Book excerpt: Excerpt from Adams, Edgar H., Correspondence, 1920-1933: Ans Garrett Papers, Box 1, Folder 1a I have gone over your lies of the private gold pieces in the Garrett collection and that of those not contained by the collection. I find that there are a few varieties not mentioned in either. Your list shows all the known dollar varieties. Of the quarter eagles there is one variety of the 64 G. 22 Carats typo showing the second of the figures 22 somewhat above the first. The second variety shows both figures in a fairly straight line. There are two varieties of the quarter eagle 250 20 C. The first shows 78 beads around the obverse border and 65 around the reverse. The second variety shows 57 beads around the obverse border and 50 arpund the reverse. There is a variety of the C. Bechtler 128 G. 22 Carats piece showing the word Rutherford Spelled in full. Your list lacks a variety of a. Bechtler $5 of 134 G. 21 Carats. There are said to be a few other minor varieties, but I have not seen them, and therefore cannot accurately describe them. I will keep in.mind the ones the collection lacks and if any of them comes to me I will be glad to immediately inform you. After Oct. 15 I expect to be in Brooklyn, and a telephone call to 1737 Sterling will reach me. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Bunker written by Bradley Garrett and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since prehistory, bunkers have been built as protection from cataclysmic social and environmental forces, and as places of power and transformation. Today, the bunker has become the extreme expression of our greatest fears- from pandemics to climate change and nuclear war. And once you look, it doesn't take long to start seeing bunkers everywhere. In Bunker, acclaimed urban explorer and cultural geographer Bradley Garrett explores the global and rapidly growing movement of 'prepping' for social and environmental collapse, or 'Doomsday'. From the 'dread merchants' hustling safe spaces in the American mid-West to eco-fortresses in Thailand, from geoscrapers to armoured mobile bunkers, Bunker is a brilliant, original and never less than deeply disturbing story from the frontlines of the way we live now, an illuminating reflection on our age of disquiet and dread that brings it into new, sharp focus. The bunker, Garrett shows, is all around us, in malls, airports, gated communities, the vehicles we drive. Most of all, he shows, it's in our minds.

Download or read book More Than Just Food written by Garrett Broad and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The industrial food system has created a crisis in the United States that is characterized by abundant food for privileged citizens and “food deserts” for the historically marginalized. In response, food justice activists based in low-income communities of color have developed community-based solutions, arguing that activities like urban agriculture, nutrition education, and food-related social enterprises can drive systemic social change. Focusing on the work of several food justice groups—including Community Services Unlimited, a South Los Angeles organization founded as the nonprofit arm of the Southern California Black Panther Party—More Than Just Food explores the possibilities and limitations of the community-based approach, offering a networked examination of the food justice movement in the age of the nonprofit industrial complex.

Download or read book A Long, Long Way written by Greg Garrett and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hollywood films are perhaps the most powerful storytellers in American history, and their depiction of race and culture has helped to shape the way people around the world respond to race and prejudice. Over the past one hundred years, films have moved from the radically-prejudiced views of people of color to the depiction of people of color by writers and filmmakers from within those cultures. In the process, we begin to see how films have depicted negative versions of people outside the white mainstream, and how film might become a vehicle for racial reconciliation. Religious traditions offer powerful correctives to our cultural narratives, and this work incorporates both narrative truthtelling and religious truthtelling as we consider race and film and work toward reconciliation. By exploring the hundred-year period from The Birth of a Nation to Get Out, this work acknowledges the racist history of America, and offers the possibility of hope for the future"--
