Will Wang’s family cherish the estate after he’s gone? Book Synopsis Green Earth by : Kim Stanley Robinson
Download or read book Green Earth written by Kim Stanley Robinson and published by Del Rey. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 1090 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landmark trilogy of cutting-edge science, international politics, and the real-life ramifications of climate change—updated and abridged into a single novel More than a decade ago, bestselling author Kim Stanley Robinson began a groundbreaking series of near-future eco-thrillers—Forty Signs of Rain, Fifty Degrees Below, and Sixty Days and Counting—that grew increasingly urgent and vital as global warming continued unchecked. Now, condensed into one volume and updated with the latest research, this sweeping trilogy gains new life as Green Earth, a chillingly realistic novel that plunges readers into great floods, a modern Ice Age, and the political fight for all our lives. The Arctic ice pack averaged thirty feet thick in midwinter when it was first measured in the 1950s. By the end of the century it was down to fifteen. One August the ice broke. The next year the breakup started in July. The third year it began in May. That was last year. It’s a muggy summer in Washington, D.C., as Senate environmental staffer Charlie Quibler and his scientist wife, Anna, work to call attention to the growing crisis of global warming. But as they fight to align the extraordinary march of modern technology with the awesome forces of nature, fate puts an unusual twist on their efforts—one that will pit science against politics in the heart of the coming storm. Praise for the Science in the Capital trilogy “Perhaps it’s no coincidence that one of our most visionary hard sci-fi writers is also a profoundly good nature writer—all the better to tell us what it is we have to lose.”—Los Angeles Times “An unforgettable demonstration of what can go wrong when an ecological balance is upset.”—The New York Times Book Review “Absorbing and convincing.”—Nature
Download or read book The Good Brother written by Chris Offutt and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the critically acclaimed author of the collection Kentucky Straight and memoir My Father the Pornographer, The Good Brother is the finely crafted debut novel from a talent the New York Times calls “a fierce writer”. Virgil Caudill has never gone looking for trouble, but this time he's got no choice—his hell-raising brother Boyd has been murdered. Everyone knows who did it, and in the hills of Kentucky, tradition won’t let a murder go unavenged. No matter which way he chooses, Virgil will lose. The Good Brother is the story of a man’s struggle to find his real self in the wake of an impossible choice. Traversing the American landscape from the hollows of Eastern Kentucky to the plains of Montana, Offutt explores the hunger for belonging that drives our most passionate beliefs, and in the process shows himself to be one of our most powerful storytellers.

Book Synopsis Geoscience Information by : A.P. Harvey
Download or read book Geoscience Information written by A.P. Harvey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on Geological Information represents the first major attempt to bring together geoscience information specialists from allover the world. The purpose of the conference was to assess the current state-of the-art in geoscience information from both the regional and functional point of view. It was hoped that the conference could take steps to bring about increased international cooperation and collaboration in the field of geological information. The papers ranged over the whole spec trum of documentation from primary publishing back to the user, including data. Perhaps a keyword for the conference might be "cooperation". The idea of, and need for, cooperation was stressed in almost every talk. The final panel session was devoted to a discussion on the formation of a proposed International Association for Geological Information. Despite the growing pressure on information managers, stimulated by increasing international activities in geology, the global perspective of plate tectonics and worldwide concern for the availability of non-renewable resources, there does not exist an international organisation specifi cally concerned with geological information. Delegates agreed that there was no need for a new professional society of individuals but that a federation or similar organisation might be desirable. In the final session it became apparent that if the geological information community is to make the best use of all the systems and developments available there is very clearly a need to know what exists in all these areas at present. An urgent task is to identify these systems.

Book excerpt: This is not a book about Religion. Using the real birthday of Jesus, kinda, plus fractals and other patterns found in nature, I have created several new zodiac charts to help locate, and describe, the evil ones amoung us. I gave these charts such names as ' Heaven to Hell', ' Child, Teen, Adult', 'Leaping Lizards', and my favorite, 'The Wheel of Good & Evil'. With certain specific patterns, I was able to locate such horrible people as 'The Professional Victims', 'People of Rage', and 'The Laughing Idiots'. A "Health Chart' is included that might help you feel better and look younger for years longer. It uses the seperation of white light through a prism, or the power of 3, to let you know who on the zodiac wheel might help in restoring you back to life. If hell is other people, then heaven can be other people too. Names were giving to all 12 zodiac zones on the wheel, and most of the evil subzones too. These names describe the basic essense of those individuals who were born inside those zones. Some of the names giving include:

This book draws on some of history’s philosophical heavy hitters: Descartes, Kant, Karl Marx, and many more. You’ll say “Hasta la vista, baby” to philosophical confusion as you develop a new appreciation for the complexities of John and Sarah Connor and the battles between Skynet and the human race.
