Book Synopsis Bilingual New Testament I - The Holy Gospel by : George Valsamis
Download or read book Bilingual New Testament I - The Holy Gospel written by George Valsamis and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Greek original text, according to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the King James English translation are published here side by side in facing pages, co-operating for an edition that celebrates the original text of the New Testament, helping those who try to study, learn and enjoy this so important ancient and modern language. Contrary to Elpenor's Greek New Testament, this bilingual edition uses a smaller font size, in order to avoid expanding beyond the limit of two convenient volumes. I am always impressed by the love for Greek shared by so many people especially in the US and Europe. I hope this edition contributes something of real value to their joyous efforts. Book Synopsis Christology and the New Testament by : Christopher Mark Tuckett
Download or read book Christology and the New Testament written by Christopher Mark Tuckett and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this volume. Tuckett allows us to overhear the earliest conversations about Jesus. Who was He? Who did He think He was? How important was He to the development of early Christianity. This textbook olfers an up-to-date, comprehensive, and critical survey of the Question of the Christology of the different New Testament writers. It incorporates recent research in Judaism. and it takes note of critiques of older approaches to the subject. It covers the Christological ideas explicit or implicit in each of the main New Testament writers, as well as suggesting Jesus' own self-understanding. Finally, the volume also raises hermeneutical Questions concerning the place that any New Testament Christology might have in contemporaneous theological debate. Chapters cover the individual Epistles and Gospels, offering a historical-critical approach that places each writer within the original context. Assuming no prior knowledge of the discipline, Christology and the New Testament is ideal reading for students in Biblical Studies courses and those who study the development of Christian thought"--P. Download or read book The Didache written by Aaron Milavec and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Christians believe that everything about Jesus and the early church can be found in their New Testament. In recent years, however, the discovery of the Gospel of Thomas and the reconstruction of the Q-Gospel have led scholars to recognize that some very early materials were left out. Now, due to the pioneering efforts of Dr. Aaron Milavec, the most decisive document of them all, namely, the Didache ("Did-ah-Kay"), has come to light. Milavec has decoded the Didache and enabled it to reveal its hidden secrets regarding those years when Christianity was little more than a faction within the restless Judaisms of the mid-first-century. The Didache reveals a tantalizingly detailed description of the prophetic faith and day-to-day routines that shaped the Jesus movement some twenty years after the death of Jesus. The focus of the movement then was not upon proclaiming the exalted titles and deeds of Jesus - aspects that come to the fore in the letters of Paul and in the Gospel narratives. In contrast to these familiar forms of Christianity, the focus of the Didache was upon "the life and the knowledge" of Jesus himself. Thus, the Didache details the step-by-step process whereby non-Jews were empowered by assimilating the prophetic faith and the way of life associated with Jesus of Nazareth. Milavec's clear, concise, and inspiring commentaries are not only of essential importance to scholars, pastors, and students but also very useful for ordinary people who wish to unlock the secrets of the Didache. Milavec's analytic, Greek-English side-by-side, gender-inclusive translation is included as well as a description of how this document, after being fashioned and used 50-70 C.E., was mysteriously lost for over eighteen hundred years before being found in an obscure library in Istanbul. The study questions, bibliography, and flowcharts enable even first-time users to grasp the functional and pastoral genius that characterized the earliest Christian communities.
