Some time after the death of his father the poet removed from Chiswick to Twickenham, where he spent the remainder of his life; to his friend J ervas, at that time in Ireland, he addressed a letter on the 12th of Dec. 1718 containing the following lines: At last the gods and fate have fixed me on the borders of the Thames in the districts of Richmond and Twickenham. It is here I have passed an entire year of my life without any fixed abode in London, or more than cpsting a transitory glan cc for a day or two at most in a month at the pomps of the town.
