Book Synopsis Catholic Answers, Protestant Questions by : John Pasquini
Download or read book Catholic Answers, Protestant Questions written by John Pasquini and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where do we find the authentic faith of the Christian Church? In today's society we see within the Christian world numerous denominations, each claiming the fullness of the faith. Each denomination argues that it is guided by the Holy Spirit and each argues that it has the correct interpretation of the Scriptures. While it is true that God is active in all these denominations, the diversity of belief within Christianity must be viewed as troublesome since it is contrary to the unity that Christ so desired. Catholic Answers argues that the Catholic Church contains the fullness of the Christian faith and therefore is a must read for all Christians.
Book Synopsis Politics in Plural Societies by : Alvin Rabushka
Download or read book Politics in Plural Societies written by Alvin Rabushka and published by Addison-Wesley Longman. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This landmark study in the field of comparative politics is being celebrated for its return to print as the newest addition to the "Longman Classics in Political Science" series. Politics in Plural Societies presents a model of political competition in multi-ethnic societies and explains why plural societies, and the struggle for power within them, often erupt with inter-ethnic hostility. Distinguished scholars Alvin Rabushka and Kenneth Shepsle collaborate again in this reissuing of their classic work to demonstrate - in a new epilogue - the persistence of the arguments and evidence first offered in the book. They apply this thesis to the multi-ethnic politics of countries that are of great interest today: Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, Yugoslavia, and more.

Book Synopsis Africa and the Decolonisation of State-religion Policies by : John Osogo Ambani
Download or read book Africa and the Decolonisation of State-religion Policies written by John Osogo Ambani and published by Brill Research Perspectives in. This book was released on 2021 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that a view has taken root in Africa, which equates state-secularism to the aggressive removal of religion from the public sphere or even state ambivalence towards religious affairs. This view arises from a misguided interpretation of the practice of state-secularism particularly in France, Turkey and the US, which understanding is ill-suited for the sub-Sahara Africa's state-religion because the region boasts of at least three major religious traditions, African religion, Islam and Christianity, and blanket condemnation of public manifestation of religion or ambivalence towards it may offend the natural flourishing of this trinity and more. The contribution holds that most applications of state-secularism in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda favour the Christian faith, which during its tumultuous experiences in Europe survived the enlightenment, the reformation and like experiences socialised to co-exist with what are now called secular states. Additionally, due to the long history of Christendoms in Europe, Christian principles penetrated the colonial legal systems that were bequeathed to Africa at independence and the sustenance of the colonial legacy means that the Abrahamic faith has an upper hand in the state-religion relations' contest. The obvious loser is African religion which has suffered major onslaughts since the colonial days.

Book excerpt: "Essential reading for anyone who wants to understand history – and then go out and change it." –President Barack Obama Nelson Mandela was one of the great moral and political leaders of his time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country. After his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela was at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world. As president of the African National Congress and head of South Africa's antiapartheid movement, he was instrumental in moving the nation toward multiracial government and majority rule. He is still revered everywhere as a vital force in the fight for human rights and racial equality. Long Walk to Freedom is his moving and exhilarating autobiography, destined to take its place among the finest memoirs of history's greatest figures. Here for the first time, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela told the extraordinary story of his life -- an epic of struggle, setback, renewed hope, and ultimate triumph. The book that inspired the major motion picture Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
Book Synopsis Can Human Rights Survive? by : Conor Gearty
Download or read book Can Human Rights Survive? written by Conor Gearty and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-05-18 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this set of three essays, originally presented as the 2005 Hamlyn Lectures, Conor Gearty considers whether human rights can survive the challenges of the war on terror, the revival of political religion, and the steady erosion of the world's natural resources. He also looks deeper than this to consider the fundamental question: How can we tell what human rights are? In his first essay, Gearty asks how the idea of human rights needs to be made to work in our age of relativism, uncertainty and anxiety. In the second, he assesses how the idea of human rights has coped with its incorporation in legal form in the UK Human Rights Act, arguing that the record is much better and more democratic than many human rights enthusiasts allow. In his final essay, Gearty confronts the challenges that may destroy the language of human rights for the generations that follow us.
