This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduation from the status of least-developed country (LDC) marks an important milestone in the development path of each LDC. However, the phasing-out of international support measures associated with LDC status could present challenges for graduating LDCs in their efforts to continue to integrate into the global economy. This report examines the implications of graduation in terms of LDCs' participation in the multilateral trading system, market access opportunities and development assistance. The impact of graduation will vary for each LDC depending on factors such as export structure, use of preferential treatment, and their terms of entry into the WTO. In addition, although a quarter of LDCs were on track to graduate from LDC status prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic dislocation resulting from the pandemic threatens to delay graduation for some countries. The analysis in this report focuses on how graduation will affect LDCs' trade relations, whether that graduation happens as planned or at a later date. Trade remains key to helping LDCs to increase incomes and maintain growth, and the report sheds light on potential support measures that graduating LDCs can explore, in cooperation with their trading partners and the broader international development community, in order to achieve sustainable graduation. Complementary to the first report published in June 2020 this second report examines in greater detail the impact of graduation on preferential market access for each of the 12 graduating LDCs. Co-published in August 2020 by the World Trade Organization and Enhanced Integrated Framework.

This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ambitious in nature, the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) adopted by the Fourth United Nations Conference on the LDCs (UN LDC IV) in 2011, sets out a development path for LDCs for the coming decade. Successful implementation of the IPoA requires identification of delivery tools for specific targets, provision of necessary financial and non-financial resources, and a strengthened monitoring mechanism. LDC IV Monitor, an independent partnership of eight interested organisations, aims to add value by enhancing transparency, accountability and efficiency of the official monitoring and review mechanism of the IPoA. LDC IV Monitor’s first set of two reports, produced outside of the official intergovernmental process, provide credible, evidence-based and policy-oriented assessment of the delivery status of the promises contained in the IPoA. The Synthesis Report, derived from the critical analyses of the state of play concerning the IPoA, presents the broad messages and key recommendations. The volume on Analytical Perspectives addresses a wide spectrum of issues including articulation of a composite IPoA index, building of productive capacity, trade in goods and services, delivery of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), flows of different forms of development finance, and consequences of climate change. The publications seek to contribute towards crafting national and international policies to support graduation of the LDCs through structural transformation of their economies.

Download or read book Making Global Trade Governance Work for Development written by Carolyn Deere Birkbeck and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-08-18 with total page 711 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussion of the governance of global trade and the multilateral trading system is too often dominated by developed-country scholars and opinion-makers, with inadequate attention given to developing country perspectives. Making Global Trade Governance Work for Development gathers a diversity of developing country views on how to improve the governance of global trade and the WTO to better advance sustainable development and respond to the needs of developing countries. With contributions by senior scholars, commentators and practitioners, the essays combine new, empirically-grounded research with practical insights about the trade policy-making process. They consider the specific governance issues of interest to developing countries and acknowledge the changing dynamics in the global economy and in trade decision-making.

Download or read book Case Studies in Food Policy for Developing Countries written by Per Pinstrup-Andersen and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The food problems now facing the world—scarcity and starvation, contamination and illness, overabundance and obesity—are both diverse and complex. What are their causes? How severe are they? Why do they persist? What are the solutions? In three volumes that serve as valuable teaching tools and have been designed to complement the textbook Food Policy for Developing Countries by Per Pinstrup-Andersen and Derrill D. Watson II, they call upon the wisdom of disciplines including economics, nutrition, sociology, anthropology, environmental science, medicine, and geography to create a holistic picture of the state of the world's food systems today. Volume III of the Case Studies addresses global institutions and international trade policies.
