Book excerpt: Year after year, this book has immensely helped students in their comprehension of the subject and score good marks in examinations. It has been written specifically for the prescribed syllabus of Cost Accounting Paper of BCom (Hons) Semester IV of the University of Delhi and of School of Open Learning. Its basic features are the same as the mother book Cost Accounting—Principles and Practice, which is a UGC-recommended text for the last many years. Thus, it gives a thorough grounding in cost concepts, cost behaviour, and costing methods. The subject matter has been organized on ‘first things first’ basis to sustain the interest of the students. Every discussion involving conceptual difficulties is immediately followed by a numerical example.
Book Synopsis Realistic Cost Estimating for Manufacturing, 3rd Edition by : Michael Lembersky
Download or read book Realistic Cost Estimating for Manufacturing, 3rd Edition written by Michael Lembersky and published by SME. This book was released on 2016-01-04 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most effective way to generate an estimate of a new product’s cost engineering change cost, or innovation cost is through a detailed cost investigation. Analysis of the available materials and processes leads to the most economical and financial decisions. Now in its third edition, Realistic Cost Estimating for Manufacturing has been used by students and practitioners since 1968 in this endeavor. Revised and expanded, the book recognizes the extremely important role estimating is playing in today’s highly competitive global economy. Realistic Cost Estimating for Manufacturing provides a survey of the myriad manufacturing processes and practices and combines this with in-depth explanations and examples of costing methods and tools. A comprehensive, standardized approach to their application is given. Among the manufacturing processes surveyed are: machining, casting, stamping, forging, welding, plastics technology, finishing, and rapid prototyping. To develop realistic baseline estimates, an engineering or costing professional must have an in-depth understanding of costing methods and techniques. As a fundamental reference, the book provides insight into the art, science, and functions of cost estimation in a wide range of activities: product design and manufacturing, engineering change control, proposal development, make or buy studies, identifying cost reduction opportunities, component costing, reverse engineering, benchmarking, and examining alternative processes, materials, machines, and tooling. As examples, it will aid the practitioner in efforts to justify the replacement or improvement of existing technology with new creative solutions; perform a feasibility study; develop a basis for cost-oriented decision support; improve supply chain evaluation and sourcing analysis; and minimize costs. The third edition has been greatly enhanced with new chapters and material dedicated to the roles of economics and finance, cost reduction, continuous improvement, plastic parts, electronics cost estimating, costing studies, advanced manufacturing processes, and quality costs. Further, the existing chapters have been significantly expanded to include new processes and operations and examples to enhance learning. Since nontraditional technology is widely applied in manufacturing, its costing aspects are also explored. Five Appendices provide additional information on productivity based on efficiency, cost reduction, matching part features to manufacturing processes, packaging cost, and inspection and measurement costs. As with its previous editions, instructors of cost estimating courses can rely on the book to provide a solid foundation for manufacturing engineering courses and programs of study. The book is also useful for on-the-job training courses for engineers, managers, estimators, designers, and practitioners. It can be applied in seminars and workshops specifically dedicated to product or component cost reduction, alternative cost analysis, engineering change cost control, or proposal development. As in the previous editions, there are multiple equations and calculation examples, as well as end-of-chapter questions to test student’s knowledge. An instructor’s guide is also available.
Book Synopsis Cost Management by : Leslie G. Eldenburg
Download or read book Cost Management written by Leslie G. Eldenburg and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-28 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cost Management: Measuring, Monitoring, and Motivating Performance, Third Canadian Edition was written to help students learn to appropriately apply cost accounting methods in a variety of organizational settings. To achieve this goal, students must also develop professional competencies, such as strategic/critical thinking, risk analysis, decision making, ethical reasoning and communication. This is in line with the CPA curriculum and the content of this edition and the problem materials is mapped to the CPA. Many students fail to recognize the assumptions, limitations, behavioural implications, and qualitative factors that influence managerial decision making. The textbook is written in an engaging step-by-step style that is accessible to students. The authors are proactive about addressing the challenges that instructors and students face in their teaching and learning endeavors. They utilize features such as realistic examples, real ethical dilemmas, self-study problems and unique problem material structured to encourage students to think about accounting problems and problem-solving more complexly.

Download or read book Lease or Purchase written by A.C.C. Herst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leasing of capital assets has become an important financing method, not only in the United States but in most West European countries as well. As a result, more and more often, practitioners and theorists are confronted with the lease-or-purchase issue. It may be rather difficult, however, to resolve this issue since there is a multitude of lease-or-purchase models that vary widely in assumed initial conditions, form, and content. In this book, I review and evaluate a number of these models, paying attention to financial leases as well as to operating leases. The models will be analyzed verbally, by means of a numerical example and utilizing uniform mathematical nota tion. After having discussed the theoretical achievements in this area, I investigate the reasons why preference is given to leasing in real-world situa tions and then look into any differences in legal provisions, income tax systems, and accounting regulations in various countries as they may affect the leasing of capital assets. Consequently, I feel that this book is a helpful instrument for both theorists and practitioners confronted with the lease-or purchase decision. Many people made valuable contributions toward developing this book, among others my colleagues of the Department of Business Finance of Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Besides, I am especially indebted to Pro fessor Dr. A. I. Diepenhorst for his advice and suggestions, to an anonymous reviewer for helpful comments, and to Mrs. M. Leutscher-Van den Berg for her patient help in preparing the various versions of the manuscript.
