Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robbery has always been a crime of passion, the result of individuals being struck with a lust for ill gotten gain. The five members of The Syndicate, an international crime group with supporters in the British Government, Church of England and the Freemasons, together with several influential members of the Vatican’s College of Cardinals were no exception. Cardinal Di Luca, Grandmaster of the Order of the Deity and Vatican power broker Cardinal Saltieri along with the mysterious Sister Marie-Élise Bessette conspired to find the lost wealth of the Vatican. What followed was a trail of death and destruction as the fanatical Order of the Deity sought power and control of the Roman Church at any price. At Cardinal Di Luca’s command, the church entered into a fearful and deadly conflict with both The Syndicate and a Chinese Pirate Lord known as the ‘Chameleon’. Within months the desolation of the Holy Roman Church appeared inevitable! With the Vatican’s power base on the verge of collapse and the walls of the city state under siege from foreign powers, the pontiff sought exile in Britain using the hidden wealth of his church to buy passage to freedom. While an evil spread throughout the Holy city the Catholic Churches most closely guarded secret was revealed by Syndicate member Michael Daniels, alias ‘Ares’. When the opportunity to steal the hidden Vatican Gold presented itself, temptation for all concerned proved irresistible!

The alleged crime boss and mass murderer oversaw a reign of terror in the small mining town that bore his name. Driven by greed, he stole ore, swindled mines away from their owners and bribed his way out of justice. Those who crossed him usually ended up dead. But are the legends actually true? Relying on original source material, including court documents and newspapers, Arizona historian Parker Anderson reveals the true story of Stanton for the first time and broaches the possibility that the mysterious Irish Lord may not have been guilty of the terrible crimes that folklore has attributed to him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive biography of infamous western outlaw Harvey Alexander Logan, better known as Kid Curry. A violent conflict with a ranching neighbor in Montana caused him to flee to the Hole-in-the-Wall valley in Wyoming, where he became involved in rustling and eventually graduated to bank and train robbing as a member of the Wild Bunch. This outlaw group was a melding of the best of the Hole-in-the-Wall gang and Butch Cassidy's Powder Springs gang. Smokov shows that Curry was not the bloodthirsty killer that many have claimed. He contends that Curry was the actual train robbing leader of the Wild Bunch.

To get by they rustle cattle in western New Mexico during the 1930’s depression. Jesse is arrested and sentenced to the state penitentiary. He discovers that prison is a place of vicious guards and brutal convicts. He learns that his survival is based on knowing and following the prison’s unwritten code. Jesse survives his sentence and is released from prison. He believes that being feared is the secret to survival. To him everyone is either a predator or the prey. Jesse joins a rustling syndicate when he returns to the ranching community. While hiding out, he learns about a lost treasure in western New Mexico and becomes obsessed with finding it. The more he searches for the treasure, the greater his need for finding it. His fear that someone else will find his treasure triggers a surge in his distrust of other people. As his paranoia rages, it drives him to commit multiple murders. Jesse’s two younger brothers, Joe and Wade, return from World War II as grown men hardened by combat who no longer idolize Jesse. Instead, they suspect him of killing their father while they were away fighting in the war. The hard feelings between the brothers sparks a fight between them at a reunion on Mom’s ranch. The mutual distrust between the brothers culminates the following summer in a tragic confrontation between the three brothers on the malpais, a desolate lava flow.

Book Synopsis The Columbia by : Stewart H. Holbrook
Download or read book The Columbia written by Stewart H. Holbrook and published by Epicenter Press. This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Columbia commemorates the disciplining and conversion of a wilderness river from a water passageway to a powerhouse and a source of irrigation. Here is the story of its explorers who came by boat and by foot: the bickering and battles between Hudson's Bay Company and Astor's fur trappers, the settlers that turned politicians to keep the Oregon Territory in the U.S. and to make two states out of it, the coming of steamboats, the potent force of the railways, and later the highways. The Columbia follows the story of the canals, locks, and dams which flooded old landmarks to give new pioneers farm lands and electricity, and the story of the settlement of the Pacific Northwest.
