During the 1996 European championships, a gymnast shook his head almost imperceptibly, closed his eyes briefly and left the arena without looking up. He was fatigue personified. Both of these issues were addressed by the invention of functional kinesiology. Kinesiology is the application of the sciences of biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, psychology, and neuroscience to the study of human and animal movement, performance, and function. It examines the mechanisms behind both human and animal movement, with particular attention to the roles played by the skeletal, joint, and muscular systems. Moreover, a foundation and practitioner training pathway is provided by functional kinesiology. The foundation training employs Kinesiology muscle monitoring and the concepts to evaluate the body's energy systems and rebalance them with safe and effective physical, electrical, emotional, and dietary procedures. Sports practice has health benefits in youth and adulthood. Functional kinesiology is about combining the techniques of kinesiology with cutting-edge research in functional nutrition and functional medicine. This method tries to work with the six pillars mentioned above for people to regain their health fully. Among them are diet, adrenals and stress, sex hormones, digestion, and immune and emotional transformation. Given the growing participation of athletes in team and individual sports worldwide, it is necessary to analyze the effect of kinesiology protocols on health and performance. To push forward innovative approaches, this Special Issue calls for original articles, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses that may substantially contribute to data analysis related to functional kinesiology, performance and health. This Research Topic pursues the following goals explicitly: Review of studies related to functional kinesiology of athletes in teenagers and adults. Review of studies on how athletes achieve better health or performance. Review of studies on the quality of training load with bio-motor ability and wellness variables.

Book excerpt: Biomechanical performance is a key to evaluating effectiveness in physical medicine and rehabilitation for neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Assessments can be applied to degenerative dysfunction (e.g., falls or knee osteoarthritis in older adults) and sports-related injuries (e.g., ankle sprain or anterior cruciate ligament injury). Patients' body movements and daily activity functions can be compared to the state of pre-injury condition or to the level of healthy individuals. Some cutting-edge studies have gone a step further and used biomechanical performance to develop physical medicine and rehabilitation approaches and explore the mechanisms behind their effectiveness. However, such studies are still relatively rare. This research topic is intended to encourage more relevant projects to be published. This research topic aims to encourage researchers to use biomechanical performance to design advanced physical medicine and rehabilitation approaches, evaluate the effectiveness of the rehabilitation approaches, and explore the mechanisms by which rehabilitation approaches work for neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Some studies have developed stretching approaches for the rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis in older adults by measuring biomechanical performance during functional activities. Some studies indicated that the mechanism of physical activity to reduce falls in older adults lies in its effectiveness in increasing proprioceptive sensitivity, and further indicated that rehabilitation of proprioception may be a key to reducing falls in the fall-prone older adult population. Some other studies analyzed biomechanical performance in ankle ligament injuries to understand when, how, and why ligaments fail. As a result, this research topic will expand the application of biomechanical performance to better understand and treat neuromusculoskeletal disorders.

It is often compared with the hand is tactile grasping organ, whereas the functions of the foot are support and locomotion. The arches of the foot are the longitudinal and the transverse, on the medial side of the foot, a longitudinal arch is formed by the calcareous, talus, navicular, cuneiforms, and the first three metatarsal. On the lateral side of the foot, a longitudinal arch is formed by the calcaneus, cuboid and the lateral two metatarsals. The transverse or metatarsal arch is formed by the navicular, cuneiforms, and cuboids together with five metatarsals. These bony arches, which are the result of the intrinsic mechanical arrangement of the bones, are supported by ligaments. During movement, they receive additional support from muscles, chiefly from those that invert and Evert the foot. The 26 bones composing the skeleton of the foot are primarily structured for strong, flexible, co-ordinate movement. Architecturally the foot forms an anterior metatarsal arch, an outer longitudinal arch and the high inner longitudinal arch on its medial aspect. The main function of the arch is to absorb the shock of eight. Bearing and to allow space for planter muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Body weight is conducted to the foot via the leg bone of the through the supporting bone the talus. A mortise is formed by the mall oil of the fibula and the talus below the talus is the calcimines. The foot makes surface contact with the calcaneus and the metatarsal heads, an intricate system of planter muscles and elastic and arched of the foot. Additional support is afforded by a suspension of muscles stemming from the leg and ending with in the longitudinal arch, Dorsiflexion together with planter ankle flexion, is permitted at the talotibial, together, with planter ankle flexion, is permitted at the taloctibial articulation, whereas inversion and version of the foot take place at the talocalcaneal and intertarsal joints.
