Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effect of leadership on organizational outcomes and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret leadership literature and suggest new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the editors compile various studies examining the relationship between the leadership and thirteen organizational outcomes separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

Book excerpt: OCB ordinarily alludes to practices that decidedly affect the association or its individuals (Poncheri, 2006). OCB can be influenced by imparting in workers an impression of skill in their activity undertakings (Todd, 2003). Bateman and Organ (1983) proposed a noteworthy and solid connection between organizational citizenship conduct and job satisfaction. Bateman and Organ (1983) proposed a critical and strong association between organizational citizenship and occupation fulfillment. Employment fulfillment has been found to have a positive association with work execution and organizational citizenship. The purpose of the present examination was to research if CWB could be gone with moderately high work fulfillment. The present study is undertaken to study if there is a significant moderating effect of CWB on the relationship between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Citizenship Behaviour. CWB is prejudicious to the organization or to co-workers. The Organizations ought to enhance the spontaneous organizational citizenship behaviors of workers to extend satisfaction and, hence, to extend the competitiveness within the organization. The survey results disclosed that job satisfaction encompasses an important positive impact on organizational citizenship behaviour which counterwork productive behaviour encompasses a important negative dampening impact on the link between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behaviours. The organizations will improve the work satisfaction of their workers by rising perceived operating satisfaction, social satisfaction, and remunerative satisfaction, which might then improve the organizational citizenship behaviours and reduce the negative impact of counterwork productive behaviour.

However, many newly introduced organizational constructs that have the characteristics of an occupational stressor have rarely been studied as such, especially from a within-person perspective. The current study focused on three occupational stressors in relation to safety performance. Based on previous literature, I proposed that within individuals, compulsory citizenship behavior, illegitimate tasks, and interpersonal conflict at work as occupational stressors would have negative effects on employees well-being and safety performance through negative emotions (anger), job attitudes (job satisfaction and organizational commitment) and role stressors (role conflict and role ambiguity). In addition, reception of organizational citizenship behavior (ROCB) and perceived safety climate were hypothesized to moderate the relationships of the three occupational stressors with safety performance and employee well-being. Seventy-one nurses were recruited, and data were collected from their survey responses about their daily experiences on the focal variables for 9 shifts over three consecutive working weeks. Results showed that within individuals, the three occupational stressors were positively associated with employee burnout and physical symptoms, and evidence was found that those associations might be mediated by anger, job satisfaction and role conflict. Further, ROCB was found to moderate some of the associations of occupational stressors with safety performance and employee well-being. However, the current study failed to find support for any of the hypotheses regarding perceived safety performance as a moderator in this sample. Findings, limitations and future directions were discussed.

How do people who experience unfairness respond toward those held accountable for the unfairness? Organizational Justice and Human Resource Management reviews the theoretical organizational justice literature and explores how the research on justice applies to various topics in organizational behavior, including personnel selection systems, performance appraisal, and the role of fairness in resolving workplace conflict. Authors Robert Folger and Russell Cropanzano introduce a framework of organizational justiceùFairness Theoryùthat integrates previous work in this area by focusing on accountability for events with negative impact on material or psychological well-being. The book concludes with a chapter highlighting those topics that represent promising future directions for research. Researchers, scholars, and doctoral-level students in human resources, organizational behavior, and ethics will find this a timely, thought-provoking resource.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Its Nature, Antecedents, and Consequences examines the vast amount of work that has been done on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) in recent years as it has increasingly evoked interest among researchers in organizational psychology. No doubt some of this interest can be attributed to the long-held intuitive sense that job satisfaction matters. Authors Dennis W. Organ, Philip M. Podsakoff, and Scott B. MacKenzie offer conceptual insight as they build upon the various works that have been done on the subject and seek to update the record about OCB. Key Features: Explores how OCB translates into objective measures of efficiency, profitability, customer satisfaction, and other criteria of organizational functioning Examines how important OCB is in other societal cultures and correlates findings from North American studies Addresses the relative importance of individual personality as a factor in determining OCB OCB has become a foundation for concepts in Organizational Studies. This book provides an all-encompassing resource for students, scholars, and practitioners looking for a comprehensive understanding on this key topic. It is an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying organizational behavior or organizational psychology in courses such as Strategic Human Resource Management, Measurement of Work Performance; Behavioral Organization Theory; and Social Psychology of Organizations.

Book excerpt: This study examined the relationship between individual values and value congruence and job satisfaction, organizational commitment, task performance, and organizational citizenship behavior. The present study was conducted with 192 sales personnel in a sales organization with offices along the eastern seaboard of the United States. The values systems this study examined included Hofstede's Work-Related Values System (1994) and O'Reilley, Chatman, and Caldwell's (1989) Person-Organization Profile Values System. A questionnaire was developed to measure Hofstede's Social, Power, Uncertainty, and Goal orientations. The relationship between the values within O'Reilley, Chatman, and Caldwell's Organizational Culture-Profile was also examined via a factor and item analyses. The analyses yielded three value dimensions: Interpersonal, Ambiguity, and Achievement. It was hypothesized that individual level values on Hofstede's Social, Power, and Goal Orientation would predict job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organization citizenship behavior. It was also expected that individual level values on Hofstede's Goal Orientation would predict task performance. In terms of the fit between the individual and organizational values, it was hypothesized that fit on Hofstede's four dimensions and O'Reilley, Chatman, and Caldwell's three dimensions would predict job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organization citizenship behavior. Also, it was expected that fit in terms of Hofstede's Goal Orientation and O'Reilley, Chatman, and Caldwell's Achievement Dimension would predict task performance. Results for the relationship between individual values, value congruence, and job outcomes provided partial support for the hypotheses. Hofstede's Uncertainty Orientation significantly predicted job satisfaction (r = -.20). Specifically, individuals who espoused more uncertainty avoiding values exhibited higher levels of satisfaction. Hofstede's Social Orientation (r = -.19) and Goal Orientation (r = -.25) were also found to significantly predict organizational commitment. Individuals who espoused more collectivist and aggressive goal behavior values exhibited greater levels of organizational commitment. Results for fit indicated that person-organization fit on Hofstede's Power Orientation significantly predicted job satisfaction (r = .17) and organizational commitment (r = .24). Fit on O'Reilley et al.'s Achievement Dimension was also found to be significantly related to task performance (r = .22). The impact of values and fit on job outcomes may have large implications for the financial success of some companies as well as the satisfaction and commitment of employees. Future research should explore other value systems and explore other operationalizations of fit.
