Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if the implementation of an effective read-aloud program would result in a positive difference in the performance of the experimental group on a listening test. The tools used to collect data included a pre/posttest survey to determine the change in attitude toward reading after being in a designated read aloud program. A pre/posttest from Scott Foresman Listening Sat-9 Practice Test was used to collect the listening comprehension data. The results were analyzed using a t test for independent samples. There was no significant difference found between the experimental and control groups. A t test was used to determine if there was a significant positive difference in the attitudes of students to read-aloud in a structured read-aloud program and the attitudes of those not taught in a specifically designed read-aloud program. Post surveys provided information to support attitude improvement for the experimental group.
