This series of sixty short devotionals is designed to be used by individuals and groups to nurture their faith while enjoying nature and the hiking experience. Dr. Paulson used to conduct COPE Wilderness Workshops in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Now, a bit older and wiser, he leads the Heavenly Hiking Fellowship into the Santa Monica Mountains for New Hope Lutheran Church in Agoura Hills, CA. Doing so has once again allowed him to fall in love with hiking as an exercise and a way to draw closer to God and his fellow hikers. There is no better place than an open-air cathedral of trees and blue skies to invite God's presence into your day. Take this devotional with you whether alone or with other believers. Take a moment to read a devotion and to ask for prayer requests. Spend time in quiet meditation after listening for God's words for you today. Take time to pray and draw closer to your Lord. Whatever you take to the hills, never forget to take God along on your hike. Return to this reader-friendly devotional over and over again to find new ways to make your hiking a growth in grace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rich hiker's guide to walking with God We are all spiritual hikers on a journey towards the Kingdom of God. And we are rich. This inspiring and informative guide starts by looking at the basic attitude and approach we are to have in our walk with God, and goes on to answer such questions as: where, why and how we are to walk, and takes a look at some of the various walking styles we may adopt at different stages of our lives. It also examines a number of pitfalls and potholes we can fall into, and provides some guidelines for spiritual foot care. In this very readable and entertaining guide, Paul Krautmann weaves in some of his own personal experiences and observations, culled from his adventures as church pastor in South America and the Caribbean, and his present work with World Vision in Australia. Having travelled and survived the rocky road from cultish legalism to grace and truth in Jesus Christ, Worldwide Church of God minister Paul Krautmann has learned much about walking with God. Born in England, he trained as a librarian, then worked for two years in Guyana at the National Library as a Voluntary Service Overseas volunteer. During that time, through the ministry of Herbert W. Armstrong, Paul surrendered his life to God, and in 1972 entered Ambassador College, graduating in 1975. He returned to Guyana to work at the National Library, and also to take care of the fledgling church there. He served as full time pastor from 1978 to 1989 when he was transferred to the Caribbean to pastor churches in Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Dominica. In 1999 Paul and his Guyanese wife Unita moved to Perth, Western Australia. They have three children: Emil, Lorna and Paul.

Book excerpt: Do you feel like God is angry at you? Or at least disappointed? Our view of God shapes our minds, behavior, and relationships. What happens when we view God as a furious, frustrated deity? What changes when we glimpse a God who looks like Jesus? Building upon personal experience, biblical study, and recent discoveries in neuroscience, pastor and ministry coach Colin McCartney warns of the dangers of viewing God as a judgmental, angry dictator. Such a negative view of God poisons the mind and produces alienation from God and others. In its place, McCartney lays out a strong case, rooted in Scripture, for a more accurate image of a God that is Love. Healing from distorted images of God is one of the primary tasks of the maturing Christian, and McCartney gently leads readers on this healing journey. He also refuses to shy away from difficult topics as God’s wrath, hell as eternal punishment, and violent depictions of God in the Bible. By sharing the beliefs of the early church fathers and mothers and pointing to a Christ-centered hermeneutic, McCartney inspires readers with the truth of a God who is extremely involved and deeply in love with every one of us. What if the boundless love that we see in Jesus Christ isn’t just one of many traits of God? What if that infinite, absolute love is, well, everything?
