The story in The Fourth Bear Hug begins after Czermak retires from Clemson, sells his two homes, and moves to Colorado. He then starts working as a part-time professor at the University of Colorado and shares an office with a visiting professor from Moscow. He and Professor Lara Medvedev start traveling together to meetings, and a loving relationship develops. They attend a conference in Sweden followed by going to Moscow so John can meet Lara’s parents. During this time Czermak visits a good friend at the Academy of Sciences where they go to the roof of a tall academy building to take some pictures. Then Alexei shows up and tries to push Czermak off the building, but instead Alexei falls to his death. Since John now thinks that no one is trying to murder him, he asks Lara to marry him. She happily agrees. A few days later they have a wedding reception at Lara’s parents’ home. The party has a tragic ending. The story in the latter book begins with Dr. John James Czermak wanting to start a new life because he was responsible for his third wife getting murdered. He retires from Clemson University, sells his two homes in South Carolina, and moves to Colorado. John then starts working as a part-time professor at the University of Colorado and shares an office with a visiting professor from Moscow. Lara Medvedev and John start traveling together to meetings, and a loving relationship develops. They attend a conference in Sweden, followed by an expedition on a ship down the coast of Norway. From Oslo, they fly to Saint Petersburg, followed by a train ride to Moscow so John can meet Lara’s parents. After their arrival in Moscow, John visits a good friend at the Academy of Sciences, where they go to the roof of a tall academy building so John can take some pictures. Then Alexei, who believes Czermak killed his brother and two nephews, shows up and tries to push John off the building, but instead, he falls to his death. Since John now thinks no one is trying to murder him, he asks Lara to marry him. She happily agrees. A few days later, they have a wedding reception at the home of Lara’s parents. After the party ends and everyone has left, Lara’s ex-husband arrives to kill John but accidentally kills Lara. In The Fifth Bear Hug, John returns to Colorado, sells his home in Nederland, and moves to Denver. Kim Carn, a CIA agent, contacts John and asks for his help on a few missions to gather intelligence for the CIA as he had done when he was at Clemson University. Kim is also on the lookout for the person who murdered her husband, who was the CIA bureau chief at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev. She suspects he was killed because he had obtained embarrassing information concerning a White House request for the Ukraine government to find damaging information on a leading presidential candidate who was a former American ambassador to the Ukraine. The White House knows that Kim now has the information. She narrowly escapes being killed by a CIA-hired assassin who had murdered her husband. The story ends with Kim’s car being blown up by the assassin with John inside the car instead of Kim. Book excerpt: At the end of WWII the two mightiest armies in history stood on opposite sides of the Elbe River in Germany, basking in their victory over Nazi Germany. But was that shooting war truly over? Joseph Stalin could not help but notice that by the time of their August, 1944, Conference in Potsdam, that both FDR and Churchill were no longer on the world stage, replaced by a “failed haberdasher”, Harry Truman, and a British Socialist, Clement Attlee. With the Allied armies depleting their European forces for the coming invasion of Japan, Stalin embarks on an ambitious plan to continue to roll westward, and complete the submission of all of Europe before the Allies can react to stop him. And with a brilliant plan he temporarily thwarts the Americans’ atomic bomb capability. It becomes a race and a struggle for a hodge-podge of Allied units, commanded by personal enemies George Patton and Bernard Montgomery, as the two generals try to patch up their differences. They try everything both in, and out, of the book, including using former German enemies to try to buy enough time to halt the Soviet onslaught.

Book excerpt: Stella is a young mother and nurse struggling to hold onto her faith as she faces infidelity and divorce while trying to support and care for her children, her coworkers, and her patients. As Stella faces pain, anger, and heartbreak, she discovers her strengths and weaknesses. She learns to accept God’s grace. Stella learns not only who she really is in Christ, but also who God really is and what He truly expects of her. Just as Jesus talked about the four seeds, Stella will find out just what kind of seed she truly is. The Four Seeds is a heartfelt, emotional Christian novel about a young woman trying to believe in the goodness of God despite incredible difficulty. God does not promise Christians a pain free life. Every Christian needs to learn how to trust God, even when trouble derails our happiness. Stella’s story will help show how God can use our trials to mold us into His image. It may also help you to be prepared when suffering invades your personal story.
