The Kingdom of Artesia is a story of two twin sisters; Princess Lightia and Princess Darkia, and their adventures in the colourful Kingdom. It is a story about their pursuit of purpose in life; to find the ‘Book of Illumination’ and the 'Box of Trine’. Their pursuit for the crown took them beyond the walls of their palatial home. The journey was tough but it taught them valuable life lessons. The value of right choices, the role of friends, the meaning of relations and what all it takes to get crowned! Explore the Kingdom of Artesia with young princesses and get introduced to the weird creatures of Amazing Arthropodia. Venture into the Valley of Dead Colours, territory of Terra Toxica and Nova Lapida to meet Cercetie and Vishilia. Slip silently with Darkia to experience the ascent on the Half Hanging Bridge and meet the mysterious prince. Untangle yourself from the web of stories to enter the Grotto of Spinners. Book excerpt: A mysterious stranger (calling himself the "Selector") approaches two best friends, one a second-born prince and the other a pauper, with an improbable if not laughable offer: to become the next co-kings of the distant land of Artesia. After some persuasion, they overcome their families' objections and return with him only to find their new kingdom in ruin. They learn over time of the recent history and true nature of its citizens, the outcasts from the traditional fantasy characters: instead of the Elves who amass in a forest, Artesia has mysterious Sprites; vicious Fairies routinely torment visitors to their marsh, including their flightless relatives, the Brownies; Horsemen with the bodies of donkeys are subject to ridicule from their thoroughbred-like Centaur cousins; so too are the Satyrs, who are born with large feet instead of the hooves of the Fauns, and the Rollies, rejected by the Dwarfs; Giants live nearby, but Artesia has Cyclopes who are generally subject to genocide; Humans reside only in Artesia, rejected outright by most of the other races. In this first installment of books that are serial in nature, bigotry, murder, betrayal, and conflicting social structures contend with the ideals of honor and brotherhood in the great social experiment of Artesia, a kingdom founded by the still present Sorcerer Myrddin.

Book excerpt: The many mysteries of the recent past begin to unfold, but the Sorcerer warns his audience that he will present truths that they may be unprepared to hear: twin princess daughters knew that they would at last know the identity of the treacherous murderer of their father, one of the two prior kings of Artesia; a trusted Kings' Advisor wondered how the kingdom that he loved had spiraled into such a state of disorder in the three short years he had been gone as Selector of the new Kings; a storied Quartermaine and now Kings' Captain wanted to know how Goblins penetrated the kingdom's defenses, killed his best friend, and brought down the glory of the land's premier castle; an Elfin crown prince mistakenly thought that the warning was intended for the others in the room; two reunited childhood friends, once torn apart by a mysterious long-past episode, were about to have the old wound reopened wider and deeper than the original scared gash; and two young kings sat in awe as they faced the prodigious truth of the reign they had recently inherited. This third installment of the Artesian Serial provides greater understanding of the relationships between the two principle allies of the region, the Elves and Artesia, as well as the downfall of the prior kings.

Book excerpt: With improving conditions in the kingdom, the new Kings still find themselves estranged from the powerful Sorcerer Myrddin. While perhaps no one could have stopped the abduction and possible murder of his only daughter, the lack of any attempt on the part of Artesia has caused a chasm between the founder and descendents of the once great kingdom. Though only three of the four Shieldlets remain in the possession of the new Kings-a gift provided at great personal cost by Myrddin to protect their land-the only chance for a rescue means using that same power outside the borders, leaving the land even further exposed. Even still, a traitor remains in their midst, guilty of murdering a prior king and no doubt still working to subvert the new dual monarchy, but the Sorcerer's daughter may be able to reveal the horrible truth. In the midst of cultural and political upheaval, two young men must also face personal challenges: old family wounds resurface for an often belittled and ignored former prince as he refuses to accept similar relationships in his new kingdom, just as a pauper must take a giant leap and establish his footing as a co-ruler. For the sake of honor and as partial repayment for years of benevolent care, the kingdom must risk everything for the sake of a few; the young Kings must unite the many races of their new kingdom and blend the various strengths of all to achieve a nearly impossible goal: rescue the Sorcerer's daughter.

Book excerpt: Draftsmen can't fight dragons. Then again, that's usually no problem - they generally don't have to. But Lafayette O'Leary does. When an accidental overdose of self-hypnosis wrenches him out of the dull (but safe) Mrs. MacGlint's Clean Rooms and Board and deposits him in the feudal, bedragoned world of Artesia, it takes him a little while to catch on, even with the attentions of the beautiful Princess Adoranne. Then he decides that he likes this new life of his - except for the part where he's supposed to get killed...

Book excerpt: Action, horror, politics, and sensuality combine in this DEBUT EPIC FANTASY novel for fans of George R. R. Martin and Michael J. Sullivan, set in the world of the Eisner Award-nominated Artesia comic books. To find the Sword, unearth the Barrow. To unearth the Barrow, follow the Map. When a small crew of scoundrels, would-be heroes, deviants, and ruffians discover a map that they believe will lead them to a fabled sword buried in the barrow of a long-dead wizard, they think they've struck it rich. But their hopes are dashed when the map turns out to be cursed and then is destroyed in a magical ritual. The loss of the map leaves them dreaming of what might have been, until they rediscover the map in a most unusual and unexpected place. Stjepan Black-Heart, suspected murderer and renegade royal cartographer; Erim, a young woman masquerading as a man; Gilgwyr, brothel owner extraordinaire; Leigh, an exiled magus under an ignominious cloud; Godewyn Red-Hand, mercenary and troublemaker; Arduin Orwain, scion of a noble family brought low by scandal; and Arduin's sister Annwyn, the beautiful cause of that scandal: together they form a cross section of the Middle Kingdoms of the Known World, united by accident and dark design, on a quest that will either get them all in the history books...or get them all killed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Credited on its first title page to William Shakespeare and William Rowley, The Birth of Merlin continues to provoke speculation about its place in the Shakespeare 'Apocrypha'. The play is an imaginative re-working of the story of Merlin the Magician and his part in the struggle against the Saxon invasion of Britain. It contains not only scenes of love, war, and court politics, but a devil, a clown, and an unusual number of spectacular stage effects. This edition seeks to provide contexts for the play's diverse elements (chronicle history, romance, spectacle, and comedy), and considers its relationships with a wide variety of texts from Geoffrey of Monmouth and the English prose Brut to Shakespeare's Henry VIII.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume IX is a continuation of the journey of the Maldonado family to the Kingdom of New Mexico. It documents the Maldonado descendants of Hernn Martn Baena and his wife Catalina Garca. This couple is connected to New Mexico through the marriage of their grandson Diego de Vera to Mara de Abendao, granddaughter of Juan Lpez Holgun and Catalina de Villanueva, founders of the Kingdom of New Mexico. From this marriage and the marriages of their great-granddaughters Mara Ortiz de Vera and Petronila de Vera (Salas), Don Hernn and Doa Catalina became the ancestors of leading New Mexicans in later generations. This volume contains not only their direct line of descent but also cousins, uncles, aunts, and in-laws. The Maldonado database has more than 5,800 names, with many of them represented here. The time period is generally from 1598 through the nineteenth century for most names, though the direct line continues to the present. Hernn Martn Baena is the ancestor of many people living in New Mexico today. In this volume his other descendants can trace their connections to cousins from this extended Maldonado family. Hernn Martn Baena and Catalina Garca are my twelfth great-grandparents.

As Artesia and her captains seek to join the northern army led by the High King's marshal, the Grand Duke Owen Lis Red, they are confronted with the myriad dangers and distractions of life on campaign. They encounter the Thessid enemy for the first time, meet and hire mercenaries from distant lands, and learn of the Empire's terrifying allies, the Isliklids, who heretically claim descent from Islik the Divine King. And through it all, Artesia is plagued by dreams and haunted by ghosts, as she ponders the choices she has made, and those she hasn't…
