Book Synopsis The State and Women in the Economy by : Jean Larson Pyle
Download or read book The State and Women in the Economy written by Jean Larson Pyle and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1990-10-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the effect of state policies on womens roles in the economy. At the most concrete level it investigates the relative lack of response of womens labor force activity rates to export-led development in the Republic of Ireland. At a broader level, it provides critical insights into current labor market debates regarding the causes of womens subordination and the efficacy of state policies designed to alleviate them. The book shows how the state, in addition to and interactively with the workplace and household, can maintain gender inequality. In so doing, Pyle demonstrates the usefulness of a revitalized and broader structural approach to feminist analysis.
Book Synopsis The Economics of European Integration by : Willem Molle
Download or read book The Economics of European Integration written by Willem Molle and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. As economic integration touches ever more areas of society, more and more people are confronted by the bewildering complexity of the functioning of the European Union. Rather than merely focusing on the description of EU policies, this study of the economics of European integration seeks to: select the most relevant aspects and developments; place the wide variety of issues in a robust conceptual structure; integrate theoretical developments with the results of empirical research and of policy analysis; explain the logic of the dynamic processes; describe the structural features of the European economy; highlight the response of private companies to changes in the regulatory environment; depict the historical developments so as to give a sound basis for the understanding of the present situation and the likely future development; and set the European developments in the light of global developments. In practice Western Europe is the focus of major parts of this book.

This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pay Inequalities in the European Community presents a comparative analysis of the distribution of earnings from employment in six countries of the European Economic Community: Britain, Belgium, France, the federal Republic of Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The text covers aspects of the inequality of pay among individual workers: inequality between sectors and industries in the economy; between occupations and between men and women; assessment of the relative importance of the elements in inequality; and factors which may underlie differences in the patterns of distribution between countries such as training and promotion systems, trade union bargaining policies and institutions, and income policies. Economists, labor specialists, and researchers will find the book a good source of information.

Book Synopsis Women and Japanese Management by : Alice C L Lam
Download or read book Women and Japanese Management written by Alice C L Lam and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standard works on the employment systems of Japanese companies deal almost exclusively with men. Women, however, constitute the vast majority of the low wage, highly flexible "non-core" employees. This book breaks new ground in examining the role of Japanese women in industry. It assesses the extent to which growing pressure for equal opportunities between the sexes has caused Japanese companies to adapt their employment and personnel management practices in recent years. The author puts the argument in an historical perspective, covering the employment of Japanese women from the start of Japan's industrialisation up to the turning point of the 1986 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Law. She examines the background and execution of the legislation and she looks at the response of the business community. In her case study of the Seibu department store, which takes up the final part of the book, Lam concludes that the EEO Law has not had the desired effect.
Download or read book Rights Of Passage written by Irwin, Sarah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1995. This original and timely analysis of the transition from youth to adulthood breaks with traditional ideas about the labour market and demographic processes and makes an important and general contribution to understanding social change. Significant developments in the timing and experience of transition have not been satisfactorily addressed, nor understood in relation to general change in household and employment structure, Using primary data gathered in a survey of young adults and their parents, and existing evidence on the organisation of employment and demographic trends, the author analyses developments in the social organisation of dependence, independence and obligation. Delayed parenting and other aspects of the 'rights of passage' are explored in depth, and explained within their wider social context.
