Book excerpt: Humanity has sought identification of self through the guise of the ego yet not fully understanding its placement. Our ego, the identity of oneself, has been believed to be the desire for outer acceptance validating its own worth. The ego is our shadow self and can been seen as the mirror reflection in ourselves and others. Who are you without your ego? What masks do you require to hide your true, authentic self? What can you say about yourself? Do you know who you are and what you represent? Can you identify with whom you project out into the world? Are you aware that your ego has manipulated who and what you've identified about yourself in conjunction as the illusion? Humanity is undergoing a spiritual evolution where every human being is responsible for their own soul's evolution. Humans must realize that to remain of this world, we must ascend to a higher consciousness and enlightenment, becoming the dictator of our own lives, a knowing. Are you willing to delve into the hidden aspects of yourself by going on a treasure quest that will guide you back to your natural state of truth? Truth is at the heart of the matter, the one, beloved. What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DescriptionIt is three years since the death of my grandfather. You could say that he was beaten by cancer, although in my heart, knowing how he suffered throughout his life with mania, I couldn't say who won. I often consider whether he is now happier, free from the constraints of a 'socially unacceptable' illness. People who suffer from depression should pull themselves together- right? It is understandable why some people think like this- doesn't everyone suffer from depression? When I tell people that my grandfather suffered from manic depression, they often look at me with a misguided, knowing look; "ah yes" they think, "I've felt sad sometimes." This is the point when I get the desire to shake them until their eyes fall out! If I'm honest, I cannot possibly comprehend how it must have been for him. Some days he would wake up and the world was so grey - black even- that the idea of plummeting hundreds of feet from a multi-story car park was preferable to being alive. Other days, I remember him frantically writing, drawing, possessed by a passion for a new plan; it could be anything, my Nan, Brother and I were often guests at our own family 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'. My Granddad created Brain Clubs, Mind Map Clubs, Writing Clubs; I remember all of us sitting around the dining room table, surrounded by masses of multi-coloured stationary, my Granddad excitedly waving his arms causing wind to flutter his wispy silver hair. The 'The Ego Has Landed' is about my Grandfather's courageous battle with life; from being given the name of his 'mental illness' to his journey with cancer. He was an inspirational, passionate man. I really miss you Birty, but I hope you're there when I graduate! Charlotte Easter

Book excerpt: An engaging, inspirational memoir that takes readers on a soul-searching journey toward heart-consciousness and spiritual authenticity Ever since childhood, Jeff Brown did all the things he was supposed to do to become successful in the eyes of the world. He was on the Dean’s Honor List as an undergraduate. He won the Law and Medicine prize in law school and apprenticed with a top criminal lawyer. It had been Brown’s lifelong dream to practice criminal law and search for the truth in the courtroom. But then, on the verge of opening a law practice, he heard a little voice inside telling him to stop, just stop. With great difficulty, he honored this voice and began a heartfelt quest for the truth that lived within him. Although he didn’t realize it at the time, Brown was actually questing for his innate image, the essential being that he came into this lifetime to embody. He was searching for his authentic face. By going inside and connecting his spirituality with his emotional life, he learned essential lessons. By learning to surrender to the "School of Heart Knocks"—the school of life—the found his authentic face and embraced the call to write. Soulshaping is an inspiring memoir for anyone who has heard a whisper of something truer calling out to them amid the distractions of modern life. Jeff’s dramatic and often funny story takes readers through remarkably human experiences—emotional, physical, and economic—as he vividly recounts his journey to discover his soul’s purpose. A work of courageous self-creation, Soulshaping reminds us that we are all truly connected, that our seemingly isolated struggles are actually part of the shared human challenge to live a life that is heart-centered and soul-driven.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KOKOMO KID Still Has Something to Say ~ THE SEQUEL is from the same writer who authored KOKOMO KID ~ Reflections of Growing Up in Indiana’s City of Firsts. Cheryl Soden Moreland’s second book is a continuation of growing up not only in Kokomo with her grandparents as guardians but also delves more into the childhood visits she had with her parents and siblings in Indianapolis’ historic and popular Fountain Square neighborhood. Cheryl gives glimpses into the personalities of those she grew up with while telling of the places she frequented in Indiana’s capital city, along with her experiences of sharing her days and nights with those closest to her. This book is intended for anyone who has ever been a child; for anyone who has made memories during their childhood. That would include just about all of us. Whether the moments we have created and recall are ones we cherish or would soon rather forget, this book might help you to revive some of those beloved memories held deep which may have been lost in time and place. You may be able to relive some of your own past that was forgotten, holding close the best of moments while overlooking, even letting go of, the worst of times. It is in the understanding and ability to empathize with not only those who came before us decades ago who had our best interests in mind and heart, but also to come to terms with ourselves and how we perceive the child we were yesterday to the adult we have become today. No matter how many lemons we have been dealt with while growing up, just take them and turn them into pitchers of lemonade. Extract the sweetness from your life by adding your own sugar to the sour. Make it palatable. That is what this author has done, showing how life – even with all its ups and downs and sometimes wild roller coaster rides – is still a pretty good gig. It’s not always wrapped tightly and neatly with a big beautiful bow, so it is up to each of us to make our little world what we want it to be. Continue walking along that sometimes crooked yellow brick road to find the life that has been paved just for you. An excerpt from between these covers.... I looked over at the front yard and suddenly felt like I was in a dream, experiencing a replay of a piece of my past that created smiles and tears at the same time. I was “seeing” Baby Brother, having died just four months before Daddy, running around the side of the house to the backyard, with his toy gun in hand, either chasing me or being chased by me. I heard our screams and laughter, while seeing Lil Sis and my other brother playing outside, too, with Big Sis sitting on the front porch with Mom and Dad. I felt all was well as it was before, or as any child could imagine their life to be at that innocent stage, with everyone happy and healthy in their youth with so much life to look forward to.

Broke: A Poker Novel follows the lives of three talented, young poker players as they chase fame and fortune in a world fraught with addiction. Raf Verheij is a twenty-five-year-old match prodigy who likes to think that his current situation is unique: poker pulled him out of a deep hole instead of leading him into one. Robert Thompson is a player who has an almost supernatural ability-reading opponents' hands by taking cues from their body language-and a huge gambling problem. And finally, there's Matt Ingram, a grinder with a penchant for all things self-destructive. It's a world where the individual has to worry less about the problems that others will cause him than the problems that he will cause for himself. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Razzaque explores an entirely new way of understanding psychological and mental distress based on clinical case studies from a mental hospital. His extraordinary conclusion: mental illness can be a form of spiritual awakening. The book describes new forms of treatment for mental illness inspired by Eastern approaches and centering, in particular, around practices such as mindfulness and meditation. These therapies offer both patients and their families the inspiring idea that the approach to their psychological difficulties should go beyond just "treating" episodes of mental illness but also, where possible, help the individual to complete the process of spiritual growth they have begun. Dr Razzaque argues passionately that our society as a whole could benefit from developing an awareness of the spiritual power of this process of transformation. Written in the tradition of the bestselling medical doctors, Stanford's Irvin D. Yalom and Britain's Oliver Sacks, Breaking Down is Waking Up, will speak to both professionals in the field of mental health as well as those suffering from mental illness, their family and friends and, indeed, all those who have an interest in exploring the deepest layers of what it really means to be human.

In this award-winning book, Shawn Taylor deftly leads us on a no-holds-barred tour of his masculine development, acknowledging some deep but often hilarious truths about black men. This raw and spellbinding narrative, full of unexpected turns of phrase and shocking displays of vulnerability, contains powerful meditations on sexuality, romance, fatherhood, and violence.
