This book was released on 2010 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study was to focus on the devastating long term effects of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). The emotional trauma experienced by women survivors of CSA can have long-lasting negative effects extending into adulthood. A growing number of Americans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are those who have experienced CSA. An extensive literature was performed to investigate the long term effects of this type of abuse and the treatment interventions that may be helpful to this population of women. Group therapy was shown to have a positive impact on women who have experienced CSA. A search was conducted to locate an appropriate funder for therapy groups for women survivors of CSA experiencing symptoms of PTSD. The actual submission and funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
Book Synopsis A Long-term Grief Counseling Group for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse by : Abbie Cohen
Download or read book A Long-term Grief Counseling Group for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse written by Abbie Cohen and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of the project was to propose a long-term person-centered grief counseling group addressing on-going psychological issues and providing counseling for adult women who were sexually abused as children. The literature has indicated that child abuse survivors can benefit from supportive group counseling and the context of common experience aids in this process. The proposed program recognizes the need to provide a trusting environment to help remove the secrecy and feelings of shame and self-blame. A group format assists in decreasing isolation and stigma while increasing self-esteem and self-worth. The integration of a nondirective approach and grief counseling aims to create a restorative and therapeutic community in which to assist in the development of social skills and healthy and trusting relationships. The group is structured with the intent for survivors to share their experiences, heal from their traumas, and find the tools to move forward into happier, healthier, and better functioning lives. " -- Abstract, p. 1.

Download or read book A Psychodynamic Group for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse written by Xochitl Elias and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Thousands of children every year become victims of childhood sexual abuse. There are many complex factors that contribute to the traumatic experience of childhood sexual abuse. For example, these factors include the relationship between the victim and perpetrator; disclosure of the abuse; and short- and long-term relational and psychological consequences. More often than not, children will carry this type of trauma into adulthood. Given that, this project proposes psychodynamic group therapy as a form of treatment to best offer cognitive insight into repressed traumatic experiences. This project also proposes that adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse who are willing to explore deeply repressed material within a group setting will find improvement in relational and interpersonal functioning."--Abstract, p. 1.

Download or read book A Decade in Review written by Julie M. Trana and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review summarizes and evaluates research published from 1999-2008 studying the efficacy of group psychotherapy for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). Several studies compared group psychotherapy and individual psychotherapy. Several different populations were examined, including individuals with chronic mental illness, HIV/AIDS, low socioeconomic status, and inmates. Most studies were conducted on an outpatient basis, while some examined the use of groups for inpatient populations. While most groups focused on treating female survivors, some groups worked with male survivors as well. Overall, group psychotherapy was effective in symptom reduction, regardless of theoretical orientation or treatment duration. Future research is needed with several populations, specifically males and individuals with chronic mental illness or severe symptom presentation.

Book Synopsis Group Art Therapy with Survivors by : Krista Mouck
Download or read book Group Art Therapy with Survivors written by Krista Mouck and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intention of this research was to explore how therapeutic interventions found in the literature can be adapted and used in a closed, long-term art therapy group program for adult women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. The existing literature is examined with a focus on perspectives of trauma-informed therapy, art therapy with sexual abuse survivors, and group therapy with survivors. Therapeutic issues and techniques in these paradigms will be explored, culminating into a proposed structure for a twenty-four session art therapy group. Guidelines will be proposed for session objectives and content based on suggestions made in the literature review. The suggested art therapy interventions will be conceptualized and described through a framework for the beginning, middle or end phases of the group process. The paper will then conclude with a discussion of my own recommendations regarding the proposed model based on my own clinical experience in leading an art therapy group specifically for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Download or read book Naming the Shadows written by Susan Roth and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although numerous books have been written about childhood incest and trauma, until now none of them has combined the best of what scientific psychology has to offer with detailed representation and narrative about the ways that childhood sexual trauma within the family context affects the lives of adult survivors. Naming the Shadows is the first book to offer practitioners and students-in-training an in-depth exploration of a trauma-focused approach to individual and group psychotherapy that respects scientific rules of evidence and at the same time attempts to honor the complexity and subjectivity of an individual survivor's experience. Roth and Batson, psychologist and psychiatrist, respectively, with many years of expertise in treating survivors of sexual trauma, explain how targets of treatment are conceptualized as identity and relational issues that derive from an enduring adaptation to childhood trauma. The authors believe that, at its best, psychotherapy provides a therapeutic social context in which survivors can achieve a true understanding of their adaptation and gain self-knowledge of the meaning and enduring influence of traumatic childhood experience. Drawing on the authors' own innovative research, on the widespread experience of colleagues, and on vivid dialogue from survivors themselves, Naming the Shadows has important implications for our understanding of the process of coping with childhood sexual abuse.
