And now she faces an uncomfortable truth. She wants her twin sister Libby's enviable life. Libby’s closest friend Jess Dekic has been around the Hunter family for so long she might as well be blood. But when she is betrayed by those she loves most, it reveals how tenuous her world is… For Karen Hunter, her children are a double-edged sword of pain and pride. She’s always tried to guide her girls through life’s pitfalls, but how do you protect your children when they’re adults? As the family implodes, the fallout for these four women will be inescapable… Bestselling Australian author Fiona Lowe wields a deft hand in creating utterly addictive storytelling that will have you questioning your own perceptions of what family is.

Book Synopsis I Just Wanted to Save My Family by : Stéphan Pélissier
Download or read book I Just Wanted to Save My Family written by Stéphan Pélissier and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2021-01-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The timely, powerful memoir of a man unjustly charged with a crime for helping his relatives, refugees from Syria. For trying to save his in-laws, who were fleeing certain death in Syria, Stéphan Pélissier was threatened with fifteen years in prison by the Greek justice system, which accused him of human smuggling. His crime? Having gone to search for the parents, brother, and sister of his wife, Zéna, in Greece rather than leaving them to undertake a treacherous journey by boat to Italy. Their joy on finding each other quickly turned into a nightmare: Pélissier was arrested as a result of a missing car registration and thrown into prison. Although his relatives were ultimately able to seek asylum—legally—in France, Pélissier had to fight to prove his innocence, and to uphold the values of common humanity and solidarity in which he so strongly believes. I Just Wanted to Save My Family offers a heartrending window into the lives of those displaced by the Syrian civil war and a scathing critique of the often absurd, unfeeling bureaucracies that determine their fates.

Book Synopsis In Search of Just Families by : Chhanda Gupta
Download or read book In Search of Just Families written by Chhanda Gupta and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores two contemporary combative views regarding the search for just families. These views arise from the conundrum of the family being seen as a supportive, nurturing “haven” versus a grievously unjust, harmful institution that violates the rights and freedoms of any individual family member. Triggered by anti-family movements, which have been inspired by the ideas of some theorists and writers, the book addresses the question: Is family destined to wither away? It challenges the radical idea that the solution to the problem of unjust families is their complete replacement by purportedly just anti-familial alternatives. Chhanda Gupta advances a distinct reformist and reconciliatory view that the expulsion of either side of the family-anti-family binary is not the answer. She seeks to syncretize the seemingly irreconcilable ideas propagated through that philosophical binary. Furthermore, she urges that the search for just families must find its answer in clarifying how the term “just” applies to the characters, behaviors, and attitudes of people who comprise actual families. The search is not for a perfectly just society or polity, or even for a perfectly just family. Instead it is a search for ways to redress the remediable injustices that occur in families, in order to benefit and uplift individuals and families and the societies in which they live.
