Eight and a half months after Detective Ann Logan and seven-year-old Maggie Hart prevented Yaldabaoth from unleashing terror upon the world, all is quiet in Harmony, Colorado. But when Teresa Hart escapes from Mountain View Mental Hospital, Maggie’s perpetual nightmares intensify, and the mysterious marks that link Maggie and Ann burn to life, signaling the presence of a new evil—or the return of an old one. The ancient war between the servants of darkness and the servants of light is far from over. Once again Maggie and Ann, bound together by destiny, hold the space between the delicate balance of life as we know it and eternal horror. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance. On the filthy tattered sofa in the abandoned funeral home at the edge of Harmony, something evil has pushed its way into the world. And it is hungry.

Book Synopsis Metaphysical Conversations and Phenomenological Essays by : Hedwig Conrad-Martius
Download or read book Metaphysical Conversations and Phenomenological Essays written by Hedwig Conrad-Martius and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-10-02 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first translation into English of early phenomenologist Hedwig Conrad-Martius’ Metaphysical Conversations, originally published in 1921. Conrad-Martius was one of Husserl’s first students, an important part of the Göttingen Phenomenology Circle and mentor to Edith Stein, Jean Héring, and other early phenomenologists. The present volume provides the full German and English texts of the conversations, a phenomenological discussion of the nature of the human, examining the nature of body, soul, and spirit, and drawing distinctions between plants, animals, humans, and various other beings. The volume also includes two important essays on phenomenology, in which Conrad-Martius distinguishes between the phenomenological approaches of Husserl, Heidegger, and the more ontological approach of the Göttingen school of phenomenology. She is critical of Husserl’s "transcendental" and Heidegger’s "existential" approach. The conversations illustrate her use of the phenomenological method for fundamental investigations into the nature (or Wesen) of things.

Download or read book The Well of Souls written by M. Linton and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A story of a life well lived—a man who grew to manhood believing he was an Irish Catholic, but in fact was a German Jew. His story is told around his many achievements. It is not a pretty story; there is murder, adultery, rape of an innocent, and his struggle when he went to Sydney to become an SP bookie where he just managed to stay above the violent criminal element that ruled the city will keep you turning pages. But through it all, it was his lifelong search for his Jewish father and his almost frenetic wish for a son of his own that almost broke his spirit, sending him on a downward destructive path into alcoholism and cruelty. Then the Second World War erupted, and he found himself in the most terrifying and brutal encounter he had ever witnessed. But it also gave him a love that was all-consuming—a love story that will break the reader’s heart—as he struggled with the concept of loving two women, a situation that placed him in a no-win situation. But he was a soldier of war, and he covered himself with glory in the hot, arid deserts of North Africa, where he became a hero of sorts. But nothing is easy in life, least of all war; and he soon found himself fighting every day just to stay alive to hopefully return to his love. But again, tragedy strikes at him viciously, almost destroying his sanity. He struggles against the terrifying concept of being placed in a lunatic asylum for the insane, but help arrives for him in the form of a young American doctor; and he is returned to a semblance of sanity. He is repatriated back to Australia to try desperately to resume his life with his family while his heart lies with his lost love, buried beneath a gnarled old apricot tree somewhere on the island of Crete.

Book Synopsis Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh, Revised Edition by : Matthew Fox
Download or read book Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh, Revised Edition written by Matthew Fox and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visionary theologian and award-winning author Matthew Fox challenges traditional perceptions of good and evil by offering a new theology that lays the groundwork for a more enlightened treatment of ourselves, one another, and all of nature. In this revised edition with a luminous foreword by Deepak Chopra and a new preface that brings the book up to date with the cataclysmic events of the new millennium, Fox illustrates how, contrary to mainstream church doctrine, flesh is the grounding of spirit. Fox argues that our culture has concentrated far too much on transgressions of the flesh while failing to take into account its sacredness. Artfully weaving together the wisdom of East and West, he considers Thomas Aquinas's definition of sin as "misdirected love" and applies parallels between the Eastern teachings of the seven chakras and the Western teachings of the seven capital sins. Fox explains how the chakras teach us to direct the love-energies we all possess and proposes seven positive precepts for living a full and spirited life. He invites us to change the way we think about sin and asserts that we can combat and transform evil through love, generosity, letting go, and creativity. Crafting a blueprint for social change, Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh points the way toward a deeper and more compassionate way to live while eloquently revealing the means to confront evil both within and without. From the Trade Paperback edition.
