Episodes in the twelve visions include "The Trial of Peter Puzzle Cause," "A Comical Trial of a Piece of a Lawyer," "The Leather Strap Lawyer; His Plea and Sentence," "On Benevolence," "The Executioners or Sworn Appraisers" and "An Offer at a Reason Why Impressions in Sleep are Stronger Than Those Waking." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs. McKoy's love for equal justice and democracy motivated her to write this book. It is her desire that this book will serve as a source of enlightenment to the American people who are soaked and abused by the legal community so unmercifully. Too many people feel that they are in a stage of powerlessness to do anything about the corruption in the legal profession because of the unique power that lawyers have in our society. But as long as non-lawyers employ lawyers and non-lawyers are in the majority, there is hope. Because POWER can come from people like us united to reform the legal system to make it better serve the true interests of the American people. Consumer advocates for legal reforms can reform the legal system if they are united to do so. But as long as lawyers can soak the American Folk and police themselves the legal profession will continue to be corrupt with no end in sight.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the Levite at the gate and the judicial systems of our day is a long journey in courthouse government, but its basic structure remains the same - law, judge and process. Of the three, process is the most unstable - procedure and facts. Of the two, facts are the most intractable. While most of the law in books may seem to center about abstract theories, doctrines, princi ples, and rules, the truth is that most of it is designed in some way to escape the painful examination of the facts which bring parties in a particular case to court. Frequently the emphasis is on the rule of law as it is with respect to the negotiable instru ment which forbids inquiry behind its face; sometimes the empha sis is on men as in the case of the wide discretion given a judge or administrator; sometimes on the process, as in pleading to a refined issue, summary judgment, pre-trial conference, or jury trial designed to impose the dirty work of fact finding on laymen. The minds of the men of law never cease to labor at im proving process in the hope that some less painful, more trustworthy and if possible automatic method can be found to lay open or force litigants to disclose what lies inside their quarrel, so that law can be administered with dispatch and de cisiveness in the hope that truth and justice will be served.
Book Synopsis Law Reform in Early Modern England by : Barbara J Shapiro
Download or read book Law Reform in Early Modern England written by Barbara J Shapiro and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an illuminating commentary of law reform in the early modern era (1500–1740) and views the moves to improve law and legal institutions in the context of changing political and governmental environments. Taking a fresh look at law reform over several centuries, it explores the efforts of the king and parliament, and the body of literature supporting law reform that emerged with the growth of print media, to assess the place of the well-known attempts of the revolutionary era in the context of earlier and later movements. Law reform is seen as a long term concern and a longer time frame is essential to understand the 1640–1660 reform measures. The book considers two law reform movements: the moderate movement which had a lengthy history and whose chief supporters were the governmental and parliamentary elites, and which focused on improving existing law and legal institutions, and the radical reform movement, which was concentrated in the revolutionary decades and which sought to overthrow the common law, the legal profession and the existing system of courts. Informed by attention to the institutional difficulties in completing legislation, this highlights the need to examine particular parliaments. Although lawyers have often been seen as the chief obstacles to law reform, this book emphasises their contributions – particularly their role in legislation and in reforming the corpus of legal materials – and highlights the previously ignored reform efforts of Lord Chancellors.
