Book Synopsis The Economic Effects of Environmental Expenditures on the Construction Industry by : James Jondrow
Download or read book The Economic Effects of Environmental Expenditures on the Construction Industry written by James Jondrow and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1978 and 1985, municipal governments and private industry will spend about $111 billion dollars on construction of new facilities to reduce air and water pollution as mandated by the EPA. This report presents estimates of how these projected expenditures will affect the total level of construction and how employment, wages, interest rates, and other variables will respond to the change in construction output. Effects on employment in selected sub-classes of the construction industry were also estimated. The response of the construction industry to increased spending for pollution control was estimated by use of an econometric model of the industry. The model, developed for this study, was simulated to predict the effects of projected spending through 1985. The results suggest that construction output will rise by less than the EPA mandated expenditure. The difference is due, in part, to displacement of spending that local governments would otherwise have done and, in part, to absorption of the increase by rising wages and prices in construction. There is also some displacement of industrial expenditures for pollution abatement because of the increased cost of building a new plant. The results also suggest that employment in the construction industry is increased. Employment of young, black, inexperienced workers increases more than would be expected based on their representation in the construction labor force. (Author).
Book Synopsis Energy Policy Instruments and Technical Change in the Residential Building Sector by : Milou Beerepoot
Download or read book Energy Policy Instruments and Technical Change in the Residential Building Sector written by Milou Beerepoot and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy performance policy in the building sector - such as is described by EU Directive known as EPBD - has the aim of reducing energy consumption in buildings. This title contributes to knowledge about the content of energy performance policy and concludes that the effect of energy performance policy in encouraging innovation is limited.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new and enhanced edition of the popular textbook on research methods in construction and related disciplines Research Methods for Construction is designed to help construction students develop the research skills needed to achieve success in their research projects. Providing clear guidance on research formulation, methodologies, and methods, this comprehensive textbook addresses the theoretical, philosophical, and practical aspects of research in many areas of construction. The authors explain the requirements for data and analysis and describe the methods used for scientific and engineering experiments, modelling and simulations, research on management and socio-economic issues, and more. Now in its fifth edition, Research Methods for Construction is fully revised to reflect contemporary developments and emerging areas of construction research. New and expanded chapters cover topics including data protection and ethics, theory borrowing, sensemaking, and directionally motivated reasoning. This edition includes additional models and details relating to translation, and offers fresh discussion of axiology, determinism, and stochasticism. Providing students with coherent, well-structured account of construction research, this market-leading textbook: Emphasizes and instils rigor into construction students' problem-solving, reports, and publications Assists researchers in selecting appropriate methods to execute research Articulates the stages of construction research processes: producing a proposal, executing the research, and reporting the results Examines qualitative and quantitative approaches and statistical considerations for a wide range of construction research Discusses current ethical, legal, and regulatory issues pertaining to research in construction The fifth edition of Research Methods for Construction is the ideal textbook for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students embarking on a research project, at bachelors, masters or doctoral level, in construction, surveying, architecture, civil engineering, and other built environment disciplines.

Book Synopsis The Routledge Handbook of Embodied Carbon in the Built Environment by : Rahman Azari
Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Embodied Carbon in the Built Environment written by Rahman Azari and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook explores the critically important topic of embodied carbon, providing advanced insights that focus on measuring and reducing embodied carbon from across the built environment, including buildings, urban areas and cities, and construction materials and components. Split into five distinct sections, international experts, researchers, and professionals present the recent developments in the field of embodied carbon from various perspectives and at different scales of material, building, and city. Following an introduction to the embodied carbon question, the chapters in Section 1 then cover the key debates around issues such as the politics of embodied carbon, links between embodied carbon and thermal mass, and the misuse of carbon offsets. Section 2 reviews the embodied carbon policies in a selected number of countries. Sections 3, 4, and 5 approach the topic of embodied carbon from urban-, building-, and material-scale perspectives, respectively, and use case studies to demonstrate estimation techniques and present opportunities and challenges in embodied carbon mitigation. This will be important reading for upper-level students and researchers in Architecture, Urban Planning, Engineering, and Construction disciplines. Presenting case studies of embodied carbon assessment, this book will also help practicing architects, engineers, and urban planners understand embodied carbon estimation techniques and different mitigation strategies.
