Data was compiled from census records, will records, family files, church and cemetery records, and published books and records from the Montgomery County Historical Society library. Chapter One provides information from the early years in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery and Prince George's Counties to establish background lineage and interrelationships. Chapter Two begins with Henry Hawkins and his nine children from two marriages. His first wife was Eleanor Hawkins; his second was Elizabeth Wynn Hawkins. Each subsequent chapter covers his descendants: John Hawkins (1738), Susannah Hawkins (1716), Thomas Hawkins (1817), Benjamin Hawkins (1801) and Mary Ellen Hawkins (1830). The final chapter covers miscellaneous Hawkins family members not connected to the main body of families discussed in earlier chapters. As in previous volumes, Mr. Hurley provides an extensive bibliography and a full name index, a boon to any serious researcher of Hawkins family history.

Book excerpt: David F. Henry, son of David and Anna Patterson Henry, was born 22 May 1836 in Pittsburgh. He married Annie Elenore Irvin, daughter of William A. and Ann Irvin, 19 September 1857. After their marriage they made their home in St. Anthony's Falls, Minnesota. The Henry's lived in several Minnesota locations before finally returning to Pittsburgh. In 1722 David F. Henry's ancestor, Robert Henry and his wife Mary emigrated from Scotland to America and settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. During the same year, at Easton, Pa., a son was born to the couple who was named Robert. They remained in Pennsylvania until 1745, when they migrated to Virginia, settling in Martinsburg. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Ohio and elsewhere.
