Book excerpt: From Graham Brown, co-author of the New York Times bestselling thriller Devil’s Gate with Clive Cussler, comes The Eden Prophecy . . . The wisdom of faith. The power of science. The evil of man. In the U.N. building in New York City, a U.S. Ambassador contracts an unknown virus after opening a threatening letter. In a slum near Paris, a rogue geneticist is found dead, tortured and defiled. His last message, a desperate plea for help, was sent to an old friend and fellow outcast, the ex-CIA agent and former mercenary named Hawker. His final legacy appears to be the fingerprints he left all over the letter to the Ambassador. Consumed by thoughts of revenge but fighting to see the truth, Hawker teams up with NRI operative Danielle Laidlaw on a quest to find the killers and track down the secrets his dead friend may have lost or sold. From the streets of Paris to an underground auction in the catacombs of Beirut to the merciless deserts of Iran, Hawker and Danielle find themselves hunting a murderous cult leader whose scientific arsenal could lead humanity to a new Eden—or unleash hell on the Earth itself.

Book excerpt: On the first day of her new school all that shy, wounded Eden wants is to finish her senior year and escape to college. It can't be too much to ask for, can it? Noah has spent two years not knowing why he failed to come of age as every one of his ancestors has. Two years drifting aimlessly, searching for direction... When the two meet the connection is instantaneous and undeniable. A connection that has Eden running and Noah burning to know more. A connection destined to be the catalyst for a prophecy that neither knew existed. A prophecy others are willing to kill for. As families rupture and struggle to realign, as their hearts connect and ignite, Eden learns to trust. But with their love and life on the line, Eden must find the power to believe. Prophecy Awakened is the first book in Tamar Sloan's Prime Prophecy Series. If you enjoyed Stephanie Meyer, Lauren Kate or Maggie Stiefvater, then you'll love a series that captures their best traits in an epic, captivating story of a love that defies boundaries.

Book excerpt: Prepare yourself for the paradise prophecy. Then pray it isn’t happening. An iconic, near saintly, pop singer dies suddenly, tragically in an inexplicable fire. She’s only the first victim in a series of similar, unspeakable deaths. Bernadette Callahan is an investigator at a shadowy government organization. She’s on the trail of a serial killer with ungodly means of disposal. Religious historian Sebastian LaLaurie knows that the crimes are more than the work of a psychopath, and that Bernadette is closing in on something she never bargained for. Now Sebastian must convince Bernadette to believe—in the power of fallen angels in disguise. In the ancient clues of the Bible. In the hellfire of a coming apocalypse. In the prophecies of Paradise Lost. And ultimately, in the unholy conspiracy upon them, one far beyond the scope of mankind’s darkest imagination. And one that no human can stop.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Columbus returned to Europe in the final days of 1500, ending his third voyage to the Indies not in triumph but in chains. Seeking to justify his actions and protect his rights, he began to compile biblical texts and excerpts from patristic writings and medieval theology in a manuscript known as the Book of Prophecies. This unprecedented collection was designed to support his vision of the discovery of the Indies as an important event in the process of human salvation - a first step toward the liberation of Jerusalem and the Holy Land from Muslim domination. This work is part of a twelve-volume series produced by U.C.L.A.'s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies which involved the collaboration of some forty scholars over the course of fourteen years. In this volume of the series, Roberto Rusconi has written a complete historical introduction to the Book of Prophecies, describing the manuscript's history and analyzing its principal themes. His edition of the documents, the only modern one, includes a complete critical apparatus and detailed commentary, while the facing-page English translations allow Columbus's work to be appreciated by the general public and scholars alike.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1888 edition. Excerpt: ... THE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND THREESCORE DAYS. It has been shown that a day, in prophecy, is counted for a year; and that the time and times and half a time of Dan. 7:25 are 1260 years. These were the years marked for the supremacy of the little horn, the papacy, during which it had power to wear out the saints of the Most High. The same time is marked in Revelation 12, as the period during which the dragon persecuted the woman, the Christian church, who fled into the wilderness. But the dragon may be said to do much of his work by proxy, for he gave his power and seat to the seven-headed and ten-horned beast, who also persecuted the saints, and prevailed forty and two months. Here are forty-two multiplied by thirty--the number of days in a month--making the same number of 1260 days, or years. This beast, which has all the main features of all the beasts of Daniel 7, receiving the dominion which they successively held, is identical with the little horn of that chapter. That rose up among the kingdoms that were founded on the ruins of the Roman Empire, and so did this beast. Their locality is the same; the extent of their dominion the same; their work of blasphemy and persecution the same; the period of their supremacy the same. Rev. 13:3. "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed." In the prophecy of Rev. 13:1-10, we must be careful to guard against an error into which many fall in the interpretation of prophecy, --we must not imbibe the idea that events are always recorded in the order of their fulfillment. Notice the case of the two-horned beast in verses 11-17 of this chapter. 1. In verse 4, the climax is reached--speaking like a dragon--at once, before the history is given. But in tracing...

Book excerpt: The hills of Appalachia and the legal profession are fertile hunting grounds for Tall Tales. On many occasions, you will find a True Confession that becomes intertwined with a Tall Tale and after time it becomes somewhat difficult to separate the two. This is a collection of those Tall Tales and True Confessions. The title to many of these, such as "The Streaking Bootlegger," Pick The One You Want," "Topless At The Horse Show," and many others may provide a clue as to the correct category and again they may not. It will be up to the reader to separate the Tall Tales from the True Confessions, if they wish to do so. Hopefully, this collection will be very entertaining whether or not they try to seperate the two.
