Newly updated, this guide offers a tour of hotels, gravesites, streets and places mentioned in these novels, complete with maps, photos, some usual and some unusual tourist information like the fictional settings of Anne's Vampires and Witches.

Book Synopsis The Keepers of the House by : Shirley Ann Grau
Download or read book The Keepers of the House written by Shirley Ann Grau and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “beautifully written” Pulitzer Prize–winning novel about prejudice and a distinguished family’s secrets in the American South (The Atlantic Monthly). Seven generations of the Howland family have lived in the Alabama plantation home built by an ancestor who fought for Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. Over the course of a century, the Howlands accumulated a fortune, fought for secession, and helped rebuild the South, establishing themselves as one of the most respected families in the state. But that history means little to Abigail Howland. The inheritor of the Howland manse, Abigail hides the long-buried secret of her grandfather’s thirty-year relationship with his African American mistress. Her fortunes reverse when her family’s mixed-race heritage comes to light and her community—locked in the prejudices of the 1960s—turns its back on her. Faced with such deep-seated racism, Abigail is pushed to defend her family at all costs. A “novel of real magnitude,” The Keepers of the House is an unforgettable story of family, tradition, and racial injustice set against the richly drawn backdrop of the American South (Kirkus Reviews). This ebook features an illustrated biography of Shirley Ann Grau, including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

Book Synopsis Honey Island Swamp Monster Documentations by : Dana A. Holyfield
Download or read book Honey Island Swamp Monster Documentations written by Dana A. Holyfield and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-06-07 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harlan Ford was the first person to pour plaster castings of tracks and report a sighting to the media of an unknown creature known worldwide as the legendary Honey Island Swamp Monster. Harlan Ford was my grandfather. While recently moving everything from the Ford home after it was sold, we came across a letter that Harlan Ford wrote in the 1970's about his encounter with the Honey Island Swamp Monster. After Harlan Ford passed away in 1980, his story of the Honey Island Swamp Monster has been told and retold by many people. As we all know when things are retold so many times, certain details change, get exaggerated, maybe by accident, maybe on purpose. But luckily Ford's encounters were documented in his own words in the letter. I have inserted Harlan Ford's actual letter in this book for you to read. There are also recent eye-witness encounters that are documented in this book.

Download or read book Nocino Noir written by Traci Andrighetti and published by Limoncello Press. This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franki's coffee shop noir is a hard nut to crack! It’s a slow, steamy summer in New Orleans’ French Quarter, but Franki Amato is busy planning her bridal shower—that is, until a hit-and-run outside a coffee shop gets her PI senses percolating. The victim is linked to crimes at a fancy society wedding in a haunted hotel where Franki’s fiancé’s family is staying. As for the java joint, it’s straight out of a hardboiled detective movie, and there’s something hinky about its walnut liqueur coffee. Franki’s Sicilian nonna says the macabre events are proof the malocchio has been cast on her impending marriage, and to her utter surprise, her future grandmother-in-law also suspects the evil eye. To save her wedding and solve the case, Franki must investigate some shady places, from a witch shop and bridal swap to a shack in the swamp. She has to uncover the identities of a femme fatale and a jewel thief and unravel the meaning of a deadly delivery. If she doesn’t, this noir mystery could turn Grimm fairy tale. Nocino Noir is book 9 in the Franki Amato Mysteries, but it can be read as a standalone story.
