These inventories provide information on the ex tent and condition of State and privately owned forest lands and most other lands not in the National Forest System, volume of timber, and rates of timber growth, removals, and mortality. These data, when combined with similar information on National Forest lands, provide a basis for forming forest policies and programs and for the orderly development and use of the resources.
