This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first to present a state-of-the-art overview of this field, with many results published for the first time. It covers the general conditions as well as the basic applications of the theory, and it covers and demystifies the vast and technically demanding Russian literature in detail. Its coverage is thorough, streamlined and arranged according to difficulty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: whioh the developments are appropriate in an elementary text book is open to doubt. Fortunately the proceedings of the conference arranged by the Society of Actuaries Research Committee in September 1974 provide an effective review of the ourrent position (Credibility, Theory and Applications, Ed. P. M. Kahn, Academic Press, 1975). It is doubtful if any practical use is now made of the Esscher approximation and the N-P method is much more convenient and of adequate accuracy in most practical work. Thus the first half of Chapter 6 is now largely of historical interest. Chapter 11 dealing with ruin probability during a finite time interval does not give an adequate view of the current importanoe of this topic but the position is fluid because of the considerable effort being expended in the search for practical methods of calcu lation. Formulae are, in general, complicated and involve extensive computer based quadratures or simulation techniques. The paper by Seal in the Scandinavian Actuarial Journal (The Numerical Calculation of U(w,t) the Probability of Non-ruin in an Interval (O,t) 1974) gives a recent treatment and a fairly complete list of relevant references. In many countries studies are currently in progress in the develop ment of models for business planning where the basic operations involve a stochastic process. Not only are insurance companies interested but in many commercial and industrial firms the needs are significant so that a very large field exists for applications.

Book Synopsis King William's Tontine by : Moshe A. Milevsky
Download or read book King William's Tontine written by Moshe A. Milevsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-04-13 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a time before bonds, treasury notes, or central banks, there were tontines. These were schemes in which a group of investors lent money to a government, corporation, or king, similar to a modern-day loan syndicate. But unlike conventional debt, periodic interest payments were distributed only to survivors. As tontine nominees died, the income of survivors correspondingly increased. Morbid, perhaps, but this was one of the earliest forms of longevity insurance in which the pool shared the risk. Moshe A. Milevsky tells the story of the first tontine issued by the English government in 1693, known as King William's tontine, intended to finance the war against French King Louis XIV. He explains how tontines work, the financial and economic thinking behind them, as well as why they fell into disrepute. Milevsky concludes with a provocative argument that suitably modified tontines should be resurrected for twenty-first-century retirement income planning.
Book Synopsis Actuarial Mathematics by : Harry H. Panjer
Download or read book Actuarial Mathematics written by Harry H. Panjer and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1986 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes from the 1985 AMS Short Course examine a variety of topics from the contemporary theory of actuarial mathematics. Recent clarification in the concepts of probability and statistics has laid a much richer foundation for this theory. Other factors that have shaped the theory include the continuing advances in computer science, the flourishing mathematical theory of risk, developments in stochastic processes, and recent growth in the theory of finance. In turn, actuarial concepts have been applied to other areas such as biostatistics, demography, economic, and reliability engineering.

Book Synopsis Population Dynamics by : T. N. E. Greville
Download or read book Population Dynamics written by T. N. E. Greville and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Population Dynamics covers the proceedings of a symposium conducted by the Mathematics Research Center, The University of Wisconsin, Madison on June 19-21, 1972. The book focuses on the application of mathematics to the study of human population growth. The selection first offers information on population waves and the properties of a stochastic attraction model. Discussions focus on social distance, limiting behavior of the model, mathematical development, population increase and retirement pensions, natural periodicity in the demographic system, trends in generational stability, mobility in unstable populations, and the Easterlin effect. The text then takes a look at the sampling frame as a determinant of observed distributions of duration variables and comparison of alternative marriage models, including plausible marriage models, axioms for marriage functions, birth intervals, and computer simulation of prospective and interior birth interval lengths. The manuscript ponders on contraceptive impact over several generations, estimation of the risk of conception from censored data, and influence of cause of death structure on age-patterns of mortality. Topics include distributions of conception times, simulation of experiments, potential fertility of users, and length of protection. The selection is a valuable reference for researchers interested in population dynamics.
