This celebrated lady achieved so high a position in the comic walks of theatrical life, and was so famed for her personal beauty and exquisite taste in those matters of dress which are so dear to the female heart, that anything like a consecutive narrative of her career must be of general interest. Hitherto, all that has appeared in print, has been of such a disjointed and fragmentary, as well as limited, character, that it was exceedingly difficult to get anything like a clear idea of the origin, progress, and successful termination of her professional life; an effort has now been made, after considerable labour and research, to connect and arrange in chronological order, all attainable and trustworthy facts.
