We would take the dog for a car ride. I would take along my camera phone and I would snap pictures through the car window as we sped dawn the highway. I think I invented a new technique. Works well for people that are mobility challengedI have a great love for birds. My husband set up feeders outside our picture window to attract hummingbirds. I would spend my mornings watching them.I have lots of time to watch them now. I learned a lot about hummingbirds just by watching them. I would use my new camera and take picture after picture of them. When I wasn't watching them I was reading about them. It gave me more pleasant things to think about.I decided to write a book because I want to share my joy of watching one of Gods miracles in their daily lives. It is a small book. It is under 40 pages. Book Synopsis Hummingbirds in the Trenches by : Kondwani Fidel
Download or read book Hummingbirds in the Trenches written by Kondwani Fidel and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-21 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Hummingbirds in The Trenches, Kondwani Fidel digests the circumstances of every day living in Baltimore. His honest recollection of growing up in his city--one plagued by poverty, inadequate schools, and violent murders--is a must read till the end. Fidel skillfully guides readers down a narrow line--his vulnerability on one side, his deafening power on the other. In the end, Fidel emerges a victor--overtly aware of the ironclad, historical systemic racism that continues to confine his community, yet still a hopeful, suggestive voice with a strong belief in change. His essays will make you cry tears of anger, but also tears of light-hearted laughter."--Stephanie Wash, Emmy Award Winning Producer and ABC News Journalist.
Book Synopsis Ruby-throated Hummingbird by : Robert Sargent

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Irresistible to bird-watchers and nature lovers." -- Booklist, 4/1/98 "It is hard to categorize these books. They are detailed life histories, not quite monographs but far more than typical one-species books for general audiences. If they were larger, and hardback, they would be coffee-table books, too well-written and too informative to be merely pretty picture books. Whatever they should be called, they are successful and should be read. I look forward to others in the series." -- Eirik A. T. Blom Bird Watchers Digest, March/April 98

Li-yan and her family align their lives around the seasons and the farming of tea. There is ritual and routine, and it has been ever thus for generations. Then one day a jeep appears at the village gate—the first automobile any of them have seen—and a stranger arrives. In this remote Yunnan village, the stranger finds the rare tea he has been seeking and a reticent Akha people. In her biggest seller, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, See introduced the Yao people to her readers. Here she shares the customs of another Chinese ethnic minority, the Akha, whose world will soon change. Li-yan, one of the few educated girls on her mountain, translates for the stranger and is among the first to reject the rules that have shaped her existence. When she has a baby outside of wedlock, rather than stand by tradition, she wraps her daughter in a blanket, with a tea cake hidden in her swaddling, and abandons her in the nearest city. After mother and daughter have gone their separate ways, Li-yan slowly emerges from the security and insularity of her village to encounter modern life while Haley grows up a privileged and well-loved California girl. Despite Haley’s happy home life, she wonders about her origins; and Li-yan longs for her lost daughter. They both search for and find answers in the tea that has shaped their family’s destiny for generations. A powerful story about a family, separated by circumstances, culture, and distance, Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane paints an unforgettable portrait of a little known region and its people and celebrates the bond that connects mothers and daughters.
