Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the greatest witnessing tools is the daily life we live as we interact with our peers and family. At the age of thirteen, I accepted the Lord as my personal Savior in a small church in Elyria, Ohio. Never has there been a moment since that day that I did not love the Lord and want to remain faithful to him. Divorce and the loss of two children drew me to my knees, knowing that I needed God more during those times than ever. But my precious mother and father, Evialee and Walter Matney, taught me the ways of the Lord, living a life before me that even at the age of seventy-four, they are still with me. The devotions within this book include stories of my own from childhood and through adolescence, to raising my children and into my senior years. There are times that I fell to my knees, asking God for wisdom and knowledge, not knowing what to do. But intimate experiences with the Lord gave me the hope I needed to continue my journey of faith. I hope as you go through these 365 interpersonal devotions, you will encounter the love of God in a powerful new way. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless and keep you. Truly, the Lord is my Shepherd, and thats enuff.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat. Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat--if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie's core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.

Book excerpt: David in the Twenty-Third Psalm taught us that God is not some unknown God up in heaven sitting on His throne, but He is close, personal, and intimate. God did not introduce Himself to Moses as El Shaddai, the powerful God of the mountains, nor did He introduce Himself as Elohim, the mighty and majestic God of creation, but Yahweh the great "I am" He who will make things happen for you in the valley of your human failures, struggles, and adversities. God is not some unknown God up in heaven sitting on His throne, but He is close, personal, and intimate. He is the God who walks with us in our valley of need and makes things happen for us. He told Moses: "... I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows. And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians" God saw their circumstances, He heard their cries, and felt their sorrows. There is no problem so minute, so trivial and so insignificant that Christ does not see or hear our cries. He told Moses that He would come down and be with him. The promise that God made to Moses, Christ makes to us in our trying moments. If you have a problem that you can't solve, a burden you can't bear, a spouse you can't stand, a child you can't handle, a boss you can't forgive, take it to Jesus. If you have an addiction you can't break, a heart-ache you can't overcome, a mountain you can't climb, a sickness that the doctors can't heal, a dream crushed by adversity, hopes wiped out by disappointment, a pain that wont go away, a hunger that a steak just wont satisfy, take it to Jesus. Christ our good Shepherd promises: "My grace is enough; it's all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness" 2 Corinthians 12:9. NIV "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

Book excerpt: The bestselling guide to the healing wisdom of the Twenty-Third Psalm—from the beloved author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People. “A book worthy of attention from people of all faiths.” —The Dallas Morning News Rabbi Harold Kushner has found that the simple, beautiful verses of perhaps the most memorable and cherished chapter of the Bible—full of honesty and optimism—have an almost magical power to comfort and calm—and to change your life. The psalm does not pretend that life is ever easy, but it offers a masterful guide to living in the world with faith and courage. Drawing on over forty years of his own thinking, on other biblical scholars, and on history, Kushner gracefully demonstrates how this sustaining work can help us cope with every aspect of life, from mundane jealousies to the death of a loved one to unimaginable tragedies of global proportions.

Drawing from writers throughout church history—particularly St. Augustine, Richard Baxter, and C. S. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rob Morgan, bestselling author of Then My Soul Sings, explores the rich meaning behind the world’s best-known and most-loved poem—Psalm 23. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters… These are the opening lines to one of the most memorized, inspirational, and comforting passages in the Bible—and one of the greatest poems of all time. In six verses, it provides a microcosm of God’s grace. When anxiety robs us of sleep, our most powerful “tranquilizer” is Psalm 23. It’s a soul-soother. It appears in the middle of a trilogy of psalms dealing with our past, our present, and our future needs. In The Lord is My Shepherd, Morgan teaches Psalm 23 verse-by-verse, explaining its extraordinary power to change lives and ease our troubles. He shares its fascinating context and colorful background, as well as his own charming, real-life stories of herding sheep. You’ll find encouragement to enjoy the “green pastures” of life while becoming strengthened by the “dark valleys.” Furthermore, Morgan maintains that some of the Bible’s richest truths are summarized in these six simple verses of Psalm 23. In knowing the Good Shepherd, we have total resources for all our internal, external, and eternal needs. Through this clear explanation of the biblical text and great stories that illustrate the love and care of the shepherd, The Lord is My Shepherd will help you rediscover the joy, inspiration, and peace in the green pastures of this beloved psalm.

Book excerpt: What would it be like to live without fear? Join renowned philosopher Dallas Willard as he shares the biblically-backed secret to living with true contentment, peace, and security. In Life Without Lack, Dallas Willard revolutionizes our understanding of Psalm 23 by taking this comfortably familiar passage and revealing its extraordinary promises: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want...Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." Written with Willard's characteristic gentle wisdom, Life Without Lack helps you experience: God's comforting presence God's abundant generosity Peace and freedom from worry Based on a series of talks by the late author and edited by his friend Larry Burtoft and by his daughter, Rebecca Willard Heatley, Life Without Lack will forever change the way you experience the most well-known passage in all of Scripture. Praise for Life Without Lack: "Dallas Willard helps us to understand that the Twenty-Third Psalm is not meant as a nice sentiment or for kitschy decor, it is for the very thick of our lives, the very moment of crisis. Imagine what our personal lives, families, communities, and politics would look like if we rejected the frantic striving of our day, and instead embraced the life without lack offered to us in Jesus Christ. No one has helped me to imagine and enter into that life more than Dallas Willard. I recommend this book with great joy and hopeful expectation." --Michael Wear, bestselling author of Reclaiming Hope

Book excerpt: Who wants to be a sheep? The twenty-third Psalm begins, 'The Lord is my Shepherd.' While we often think of this phrase as a comforting and beautiful affirmation of God's love for us, we rarely stop to think of its implications. If God is our Shepherd, that makes us sheep. Mindless, passive, dependant animals that will follow anything that catches their attention. Stupid creatures that must be watched at all times lest they be a detriment to themselves. Yet that's how the Bible refers to God's people time and time again. If God is to be our Shepherd, then we need to be His sheep. We must surrender our stubborn wills to His direction, bow to his discipline, and acknowledge His sovereignty over all heaven and earth.Join Mark Tabb as he studies the life of God's sheep and encourages us to live each day surrendered to our Shepherd in Song of the Shepherd.
