Dole won the Republican nomination for President in 1996 and selected Jack Kemp as his running mate. The ticket lost the general election to incumbent President Bill Clinton and Vice-President Al Gore. Dole is currently the oldest living former U.S. Presidential candidate, ahead of Thurston Morton (born 1935), Walter Mondale (born 1928), and John McCain (born 1936).
