Download or read book A Pioneer Church in the Oconee Territory written by Billy Lavender and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-07 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this church shall be as revealed in the New Testament, to win people to faith in Jesus Christ and commit them actively to the church, to help them to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ that increasingly they may know and do His will, and to work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common task of building the kingdom of God. A Pioneer Church in the Oconee Territory will take you on a journey from the early settlement of Mannakin Town, Virginia, to the Scull Shoals Community on the east bank of the Oconee River in northern Georgia. This journey was actually made by the early ancestors of the Antioch Christian Church during the Oconee Indian Wars and at the beginning of the American Restoration Movement. Today Antioch Christian Church is still the location of Scull Shoals voting precinct. Anyone who loves American history, genealogy, and has an interest in the early association between church and state will find A Pioneer Church in the Oconee Territory an invaluable reference. It contains facts of "the way it was" as far back as 1793 and the way life in America transpired within rural Georgia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The promise of religious freedom compelled many European men and women to undertake the arduous journey to the New World. The church was a crucial part of the first communities established, serving as meeting place, school, and even as makeshift hospital. Most important, the church was a place where people were free to worship as they pleased. Based on the history of a real church in Brickerville, Pennsylvania, Pioneer Church is the story of one of the first American churches and the community that built it in the 1700's. Accessible text and striking art give young readers a glimpse of Americana in a time when freedom of religion was not taken for granted.
Book Synopsis A Vision of the Possible by : Daniel Sinclair
Download or read book A Vision of the Possible written by Daniel Sinclair and published by Biblica. This book was released on 2006-03 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have long been aware of the challenge of reaching the unreached peoples of the world. For many this seemed a daunting and almost impossible task. However, with a clear biblical model of church planting, which works in divergent cultural settings, it seems that this may in fact be possible. In A Vision of the Possible, Daniel Sinclair thoroughly covers practical whys and how-to's concerning pioneer church planting among unreached people groups, with applicable discussions from Scripture along the way. Its emphases include resistant environments and church planting in teams. It also includes the newly revised seven Pioneer Church Planting Phases which is widely used by mission agencies working among unreached peoples. Those on the field, and those in preparation, including those in Bible schools and seminaries, will find this book immensely practical. Senders on the homefront will also find it invaluable, as they seek to understand the biblical and concrete issues the friends they support grapple with on a daily basis.

Download or read book Tale of a Pioneer Church (Classic Reprint) written by Peter Vogel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tale of a Pioneer Church All history is alie, said Sir Robert Walpole; and Landor insists that no history is ever true. But so far as, under the circumstances, lay in my power I have sought, in the following pages, to give the lie to both of these lies. I prefer to believe with Kossuth that history is the revelation of Providence; and with Shenstone, A history will live, though written ever so indifferently. And why should not this be true of the following pages, since every character in them is either a hero or heroine If for no other reason, then at least on Massillon's principle: Every Christian is born great because he is born for heaven. It has been said that history is philosophy teach ing by example. If so, there is nothing local in the following pages, but rather a universal lesson for the benefit of all. Book Synopsis The Pioneer Church by : Montgomery Schuyler
Download or read book The Pioneer Church written by Montgomery Schuyler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-03 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pioneer Church: Or the Story of a New Parish in the West Many of the incidents recorded are founded upon facts within his own knowledge, and he has written with the aid Of some twenty years' experience in western life. It is his thorough conviction, that the great want Of the Church is not so much more missionaries, but more working laymen, who, like Mr. Yates, will not forget Christ and His Church in the eager strife after money and lands; but, seeking first the kingdom Of God and His righteousness, will begin their work for Him when they are planning for themselves. The story Of Grace Church, Arlington, might be repeated in hundreds of villages throughout the Valley Of the Mississippi, would the pioneer Churchmen, appreciating their responsibilities, seize each favorable Opportunity and act with promptness and vigor, instead Of casting blame for the neglect, upon the want Of a missionary at the right time. Grace Church, Kirkwood, the most flourishing country parish in the Diocese Of Missouri, was be gun within the last ten years by lay services in a pri vate parlor; and a tasteful stone church was built, and a class Of fifteen prepared for Confirmation, be fore a Rector had been called. Book Synopsis Pioneer Churches of Wisconsin by : Cooney Cooney
Download or read book Pioneer Churches of Wisconsin written by Cooney Cooney and published by . This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All across Wisconsin there are small carefully preserved churches, which were built by the first immigrants to the state and maintained by dedicated individuals, families, historical societies, and cemetery associations who have a long history with the building. It is often the case that the caretaker?s great grandfather built the original church and most of their family has been married, baptized, and buried from the building. These caretakers are determined to keep the roof on the building and to honor the heritage as long as feasible. Many of these churches were the first of their respective denomination and in a number of cases the last remnant of that faith tradition. While some of these locations have national historic status, and some are recognized by their counties historical societies, many are without any formal recognition and have little or no web presence. Each church offers insight into the faith traditions of generations past, as well the role of the church in the Wisconsin immigrant experience.Since 2008, the author has visited a total of 162 locations, sometimes multiple times, in order to document their history, photograph both the exterior and interior and record each locations unique story. Pioneer Churches of Wisconsin includes 113 churches representing 32 different faith traditions located in 44 Wisconsin counties.
