Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tahirih Qurratu’l-‘Ayn, The Divine Female Spirit of the Age dawned upon the Earth in 1844 after thousands of years of rejection. She announced that She is the long awaited Mother Source, The Trumpet Blast, The Word of the Godhead, The Most Great Spirit that would bring the Great Reversal in which Humanity would no longer be separated from Source and the meek would inherit the Earth. The male-dominate Society rejected Her once again and called for Her Death. Prior to Her martyrdom She called out: “You can try and kill Me, but you cannot stop the emancipation of Women, nor can you kill the Spirit of the Godhead!” Thus, today Her Voice rings out again for those who have an ear! “Saffa’s book reveals a hidden Truth regarding the incarnation of the Godhead on Earth, and uncovers the constructed veils obscuring the Truth at the time that the new Spirit was expected by humankind. The author spells out the means by which knowledge of the Truth will set humanity on the promised transformational path for which it has long been waiting. She rips the veil off the premise by most religions that Messengerhood is only a bonding of a male God with a male Manifestation.” ~Ken Haley, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Book excerpt: In the 19th century, countless individuals believed a new Revelation was imminent. In Persia, the Báb fulfilled the prediction by several clerics of the appearance of the Promised Qa'im. Tahirih of Qazvin, a gifted teacher, was at the vanguard of spreading the Báb's teachings. She unceasingly proclaimed the Bábí Faith and brought a deeper understanding of its teachings to the rapidly growing numbers of its converts. Her vibrant poetry gave voice to her spiritual longing and passion, and its freshness reflected the vitality of the new spiritual teachings. She emerged as the most outspoken of the Baacute;biacute; leaders. The authorities responded by having her murdered in the dead of night. The memory of her life survives in her poems. At the same time, many Americans believed the Second Coming of Christ was imminent. Several churches and movements emerged, some founded by women. Among them were Ellen G. White, a theological thinker who shaped the beliefs of the Adventist movement, Sojourner Truth, who came up from slavery to electrify audiences with her salvation preaching, and Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Church of Christ Science; these women leaders were prefigured in the 18th century by 'Mother' Ann Lee, founder of the Shakers, and the long forgotten female 'exhorters'. The Calling by Hussein Ahdieh and Hillary Chapman describes Tahirih in a fresh, new manner, juxtaposing and interweaving her life and work with that of her American contemporaries women whose existence she was probably not aware of, but who shared with her a spiritual bond and vision of progress and justice.

Book excerpt: Tahirih's poems are well known among Persian Baha'is, but until now there has been no suitable translation of her work that would give English-speaking readers a sense of her genius. Now Amin Banani, Professor Emeritus at UCLA in Persian history and literature; Jascha Kessler, Professor of English at UCLA; and Anthony A. Lee, historian and award-winning poet, have teamed to produce this translation of her work. The poems are brilliant in emotional impact and prophetic in their themes. They should become familiar parts of Baha'i Feasts, Holy Day celebrations, and devotional gatherings. These poems are a monument to this remarkable woman.

Included is history from Baha'i sources: 'Abdu'l-Baha and Shoghi Effendi; the work of scholars in India and Pakistan, where Tahirih's work is well known; and essays by Western scholars, such as E. G. Browne, A.-L.-M. Nicolas (translated from French), Abbas Amanat, Farzaneh Milani, and others. Many of these are new research published in this volume for the first time."--Publisher's website.

Book excerpt: Tahirih, the remarkable poetess of nineteenth-century Persia, penned many poems that were either thought to be lost or remained untranslated. This outstanding volume contains a number of previously unpublished and largely unknown poems both in their original calligraphy and in English. Many of these poems relate to Tahirih's spiritual beliefs. She often refers to Adam, the first Prophet of God, and the Prophets of the past to reveal her insights into the process by which God empowers his messengers to educate humanity. It is through this process that the wish of Adam and all the Prophets of the past to witness the day when humanity will reach its full spiritual potential is fulfilled. Tahirih announces that day has now come.

And then the unexpected happens: Azadeh falls in love with a young Iranian man and decides to get married and start a family in Tehran. Suddenly, she finds herself navigating an altogether different side of Iranian life. As women are arrested for “immodest dress” and the authorities unleash a campaign of intimidation against journalists, Azadeh is forced to make the hard decision that her family’s future lies outside Iran. Powerful and poignant, Honeymoon in Tehran is the harrowing story of a young woman’s tenuous life in a country she thought she could change.

Book excerpt: The fascinating story of a pleasure-seeking Persian boy who became one of 'Abdu'l-Baha's leading English translators and united East and West in the first Persian-American Baha'i marriage. Here is the colourful story of Ali-Kuli Khan, the first to translate into English such important works as the 'Seven Valleys', the 'Kitab-i-Iqan', and the Glad-Tidings. Told by his daughter, herself a well-known author and translator, Khan's story is based on his memoirs and personal papers. Through them we are given a unique and detailed picture of life in Persia at the end of the century, complete with an explanation of that oft-met protocol 'ta'aruf'. We follow the young Khan, dressed as a dervish, on his adventurous walk to 'Akka and note his transformation from a frivolous youth to a skilled translator for 'Abdu'l-Baha. In his nearly two years as a member of 'Abdu'l-Baha's household, Khan both translated for those first groups of American pilgrims to visit the Holy Land and rendered 'Abdu'l-Baha's Tablets into English. In 1901 Khan was sent to America to assist Mirza Abu'l-Fadl and to translate the great teacher's book, The Baha'i Proofs, into English. It was in America that Khan met and fell in love with a Boston society girl, Florence Breed. Their Victorian romance unfolds in the delicate love-letters written by Florence to Khan. Their marriage, the first between a Persian and an American Baha'i, not only symbolized but portrayed the unity between East and West taught by the Baha'i Faith. 'Summon Up Remembrance' is peopled with such familiar figures as Mirza Abu'l-Fadl, Laura Barney, Edward and Lua Getsinger, Mary Hanford Ford and the Atabak. But this is a book dedicated to 'Abdu'l-Baha, and it is His wisdom and teaching that characterizes it. A unique feature is the inclusion of the Tablet of Cremation revealed by 'Abdu'l-Baha, here published for the first time in English in a new translation by the Research Department of the Universal House of Justice. The story continues in Arches of the Years.

Book excerpt: Of all the historical, religious and cultural events in the history of the United States, the arrival of 'Abdu'l-Bahá in 1912 was the most important one of all. Many people-from all facets of society-had the honor to meet Him, attend His talks, benefit from His wisdom and witness His benevolence and humility. Their encounter with 'Abdu'l-Bahá was life-altering: He touched the depths of their souls and awakened them spiritually. This re-telling of 'Abdu'l-Bahá's days in New York City is both inspiring and illuminating. It is intended to bring you closer to this unique figure in spiritual history, whose life will serve as a model of the true spiritual and ethical life for centuries to come.
