-Fischler
Download or read book The Shape of the Great Pyramid written by Roger Herz-Fischler and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who has not seen a picture of the Great Pyramid of Egypt, massive in size but deceptively simple in shape, and not wondered how that shape was determined? Starting in the late eighteenth century, eleven main theories were proposed to explain the shape of the Great Pyramid. Even though some of these theories are well known, there has never been a detailed examination of their origins and dissemination. Twenty years of research using original and difficult-to-obtain source material has allowed Roger Herz-Fischler to piece together the intriguing story of these theories. Archaeological evidence and ancient Egyptian mathematical texts are discussed in order to place the theories in their proper historical context. The theories themselves are examined, not as abstract mathematical discourses, but as writings by individual authors, both well known and obscure, who were influenced by the intellectual and social climate of their time. Among results discussed are the close links of some of the pyramid theories with other theories, such as the theory of evolution, as well as the relationship between the pyramid theories and the struggle against the introduction of the metric system. Of special note is the chapter examining how some theories spread whereas others were rejected. This book has been written to be accessible to a wide audience, yet four appendixes, detailed endnotes and an exhaustive bibliography provide specialists with the references expected in a scholarly work.
