Download or read book The Lent Factor written by Graham James and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-04 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human character is best described by telling stories about people. The Lent Factor describes forty very different people - one for each day of Lent - who have a special quality about them, and uses their stories to reflect on how faith and character are connected. A theme from each brief story is illuminated by reflection on a scene, passage or word from the Bible. The appropriateness of the use of a cross to mark out the 'X' factor within human beings becomes the more pertinent as the journey through Lent approaches Holy Week and Easter. The cast list includes Edith Cavell, Philip Toynbee (father of Polly), U.A. Fanthorpe, Dorothy Sayers, Charles Wesley, Rabbi Hugo Gryn, Julian of Norwich, Kathleen Ferrier, Eva Peron and many others from different backgrounds and diverse periods of history, some famous and some entirely unknown.
Book Synopsis Before the Face of God by : Hanneke Schaap-Jonker
Download or read book Before the Face of God written by Hanneke Schaap-Jonker and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2008 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All over the world, millions of people attend services every week, and most of them will hear sermons. What happens between the sermon and the listener? Does the sermon become meaningful to listeners? The present study in the fields of practical theology, homiletics, and psychology of religion combines quantitative and qualitative methods to offer an empirically-based approach to the study of preaching. Highlighting the psychological factors influencing how a sermon is heard, this study draws theoretical insight from the works of D.W. Winnicott, A.-M. Rizzuto and D. Bonhoeffer in its examination of the relationship between the meaning of the sermon and the hearer's God image, personality, and affective state.
Book Synopsis Research with Diverse Groups by : Antoinette Y. Farmer PhD
Download or read book Research with Diverse Groups written by Antoinette Y. Farmer PhD and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social work researchers often conduct research with groups that are diverse in terms of gender, sexual orientation, race or ethnic background, or age. Consequently, social work researchers must take great care to establish research-design equivalence at all phases of the research process (e.g., problem formulation, research design, sampling, measurement selection, data collection, and data analysis); otherwise, the results might reflect methodological flaws rather than true group differences and therefore lead to erroneous conclusions. This book introduces the methodological precautions that must be taken into consideration when conducting research with diverse groups. Multigroup Confirmatory Analysis (MG-CFA) using structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized to demonstrate how to assess seven types of measurement and structural equivalence that Milfont and Fischer (2010) have deemed important for studies with diverse samples. A hypothetical example was provided to illustrate how to design a study with good research-design equivalence. A case example was provided to demonstrate how to conduct an MG-CFA for each type of measurement and structural equivalence discussed. The Mplus syntax used to conduct the MG-CFA was provided. The results from the MG-CFA analyses were written up as they would be for publication.

Download or read book Pipe Flow written by Donald C. Rennels and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipe Flow provides the information required to design and analyze the piping systems needed to support a broad range of industrial operations, distribution systems, and power plants. Throughout the book, the authors demonstrate how to accurately predict and manage pressure loss while working with a variety of piping systems and piping components. The book draws together and reviews the growing body of experimental and theoretical research, including important loss coefficient data for a wide selection of piping components. Experimental test data and published formulas are examined, integrated and organized into broadly applicable equations. The results are also presented in straightforward tables and diagrams. Sample problems and their solution are provided throughout the book, demonstrating how core concepts are applied in practice. In addition, references and further reading sections enable the readers to explore all the topics in greater depth. With its clear explanations, Pipe Flow is recommended as a textbook for engineering students and as a reference for professional engineers who need to design, operate, and troubleshoot piping systems. The book employs the English gravitational system as well as the International System (or SI).

Book Synopsis Lantibiotics as Alternative Therapeutics by : Sanket Joshi
Download or read book Lantibiotics as Alternative Therapeutics written by Sanket Joshi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-02-17 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lantibiotics as Alternative Therapeutics explores alternative therapeutics, lantibiotics and other novel drugs. This book provides concrete information to readers regarding lantibiotics and various types of antimicrobial peptides with their mode of actions in treating various multidrug resistant organisms. It explains various techniques that are involved in analyzing antimicrobial peptides and their mode of actions. The development of antibiotic resistance has now reached a point of crisis where innovative methods and application of novel compounds and methods are required to prevent the spread of drug resistant infections. Novel compounds exhibit different modes of action to the currently used mechanism of therapeutics in order to combat against the resistant organisms. Lantibiotics hold considerable potential as a consequence of their unusual structure, unique mechanisms of action and their potency against multi-drug resistant bacteria. This book will be useful for pharmaceutical industry scientists and researchers in microbial and biomedical research as well as graduate and advanced students in microbiology, medical biotechnology, health, and pharmaceutical sciences. - Includes the biology, molecular interaction with target molecule, putative genes and analytical techniques to isolate and identify compounds - Incorporates relevant case studies to increase understanding - Focuses on recent trends on novel antimicrobial agents and antibiotic resistance research - Discusses new arena of diseases, apart from acute and chronic infections
