Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a digital computer program system that is capable of calculating the supersonic and hypersonic aerodynamic characteristics of complex arbitrary three-dimensional shapes. This program is identified as the Mark IV Supersonic-Hypersonic Arbitrary-Body Computer Program. This program is a complete reorganization and expansion of the old Mark III Hypersonic Arbitrary-Body Program. The Mark IV program has a number of new capabilities that extend its applicability down into the supersonic speed range.

Download or read book Mark IV Supersonic-hypsersonic Arbitrary-body Program Modifications and Computer Graphics written by S. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modifications were made to two areas of the Mark IV Supersonic Arbitrary-Body program. First, the previous streamline method was replaced with one capable of tracing continuous surface streamlines. The method includes a means of locating the origins of the streamlines. Changes were also made to the viscous methods in the Mark IV code. The integral boundary layer methods, which must be applied along inviscid streamlines, were modified to ensure their compatibility with the new streamline method. Several discrepancies were observed in the previous coding of the integral methods, and the problems were corrected. (Author).

Book Synopsis Hypersonic Aerothermodynamics by : John J. Bertin
Download or read book Hypersonic Aerothermodynamics written by John J. Bertin and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modern treatment of hypersonic aerothermodynamics for students, engineers, scientists, and program managers involved in the study and application of hypersonic flight. It assumes an understanding of the basic principles of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, compressible flow, and heat transfer. Ten chapters address: general characterization of hypersonic flows; basic equations of motion; defining the aerothermodynamic environment; experimental measurements of hypersonic flows; stagnation-region flowfield; the pressure distribution; the boundary layer and convective heat transfer; aerodynamic forces and moments; viscous interactions; and aerothermodynamics and design considerations. Includes sample exercises and homework problems. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Synopsis Conceptual Shape Optimization of Entry Vehicles by : Dominic Dirkx
Download or read book Conceptual Shape Optimization of Entry Vehicles written by Dominic Dirkx and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-09 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the parameterization of entry capsules, including Apollo capsules and planetary probes, and winged entry vehicles such as the Space Shuttle and lifting bodies. The aerodynamic modelling is based on a variety of panel methods that take shadowing into account, and it has been validated with flight and wind tunnel data of Apollo and the Space Shuttle. The shape optimization is combined with constrained trajectory analysis, and the multi-objective approach provides the engineer with a Pareto front of optimal shapes. The method detailed in Conceptual Shape Optimization of Entry Vehicles is straightforward, and the output gives the engineer insight in the effect of shape variations on trajectory performance. All applied models and algorithms used are explained in detail, allowing for reconstructing the design tool to the researcher’s requirements. Conceptual Shape Optimization of Entry Vehicles will be of interest to both researchers and graduate students in the field of aerospace engineering, and to practitioners within the aerospace industry.

Download or read book Investigation of Numerical Techniques for Predicting Aerodynamic Heating to Flight Vehicles written by Arthur B. Lewis (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of complex lifting configurations and high speed maneuvering vehicles has emphasized the need for numerical techniques to predict aerodynamic heating rates as a function of the vehicle trajectory. These numerical programs are not expected to eliminate the requirements for wind tunnel and flight testing, but will be an aid to more efficient use of experimentation time and improve confidence that all potential problem areas on the vehicle have been examined. Three programs, the Hypersonic Arbitrary Body Program, the MINIVER Program, and a third program were examined to determine their usefulness for vehicles with non-circular cross sections and large flat areas as exemplified by lifting reentry vehicles. The MINIVER code was found to be unsuitable for this; the Hypersonic Arbitrary Body Program was applicable to these shapes, but because of program limitations was used for only limited calculations. The last program also had limitations in the areas of geometry description and surface pressure calculations. Efforts were made to remove these limitations and several shapes were investigated. The ultimate goal of this effort was to extend the capabilities of one or more of the heating codes; while no effort was made to improve MINIVER or the Hypersonic Arbitrary Body Program, significant improvements were made in the last program and inviscid flow field program.
