Book Synopsis The Poet as Phenomenologist by : Luke Fischer
Download or read book The Poet as Phenomenologist written by Luke Fischer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poet as Phenomenologist: Rilke and the New Poems opens up new perspectives on the relation between Rilke's poetry and phenomenological philosophy, illustrating the ways in which poetry can offer an exceptional response to the philosophical problem of dualism. Drawing on the work of Husserl, Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty, Luke Fischer makes a new contribution to the tradition of phenomenological poetics and expands the debate among Germanists concerning the phenomenological status of Rilke's poetry, which has been severely limited to comparisons of Rilke and Husserl. Fischer explicates an implicit phenomenology of perception in Rilke's writings from his middle period (1902-1910). He argues that Rilke cultivated an artistic perception that, in a philosophically significant manner, overcomes the opposition between the sensuous and the intelligible while simultaneously transcending the boundaries of philosophy. Fischer offers novel interpretations of central poems from Rilke's Neue Gedichte (1907) and Der neuen Gedichte anderer Teil (1908) and frames them as the ultimate articulation of Rilke's non-dualistic vision. He thus demonstrates the continuity between Rilke and phenomenology while arguing that poetry, in this case, provides the most adequate response to a philosophical problem.

Book Synopsis God's Amazing Creatures and Me by : Helen Haidle
Download or read book God's Amazing Creatures and Me written by Helen Haidle and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A creation devotional for children ages 6-10, which shows detailed, pen and ink illustrations of animals - mammals, insects, birds - paired with a description of each, then an application for the youthful reader. In exploring God’s awesome nature, it is helpful for children to understand God’s design for them. For example, just as the monarch butterfly emerges from a cocoon to soar to heights above the clouds, so too can we all rest in the knowledge that God has made each of us special, and He has great love and a plan for us.
Book Synopsis Explaining the Holocaust by : Mordecai Schreiber
Download or read book Explaining the Holocaust written by Mordecai Schreiber and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2015-10-29 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy years after it took place, the Holocaust committed in Europe during World War II continues to cast a shadow over humankind. Man's inhumanity to man is not a thing of the past; genocidal action is still commonplace around the globe. Has humankind learned the lessons of the past? Is the human race doomed to live in a perpetual state of war and self-destruction?Explaining the Holocaust shows how, given the right circumstances, human beings can lose their humanity. Does that mean that the ethical teachings of the major religions are wishful thinking? This book tackles two questions that continue to be asked by people everywhere: Why did a highly civilised nation like Germany, in the middle of the twentieth century, commit the most heinous crime in human history? And if indeed there is a loving God who made a covenant with the people of Israel, why were millions of innocent Jews dehumanised, starved, tortured, and systematically murdered?Explaining the Holocaust spares no one in discussing the enormity of this evil. But it also shows how the divine spark in human beings did not die during those years of darkness, and why we still have a glimmer of hope.

Book Synopsis Natural History Dioramas – Traditional Exhibits for Current Educational Themes by : Annette Scheersoi
Download or read book Natural History Dioramas – Traditional Exhibits for Current Educational Themes written by Annette Scheersoi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the history of natural history dioramas in museums, their building and science learning aspects, as well as current developments and their place in the visitor experience. From the early 1900s, with the passage of time and changes in cultural norms in societies, this genre of exhibits evolved in response to the changes in entertainment, expectations and expressed needs of museum visitors. The challenge has always been to provide meaningful, relevant experiences to visitors, and this is still the aim today. Dioramas are also increasingly valued as learning tools. Contributions in this book specifically focus on their educational potential. In practice, dioramas are used by a wide range of educational practitioners to assist learners in developing and understanding specific concepts, such as climate change, evolution or or conservation issues. In this learning process, dioramas not only contribute to scientific understanding and cultural awareness, but also reconnect wide audiences to the natural world and thereby contribute to the well-being of societies. In the simultaneously published book: “Natural History Dioramas – Traditional Exhibits for Current Educational Themes, Socio-cultural Aspects” the editors focus on socio-cultural issues and the potential of using dioramas to engage various audiences with – and in – contemporary debates and big issues, which society and the natural environment are facing.
