Book Synopsis Reproductive Performance of Turkey Breeders as Influenced by Feed and Light Restriction by : Kenneth Kay Krueger
Download or read book Reproductive Performance of Turkey Breeders as Influenced by Feed and Light Restriction written by Kenneth Kay Krueger and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Restricting day length or feed consumption in winter-hatched Broad Breasted White turkeys were studied for their effects on reproductive performance. Turkey males were either full-fed and received 15, 12 or 8 hours of light per day or restricted-fed and received 15 hours of light per day from 18 through 64 weeks of age. Dark-housed (8 hours of light per day) turkey breeder hens were either full-fed or restricted-fed from 22 to 30 weeks of age. At lighting (30 weeks of age) the full-fed and restricted=fed hen groups were randomly divided and full-fed either 14% or 18% protein diets through 20 weeks of egg production. Turkey males exposed to an 8 hour day produced semen with significantly (P (less than or equal to) 0.05) higher sperm cell concentration over a 30 week collection period than did males receiving 15 hours of light per day. A significant decline in semen volume occurred in full-fed turkey males receiving 15 hours of light per day while full-fed males exposed to 12 or 8 hours of light per day produced increasing semen volumes over the collection period. Mechanically restricting daily feed consumption by approximately 50% (as compared to full-fed males) in turkey males from 18 through 64weeks of age resulted in a 30% reduction in body weight. Restricted-fed males produced increasing semen volume over a 30 week collection period with significantly (P (less than or equal to) 0.05) higher sperm cell concentrations than males full-fed and receiving 15 hours of light per day. Fertility over a 20 week egg production period was significantly higher (P (less than or equal to) 0.05) for restricted-fed males receiving 15 hours of light per day than for full-fed males receiving 15, 12 or 8 hours of light per day. Data presented suggests that the seasonal decline in semen quantity and quality in off-season turkey breeder males may be prevented through the use of feed or light restriction.

Book Synopsis The Effects of Low Protein Diets with Varying Levels of Dietary Energy and Triticale (var: Flora) on the Reproductive Performance of Medium White Turkey Breeder Toms by : Amir H. Nilipour
Download or read book The Effects of Low Protein Diets with Varying Levels of Dietary Energy and Triticale (var: Flora) on the Reproductive Performance of Medium White Turkey Breeder Toms written by Amir H. Nilipour and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were conducted to determine if a new variety of triticale (Flora) would maintain seminal production of Medium White (MW) breeder toms and to ascertain the minimal dietary crude protein (CP) required by breeder toms. In Experiment 1, 4 dietary treatments with 10 males each, were fed ad libitum from 28 to 45 weeks of age (WOA). The diets consisted of 13.9% CP corn-soy (C-S), 13.8% CP triticale-S (T-S), 8.5 and 5.6% CP (T) with 3139, 2898, 3042, and 2001 kilocalories (kcal) of metabolizable energy (ME), respectively. In Experiment 2, 49 toms were fed from 30 to 46 WOA, diets containing 13.9% CP (C-S), 9.4% CP (T-S), and 7, 5.7 and 3.2% CP (T) diets with 3139, 2981, 2557, 2145, and 1320 kcal ME/kg, respectively. In Experiment 3, 39 toms were fed ad libitum from 30 to 54 WOA, one of four diets containing 14% CP with 2892 kcal ME/kg (14%-2892 ME); 7% CP with 2919 kcal ME/kg (7%-2919 ME); 7% CP with 2719 kcal ME/kg (7%-2719 ME); and 7% CP with 2539 kcal ME/kg (7%-2539 ME). In Experiment 1, no differences were observed among the dietary treatments for semen volume (SV) and sperm cell concentration (SCC). In Experiment 2, packed sperm cell volume (PSCV) and SCC for the 3.2% CP diet were significantly lower (P

Book Synopsis Nutrient Requirements of Poultry by : National Research Council
Download or read book Nutrient Requirements of Poultry written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-02-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic reference for poultry nutrition has been updated for the first time since 1984. The chapter on general considerations concerning individual nutrients and water has been greatly expanded and includes, for the first time, equations for predicting the energy value of individual feed ingredients from their proximate composition. This volume includes the latest information on the nutrient requirements of meat- and egg-type chickens, incorporating data on brown-egg strains, turkeys, geese, ducks, pheasants, Japanese quail, and Bobwhite quail. This publication also contains new appendix tables that document in detail the scientific information used to derive the nutrient requirements appearing in the summary tables for each species of bird.
