The style of the work as a composition is very plain and easy in con struction, but abounding in an endless variety of diction, couched in the most choice and appropriate terms. The sentences are short, and much in the style of the Bible. Even the prose is in rhythm throughout, continuing uninterrupted but by a change of termination, according to the powers of the author, or to the re dundancy of expressions with the same sound. Thus with short rhythmical periods of various lengths, the author proceeds for five or six lines to the end of his sub ect, and then commences other matter with a difl'erent rhyme.' he stry put into the mouth of the hero and other personages, has t e charm of a more elevated style; and the wider range for the imagination has been eagerly seized by the poet. Infinite] more difficult in its construction, it is still natural, and devoid 0 those conceits and absurdities that abound in most Asiatic compositions. The heroic, the complimentary, the laudatory, the amatory, the ludicrous, the 'ovial, the elegiac, are all combined in the same profusion - even the pastoral, so rare in oriental poetry, is not altogether wanting. Although union there no doubt is, as to the essentials to salvation, in which all true Christians well may, for it is their peculiarly high privilege, herein to agree; yet, let it be remem bered that lecturing on 'the catechism must not be omitted for the sake of union. You are more likely to make churchmen without such unions, which, according to the opinion of many, tend to the injury and ultimate subversion of primitive and evangelical unity of order; but though others are not quite so decid. Ed on this point, yet prudence dictates to them the adoption of a practice, should it even be found better than can be proved to arise either from Sunday school unions, Bible societies, or any other of the variety of promiscuous so cieties or associations now in operation. Children, I say, that are instructed in the church catechism when young, will not easily be induced to swerve in their principles, nor to follow or be led by any other. Father and mother, sisters and brothers, servants in-doors and out-of-doors, are unanimous in the opinion that no such happy and united a household is to be found elsewhere on the face of the earth. They love each other, and admire each other, and (making due allowance for human infirmities) are perfectly contented with the manner in which each member of the family fulfils his or her duties to the remainder of those who live in the same house. Moreover, they consider that this very house, with all its appurtenances, is absolutely unrivalled in suitability to the wishes and needs of its inmates. It is warm, comfortable, airy, healthy, handsome, well-furnished, gracefully decorated, and neither too big nor too little. There is plenty to eat and drink, of a wholesome and nutritious kind, and suited to the different constitutions of the different members of the family. The gardens and grounds are delightful; and, in fact, on the whole, the household looks upon itself as favoured by Divine Providence in a wonderful degree, is never tired of thanking God for its possessions, and is always wishing that every body else was equally well off.
