Book excerpt: The past two decades, and the beginning of the current, have been a period in which capital, the most powerful player on the world’s economic stage to an extent incomparably greater than ever before, explored the world in search of the best investment. Foreign Direct Investment has become a way of increasing capital efficiency and company growth. Except that today- in contrast to the previous period- it does not apply only to the capital belonging to the richest. The capital in developing countries is starting to “elbow its way” in the global economy. Foreign expansion of companies in developing countries is an increasingly important factor in building their international competitiveness and achieving success in the global market. Just as with transnational corporations in developed countries, it enables not only the reaping of greater benefits from the competitive advantages that have already been there, but also the building of new ones based on the use of tangible and intangible assets distributed around the world, including knowledge, skills and sources of information, not to mention the richness of cultural diversity. It is fair to say that companies in developing countries have found their path and follow it ever more boldly. However, global research centres have so far devoted little time to studying foreign investment among companies from developing countries. Increasing investment activity among companies in these countries constitutes a growing challenge to the research to be undertaken. The book presents research results of Polish companies investment activity abroad. The research was carried out by a research team atNicolausCopernicusUniversityinToruń,Poland. Studies currently being conducted are important not only for research purposes but also for their application in the real economy. Practical application of their results as well as the presentation of experience of the companies that have achieved success because if their capital expansion abroad may be important for the development of entrepreneurship in developing countries.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last 20 years of changes in Central and Eastern Europe had had positive effect on the investment attractiveness of the region and the way it is perceived by the potential foreign investors. Poland as the biggest country from CEE accounts for 28% of FDI in the region (as for 2008). In 2009 it was the only one European state with positive economic growth. Impressive, isn't it? Nevertheless the crisis affected us as well. The question today is: Can we still attract potential investors? Do we have any advantages over other countries? And also: can we learn from our mistakes - all in all we lost some of the battles for few major investments in the region. In order to answer those questions one has to approach the problem of investment attractiveness from theoretical point of view: What are the driving forces for investment? What are the reasons for choosing a specific investment location? Apart from answering these questions, this book provides for a wide range of market, institutional, international and financial determinants of foreign investment. Moreover it presents the analysis of given determinants in Poland in comparison with other Central and Eastern European countries.

Book excerpt: Foreign Direct Investment in Transitional Economies presents a detailed investigation into the recent changes in the patterns and determinants in inflows of FDI to transitional economies. The author re-evaluates conventional theories of FDI, and analyses the many changes taking place in the nature of international business, both in terms of the drives of the trans-border transactions, and the strategic orientation of the firms that engage in those transactions. This comparative investigation is based on original research detailing the experiences of FDI in the economies of China and Poland through case studies of over 200 multinationals, and takes into account the dynamic forces of globalization and their effects on FDI.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Written in a clear and straightforward style, and well grounded in succinct and pertinent analysis...It will prove a boon to students and practitioners alike as moves proceed towards European integration.' - British Book News This volume identifies and analyses the extent to which the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are likely to attract inward foreign direct investment (FDI) to the turn of the century. Although these countries have been growing recipients of FDI, Western multinationals remain cautious and are slow to commit large investment sums. The book covers the contextual and thematic aspects of FDI as well as empirical country studies (including the Commonwealth of Independent States, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia) which address the legal environment for FDI, its magnitude and motives and industrial breakdown. The final section discusses the potential for closer economic and political integration in Europe.
