Book Synopsis The New Capitalist Manifesto by : Umair Haque
Download or read book The New Capitalist Manifesto written by Umair Haque and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this manifesto-style book, radical economist and strategist Umair Haque calls for the end of the corrupt business ideals that exemplify business as usual. His passionate vision for "Capitalism 2.0," or "constructive capitalism," is one in which old paradigms of wasteful growth, inefficient competition, and self-destructive ideals are left far behind at this reset moment. According the Haque, the economic crisis was not a market failure or even a financial crisis, but an institutional one. Haque details a holistic five-step plan for both reducing the negative and exploitive nature of the current system and ensuring positive social and economic growth for the future. Haque calls for a reexamination of ideals, and urges business away from competition and rivalries and toward a globally-conscious and constructive model--and a constructive future. Haque argues that companies must learn to orient their business models around: - renewal in order to maximize efficiency - equity in order to maximize productivity - meaning in order to maximize effectiveness - democracy in order to maximize agility - peace in order to maximize evolvability These new business ideals focus on the human element - not profit exclusively - and are easily tailored for any size or type of business, as long as they are willing to make bold and sustained changes to the current system.
Book Synopsis Against the State by : Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr.
Download or read book Against the State written by Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr. and published by Rockwell Communications LLC. This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the State: An Anarcho-Capitalist Manifesto diagnoses what is wrong with the American political system and tells us what we need to fix things. The cure is a radical one because, as the book incontrovertibly shows, the many problems that confront us today are no accident. They stem from the nature of government itself. Only peaceful cooperation based on the free market can rescue us from our present plight. Against the State is written by Lew Rockwell, the founder of the Mises Institute and LewRockwell.com, and the closest friend and associate of Murray Rothbard, the leading theorist of anarcho-capitalism. Rockwell applies Rothbard’s combination of individualist anarchism and Austrian economics to contemporary America. The book shows how the government is based on war, both against foreign nations and against the American people themselves, through massive invasions of our liberties. Fueled by an out-of-control banking system, the American State has become in essence fascist. We cannot escape our predicament through limited government: the government is incapable of controlling itself. Only a purely private social order can save us, and Rockwell succinctly sets out how an anarcho-capitalist order would work.
Book Synopsis The Capitalist Manifesto by : Louis O. Kelso
Download or read book The Capitalist Manifesto written by Louis O. Kelso and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1956, a U.S. lawyer-economist, Louis O. Kelso, created the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) to enable the employees of a closely held newspaper chain to buy out its retiring owners. Two years later, Kelso and his co-author, the philosopher Mortimer J. Adler, explained the macro-economic theory on which the ESOP is based in this best-selling book, The Capitalist Manifesto. “When you read this book, you must be prepared for a shock—particularly if you are among the millions of Americans who feel complacent about the material well-being that now prevails in this country. THE CAPITALIST MANIFESTO will compel you to examine, reconsider and question many dangerous economic factors and political tendencies you have accepted as inevitable—and will show you how you can do something about them. “THE CAPITALIST MANIFESTO sets the alarm for all American citizens—not simply one group or class. It is for stockholders, workers, labor leaders, corporation executives, investment bankers, taxpayers, small businessmen and industrialists, statesmen, legislators, judges and educators. Its purpose is to arouse us to the real and present dangers we now face, from inflation and from the progressive socialization of our economy. What is the difference between a well-heeled existence in a welfare state and the good life in a free society? THE CAPITALIST MANIFESTO will tell you what that difference is, and why you must be a man of property in order to be a free man. It will explain the meaning of your ever-expanding opportunities for leisure. It will tell you that the goal of an industrial society should not be full employment in the production of wealth, but full enjoyment of the wealth produced. It will tell you how you, as an individual, can best use wealth to further the happiness and well-being of yourself and your fellow men.” “A revolutionary force in human affairs offering still unplumbed promise for the future....”—Time Magazine

Book Synopsis The Enlightened Capitalism Manifesto by : Henry B. Zimmer
Download or read book The Enlightened Capitalism Manifesto written by Henry B. Zimmer and published by Henry B Zimmer. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everywhere one looks, there is criticism surrounding political corruption, the millions of jobs that have been lost to offshore countries, the arrogance of the bankers who almost brought our country to its knees and the dichotomy between the very rich and the very poor. America is on the verge of instituting a healthcare system that I believe is totally unworkable. Our education system is outdated and inefficient. The most important subject- the basics of proper financial awareness and planning- is not taught in schools. Contentious issues such as gun control, abortion, and gay rights continue to be debated without resolution and our dysfunctional political situation reflects the irreconcilable polarization between Democrats and Republicans. So far, no one has compiled an unbiased and cohesive set of recommendations designed to resolve all these problems while also allowing the public at large to voice their opinions by voting online in support of or against these recommendations. This is what I have done. My entire "platform" is based on the concept of Enlightened Capitalism, which equates with the need for social responsibility. My goal is to curtail the Unbridled Capitalism that is the norm today. I certainly do NOT advocate Communism. All I seek to do is to create a level playing field for all Americans. At the end of each chapter, there are survey questions for readers to consider. After they have finished reading the book, they will be able to access my website www.enlightenedcapitalism.us and take the entire poll (which consists of 114 questions) by voting online. Readers will also be able to view the cumulative survey results at any time thereafter on demand. Using the "comments" feature, they will be able to record their own opinions and dialogue with other readers. I invite you to visit my website since it is integral to the success of this project. You will find some of my recommendations extremely controversial, but I believe everything I propose is doable. Some Constitutional changes may be required, but there are many precedents for amendments. My premise is that Unbridled Capitalism (as we know it in the U.S.) is obsolete and that our political system is broken as a result of corruption and the polarization of our major political parties. I believe that embracing the Doctrine of Enlightened Capitalism will solve most of our problems and restore the United States to its former greatness. In just a few words, the adoption of a framework of Enlightened Capitalism requires adherence to the concept of social responsibility because a system that embraces social responsibility does not just favor the very wealthy or the nation's political leaders. An effective capitalistic system requires the participation of every American who believes he or she is a stakeholder in setting the future course of our country.

Book excerpt: “If you are curious and open to the life around you, if you are troubled as to why, how and by whom political power is held and used, if you sense there must be good intellectual reasons for your unease, if your curiosity and openness drive you toward wishing to act with others, to ‘do something,’ you already have much in common with the writers of the three essays in this book.” — Adrienne Rich With a preface by Adrienne Rich, Manifesto presents the radical vision of four famous young rebels: Marx and Engels’ Communist Manifesto, Rosa Luxemburg’s Reform or Revolution and Che Guevara’s Socialism and Humanity.
Book Synopsis Capitalism, For and Against by : Ann E. Cudd
Download or read book Capitalism, For and Against written by Ann E. Cudd and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political philosophy and feminist theory have rarely examined in detail how capitalism affects the lives of women. Ann Cudd and Nancy Holmstrom take up opposing sides of the issue, debating whether capitalism is valuable as an ideal and whether as an actually existing economic system it is good for women. In a discussion covering a broad range of social and economic issues, including unequal pay, industrial reforms and sweatshops, they examine how these and other issues relate to women and how effectively to analyze what constitutes 'capitalism' and 'women's interests'. Each author also responds to the opposing arguments, providing a thorough debate of the topics covered. The resulting volume will interest a wide range of readers in philosophy, political theory, women's studies and global affairs.

Download or read book Fully Automated Luxury Communism written by Aaron Bastani and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2019-06-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first decade of the twenty-first century marked the demise of the current world order. Despite widespread acknowledgement of these disruptive crises, the proposed response from the mainstream remains the same. Against the confines of this increasingly limited politics, a new paradigm has emerged. Fully Automated Luxury Communism claims that new technologies will liberate us from work, providing the opportunity to build a society beyond both capitalism and scarcity. Automation, rather than undermining an economy built on full employment, is instead the path to a world of liberty, luxury and happiness. For everyone. In his first book, radical political commentator Aaron Bastani conjures a new politics: a vision of a world of unimaginable hope, highlighting how we move to energy abundance, feed a world of nine billion, overcome work, transcend the limits of biology and build meaningful freedom for everyone. Rather than a final destination, such a society heralds the beginning of history. Fully Automated Luxury Communism promises a radically new left future for everyone.

Book Synopsis 23 Things They Don't Tell You about Capitalism by : Ha-Joon Chang
Download or read book 23 Things They Don't Tell You about Capitalism written by Ha-Joon Chang and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-01-02 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER "For anyone who wants to understand capitalism not as economists or politicians have pictured it but as it actually operates, this book will be invaluable."-Observer (UK) If you've wondered how we did not see the economic collapse coming, Ha-Joon Chang knows the answer: We didn't ask what they didn't tell us about capitalism. This is a lighthearted book with a serious purpose: to question the assumptions behind the dogma and sheer hype that the dominant school of neoliberal economists-the apostles of the freemarket-have spun since the Age of Reagan. Chang, the author of the international bestseller Bad Samaritans, is one of the world's most respected economists, a voice of sanity-and wit-in the tradition of John Kenneth Galbraith and Joseph Stiglitz. 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism equips readers with an understanding of how global capitalism works-and doesn't. In his final chapter, "How to Rebuild the World," Chang offers a vision of how we can shape capitalism to humane ends, instead of becoming slaves of the market.
