Order your copy today and equip yourself with the knowledge to navigate the evolving economic landscape shaped by Brexit. The Referendum in 2016 which led to the Brexit was a game-changing event for both politics and the economy in Great Britain and the European Union. For the first time ever in history, a country decided to leave the EU. From the beginning it was clear that this decision would have both political and economic consequences. The UK was the second-largest economy in the EU and a very important location for the financial sector. The city of London is one of the largest business areas in total Europe. Before the referendum in 2016, many experts were concerned about the consequences of a “leave”-vote. George Osborne, the british minister of finance warned that the Brexit will cost every household 4300 pounds per year. According to the financial times, the GDP in the year 2030 would be six percent lower if they leave the European union, under the condition of a trade agreement between the two partners. This Bachelor ́s thesis will focus on the impact of Brexit on the foreign direct investment in the UK and the consequences for example on the job market. The first part will be the summary of the working paper. “The Influence of Brexit on the Foreign direct Investment Projects and Inflows in the United Kingdom”, that was written by Mihaela Simionescu and was provided in cooperation with the Global labour Organization (GLO).

This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 2.1, Sheffield Hallam University, language: English, abstract: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been a complex topic, however its fundamental features have enabled it to shape the world we live in and is the backbone of many countries who would not survive without it. Being part of the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom (UK) was cocooned in a union full of rules and regulations that did not please its residents. The decision to leave the EU was taken and therefore these rules and regulations are not applicable and this in turn will drastically affect FDI. Despite being one of the world’s greatest powerhouse, Brexit offers a great threat to its industries that have had solid foundations within the EU as well as the workforce it holds as the UK holds over 3 million EU nationals. The UK offers an abundance of incentives for investors although these have been affected by 3 the UK’s top industries, Banking and Finance, Oil and Gas and Manufacturing with many companies in these industries agreeing that Brexit will have a negative impact on their business practices even with the government trying to get the best Brexit deal. This dissertation will critically analyse the literature on FDI and how the host country determinates will be used in order to analyse their affect and how it would differ after Brexit. The UK’s attractiveness for FDI was evident in the results that were obtained, which provided a similar theme to variables within the host country determinates that in turn allowed for recommendations to be made on the industries and how future practices could be handled.

This book was released on 2019-12-18 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign direct investment (FDI) has grown considerably worldwide in recent decades, alongside the no-less considerable development of international ‘supply chains’. In the European Union (EU), stock held by foreign investors exceeds EUR 6 billion, while stock held in the rest of the world by EU investors exceeds EUR 7 billion. This important book analyses the current and proposed regimes of FDI screening in the EU, highlighting mechanisms designed to enhance FDI’s advantages and minimize its drawbacks. Leading practitioners, policymakers and academics discuss the 2017 European Commission proposal on FDI screening and its resulting Regulation, focusing on such issues and topics as the following: the economics of FDI screening; rising protectionism versus further investment liberalization; how the EU framework connects with WTO rules; the dangers of foreign investment in sectors essential to public order and security; how the EU regulatory layer interacts with FDI screening at Member State level; and perceived lacunae in the way the EU addresses incoming FDI. Two detailed examples of how FDI screening works in practice are included, along with a comparative view of FDI screening in the United States. Contributions commenting specifically on the EU Regulation deal with the process of adopting the Regulation and the impact of opposing views, and how the Regulation aligns with EU policy in the areas of trade, investment and competition. Companies engaged in FDI or financial services will appreciate the detailed analysis of issues raised by this new EU policy instrument. Practitioners active in competition law, particularly M&A, will welcome this clear commentary and analysis of a crucial component of EU policy in the related areas of trade and investment, and policymakers will be encouraged to consider whether further regulatory changes are called for.

Book excerpt: The decision of the United Kingdom not to adopt the common European currency can be understood as a policy intervention in a single country within the European Union. The aim of this article is to analyse the consequences of this decision on the foreign direct investment received by this country. This is done by the application of a synthetic control method designed for policy evaluation. As a result, evidence of a significant cost in terms of inward foreign direct investment from the United States is obtained.

Book excerpt: The Treaty of Lisbon (2009) has brought foreign direct investment (FDI) within the scope of the European Union's common commercial policy (CCP). In light of this development, this book analyses the internal and external dimension of EU law and policy in the field of FDI. It takes four perspectives: (i) the operation of the internal market mechanism to direct investment; (ii) the implications of the Lisbon amendments to the CCP under Article 207 TFEU for the Union's competence and practice in the field of FDI; (iii) the interaction between EU law and Member States' bilateral investment treaties (BITs) with third countries; (iv) the interplay between EU law and BITs that are currently in force between two Member States (intra-EU BITs). The book focuses on the extent to which the European Union operates as a Single Market for EU and non-EU investors. In doing so, it analyses the EU and international regulatory framework on the admission, treatment and protection of FDI within, to and from the Single European Market. It uses close jurisprudential analysis and examines the context, purpose and evolution of EU legal integration in the field of FDI. It thereby traces the principles underlying the European international economic order in the field of FDI.
