Download or read book The Victoria and Albert Museum written by Elizabeth James and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 841 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive bibliography and exhibition chronology of the world's greatest museum of the decorative arts and design. The Victoria and Albert Museum, or South Kensington Museum as it used to be known, was founded by the British Government in 1852, out of the proceeds from the Great Exhibition of 1851. Like the Exhibition, it aimed to improve the expertise of designers, and the taste of the public, by exposing them to examples of good design from all countries and periods. 2,500 publications have to date been produced by, for, or in association with the V&A. The National Art Library, which is part of the Museum, has prepared this detailed catalogue, supplemented by a secondary list of 500 other books closely related to the V&A. The 1,500 exhibitions and displays recorded include those held in the main Museum and at its branches, the Bethnal Green Museum (now the National Museum of Childhood) and the Theatre Museum, Covent Garden, and additionally those it has organized at external venues, in Great Britain and abroad. The exhibitions and publications are fully cross-referenced, and there are name, title and subject indexes to the whole work, as well as an explanatory introduction.
Download or read book Sightlines written by Walter Jule and published by University of Alberta. This book was released on 1997-09 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sightlines is an architectural term meaning what you can see from where you stand - it's a question of perspective. This collection of images and words, gathered in conjunction with the international Sightlines symposium in Edmonton, Canada, in 1997, reveals the printmaker and the print from many angles. Including more than 250 color images representing more than 120 artists and a text by more than a dozen contributors, Sightlines opens up a rare view of contemporary printmaking around the world.
Book Synopsis Exhibition as Social Intervention by : Joshua Decter
Download or read book Exhibition as Social Intervention written by Joshua Decter and published by Afterall Books. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A show challenging conventional understandings of public art, Culture in Action in Chicago had a new social agenda, and rethought what an exhibition of contemporary art might be. Through eight projects by artists initiated in the early 1990s and developed in collaboration with local people, the intention was to engage diverse groups over time, in addition to the visiting public in 1993. In the fifth book in Afterall's Exhibition Histories series, the course of these projects is documented, with critical reappraisal of this important exhibition in newly commissioned essays and interviews, together with reviews from the time.
