Book Synopsis When Bad Things Happen To Good People by : Michael Ibeneme
Download or read book When Bad Things Happen To Good People written by Michael Ibeneme and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-11-26 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are times in our lives when everything seems to fall apart, when everything seems to go wrong for us wherever we turn and whatever we do. At such moments it seems as if life itself has turned against us and we wonder if we are being punished for something we have done. We scream, we struggle, we pray, we battle; but all we perceive is an uncanny pushback that negates all our efforts and shoves us further down the slippery slope of frustration. We often observe to our chagrin, at such times, that so many people around us who do not care about God or godliness, or about uprightness and morality seem to enjoy a life of ease and comfort, sheltered from most of the pain and misfortune with which we ourselves are beset. Doubts often creep into our minds as we wonder if God is in control and if He actually notices that judgment is being taken away from people like us who honor Him in our livesProminent among others, we seek answers to questions such as, why do bad things happen to good people?

Book Synopsis The Good, the Bad, and the Godawful by : Kurt Loder
Download or read book The Good, the Bad, and the Godawful written by Kurt Loder and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2011-11-08 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The former Rolling Stone writer and MTV host takes off from classic Roger Ebert and sails boldly into the new millennium. Millions grew up reading the author's record reviews and watching him on MTV's "The Week in Rock." In this collection of more than 200 movie reviews from MTV.com and, more recently, the Reason magazine Website, plus sidebars exclusive to this volume, Loder demonstrates his characteristic wry voice and finely honed observations. The author shines when writing on the best that Hollywood and indie filmmakers have to offer, and his negative reviews are sometimes more fun than his raves. This freewheeling survey of the wild, the wonderful and the altogether otherwise is an indispensable book for any film buff.
Book Synopsis The Risk of Being by : Michael Gelven
Download or read book The Risk of Being written by Michael Gelven and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Risk of Being attempts to forge a new language and a new way of reasoning about what it is like to be good and bad by focusing on existential phenomena that reveal what it means to be good and bad. It is thus a work that cannot be located among or compared to the more traditional theories of ethics or morality. What distinguishes this inquiry is not only the use of existential themes, such as outrage, temptation, and corruption, but the reasoning itself in an existential critique, which allows us to consider how and what we think as well as feel about being good and bad&—the logos and pathos of these existential phenomena&—and thus provides an access to the question about the reality of good and bad. Recognizing that we have done wrong may induce frustrated responses, such as, &"How could I have been so stupid?&" or &"Why was I so weak? &" or even, &"What has become of me? &" These reactions, Gelven argues, point to folly, weakness, and corruption as ways of being bad, which can then be countered in phenomena such as judgment, courage, and integrity of character, as ways of being good. The analyses of these phenomena can reveal a great deal of existential understanding that no mere ethical or moral approach can offer. The emphasis is on understanding that &"good&" and &"bad&" are not mere axiological terms, but can refer to ways of existing. By careful analysis, these ways can be forced to reveal the truth about goodness and badness. As Gelven's argument proceeds to show not only what it is &"like&" to be good and bad, but also what the reality of being good and bad must be, he offers new and often unorthodox insights into one of the great philosophical issues challenging the thinking mind.

I am a high placed official with the Department of Finance Affairs in Lagos, Nigeria. This are monies left by a barrister who died tragically in a plane crash last year. . . Sound familiar? Congratulations. You have been selected to become a mugu, an expression African con artists use to describe the targets of their e-mail scams. But they drew a bead on the wrong guy when they started spamming Steve H. Graham. Like many Internet users, Graham eventually got tired of receiving mugu mail and decided to fire back at his wannabe swindlers. Armed with a scathing sense of humor, Graham quickly turned the tables on his tormenters—with side-splittingly hilarious results. Whether he's referring to his fictional lawyer Biff Wellington, complaining about the injury he received while milking a lactating sloth, or offering the Preparation H helpline as his phone number, Graham—using aliases such as Wile E. Coyote, Barney Rubble, and Herman Munster—offers proof that spamming the spammers is the best revenge. Steve H. Graham is a retired attorney. Since childhood, he has been fighting for truth, justice, and free movie passes. For each copy sold of this book, he will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to himself. He is also the author of the cookbook Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man. He lives in Miami.
