Download or read book Made to Stick written by Chip Heath and published by Random House. This book was released on 2007-01-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The instant classic about why some ideas thrive, why others die, and how to make your ideas stick. “Anyone interested in influencing others—to buy, to vote, to learn, to diet, to give to charity or to start a revolution—can learn from this book.”—The Washington Post Mark Twain once observed, “A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on.” His observation rings true: Urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus news stories circulate effortlessly. Meanwhile, people with important ideas—entrepreneurs, teachers, politicians, and journalists—struggle to make them “stick.” In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps. Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds—from the infamous “kidney theft ring” hoax to a coach’s lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony—draw their power from the same six traits. Made to Stick will transform the way you communicate. It’s a fast-paced tour of success stories (and failures): the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who drank a glass of bacteria to prove a point about stomach ulcers; the charities who make use of the Mother Teresa Effect; the elementary-school teacher whose simulation actually prevented racial prejudice. Provocative, eye-opening, and often surprisingly funny, Made to Stick shows us the vital principles of winning ideas—and tells us how we can apply these rules to making our own messages stick.

Book Synopsis The Explanation of the Six Principles by : Shaykh Abdur Razzaaq Bin Abdul Al Badr
Download or read book The Explanation of the Six Principles written by Shaykh Abdur Razzaaq Bin Abdul Al Badr and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first principle; doing actions sincerely for Allah the Blessed and Exalted, and warning and distancing oneself from Shirk. This is the principle which the Shaykh of Islam began with, may Allah have mercy upon him. This is the core of the foundation, the greatest of them, and the most beneficial of them without exception; making the actions sincerely for Allah, and warning against Shirk. Making all actions sincere for Allah means: the worship of the person, and their obedience, to include prayer, Zakat, sacrificing, hope, fear, vowing, reliance, seeking help and other than that, must be sincerely for Allah the Blessed and Exalted. The (action which is) sincere (ِِAl-Khaalis) is that which is pure and untainted; not containing impurity. It does not contain the impurity of Shirk, or the impurity of showing off or trying to be heard of, rather the person only seeks by his actions the Face of Allah the Blessed and Exalted. When he supplicates, he makes his Dua'a sincerely for Allah. When he relies, purifies his reliance only relying upon Allah, when he fears he purifies his fear, only fearing Allah. He performs all of his worship for Allah the Blessed and Exalted. He does not ask from other than Allah, he only seeks aid from Allah, he only puts his trust in Allah, and he entrust all of his affairs to Allah the Blessed and Exalted. The (action which is) sincere is that which is pure and untainted. And Allah the Blessed and Exalted only accepts actions if they are done sincerely for His Face, in accordance with the Sunnah of His prophet, peace be upon him. The Exalted said: And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion. (Soorah Al-Bayyinah 98:5)Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. (Soorah Az-Zumar 39:3)And He said: Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases (Soorah An Nisa 4:48)And the prophet peace be upon him said: Allah the Blessed and Exalted said: I am so self-sufficient that I am in no need of having an associate. Thus he who does an action for someone else's sake as well as Mine, I will have that action renounced by Me to him whom he associated with Me. Here is an issue which needs attention and it is: Regardless of our level of knowledge and regardless of our level of obedience and worship it is upon us-O slaves of Allah-to enjoin one other with the Tawheed of Allah the Blessed and Exalted often; and to always warn ourselves from falling into Shirk, its major forms and its minor forms. From the proofs of that is the statement of Allah the Blessed and Exalted about the Imam of the monotheist, Ibrahim Al Khaleel, peace be upon him. He said in his Dua'a: And keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols. (Soorah Ibrahim 14:35)And he is a prophet, and his sons Ismael and Ishaq are prophets, and yet he makes this great Dua'
Book Synopsis The Power of Networks by : Christopher G. Brinton
Download or read book The Power of Networks written by Christopher G. Brinton and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible illustrated introducton to the networks we use every day, from Facebook and Google to WiFi and the Internet What makes WiFi faster at home than at a coffee shop? How does Google order search results? Is it really true that everyone on Facebook is connected by six steps or less? The Power of Networks answers questions like these for the first time in a way that all of us can understand. Using simple language, analogies, stories, hundreds of illustrations, and no more math than simple addition and multiplication, Christopher Brinton and Mung Chiang provide a smart and accessible introduction to the handful of big ideas that drive the computer networks we use every day. The Power of Networks unifies these ideas through six fundamental principles of networking. These principles explain the difficulties in sharing network resources efficiently, how crowds can be wise or not so wise depending on the nature of their connections, why there are many layers in a network, and more. Along the way, the authors also talk with and share the special insights of renowned experts such as Google’s Eric Schmidt, former Verizon Wireless CEO Dennis Strigl, and “fathers of the Internet” Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn.

Book Synopsis Making Scientists by : Gregory Light
Download or read book Making Scientists written by Gregory Light and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many college students, studying the hard sciences seems out of the question. Students and professors alike collude in the prejudice that physics and molecular biology, mathematics and engineering are elite disciplines restricted to a small number with innate talent. Gregory Light and Marina Micari reject this bias, arguing, based on their own transformative experiences, that environment is just as critical to academic success in the sciences as individual ability. Making Scientists lays the groundwork for a new paradigm of how scientific subjects can be taught at the college level, and how we can better cultivate scientists, engineers, and other STEM professionals. The authors invite us into Northwestern University’s Gateway Science Workshop, where the seminar room is infused with a sense of discovery usually confined to the research lab. Conventional science instruction demands memorization of facts and formulas but provides scant opportunity for critical reflection and experimental conversation. Light and Micari stress conceptual engagement with ideas, practical problem-solving, peer mentoring, and—perhaps most important—initiation into a culture of cooperation, where students are encouraged to channel their energy into collaborative learning rather than competition with classmates. They illustrate the tangible benefits of treating students as apprentices—talented young people taking on the mental habits, perspectives, and wisdom of the scientific community, while contributing directly to its development. Rich in concrete advice and innovative thinking, Making Scientists is an invaluable guide for all who care about the future of science and technology.

Book Synopsis Principles of Animal Research Ethics by : Tom L. Beauchamp
Download or read book Principles of Animal Research Ethics written by Tom L. Beauchamp and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first to present a framework of general principles for animal research ethics together with an analysis of the principles' meaning and moral requirements. This new framework of six moral principles constitutes a more suitable set of moral guidelines than any currently available, including the influential framework presented in the Principles of Humane Experimental Technique published in 1959 by zoologist and psychologist William M. S. Russell and microbiologist Rex L. Burch. While other accounts have presented specific directives to guide the use of animals in research, Tom L. Beauchamp and David DeGrazia here offer a set of general moral principles that are adequate to the task of evaluating biomedical and behavioral research involving animals today. Their comprehensive framework addresses ethical requirements pertaining to societal benefit-a critical consideration in justifying the harming of animals in research-and features a thorough program of animal welfare protection. In doing so, their principles bridge the gap between the concerns of the research community and the animal-protection community. The book is distinctive in featuring commentaries on the framework of principles by eminent figures in animal research ethics from an array of relevant disciplines: veterinary medicine, biomedical research, biology, zoology, comparative psychology, primatology, law, and bioethics. The seven commentators-Larry Carbone, Frans de Waal, Rebecca Dresser, Joseph Garner, Brian Hare, Margaret Landi, and Julian Savulescu-scrutinize Beauchamp and DeGrazia's principles in terms of both their theoretical cogency and practical implications, evaluating their relevance to the medical and scientific professions. The range of ethical issues encompassed in Principles of Animal Research Ethics will be useful to professionals in the biomedical and behavioral sciences and will also appeal to individuals and scholars interested in bioethics, animal ethics, and applied ethics generally.

Our world is in dire need of repair and restoration and it must begin within the confines of our immediate families...We must start with the head and roots of our family, which is the Man.One of God's most effective and greatest resources is a man who is fully dedicated and willing to stand in the gap and call those things which be not as though they were. All it takes is one man!
