Book Synopsis Social Class and Changing Families in an Unequal America by : Marcia J. Carlson
Download or read book Social Class and Changing Families in an Unequal America written by Marcia J. Carlson and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-21 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American families are far more diverse and complex today than they were 50 years ago. As ideas about marriage, divorce, and remarriage have changed, so too have our understandings about cohabitation, childbearing, parenting, and the transition to adulthood. Americans of all socioeconomic backgrounds have witnessed changes in the nature of family life, but as this book reveals, these changes play out in very different ways for the wealthy or well off than they do for the poor. Social Class and Changing Families in an Unequal America offers an up-to-the-moment assessment of the condition of the family in an era of growing inequality. Highlighting unique aspects of family behavior, it reveals the degree to which families' varying experiences are shaped by social class. This book offers a much needed assessment of contemporary family life amid the turbulent economic changes in the United States.

Download or read book Earth Angels written by Joey Lynn Sarkees and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-06-02 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth Angels is the true story of Molly Perchinski and sixteen of her Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Womens Rugby Club teammates who risked their young lives to save countless others after witnessing one of the worst accidents in Pennsylvania Turnpike history. On a foggy April morning in 2003, the women were en route to a rugby match when they became involved in a fog-related accident. They spent the next several hours aiding victims and helping medical personnel while in danger themselves. They operated as one unit while surrounded by burning vehicles, bleeding victims, and chaos. Their acts were selfless and brave. As a result, the women were honored by Readers Digest, the Pennsylvania State Police, and IUP. They were also highly recognized by local and national media. This is also the tragic story of the Moyer family, who was traveling to their native state of Connecticut to visit family when they became involved in the fog-related accident. At its core, Earth Angels focuses on social evolution and a strong sense of empowerment by a group of young women who clearly displayed a strength that was generated from the bond they formed playing a team sport together.

Book Synopsis Conformal Maps And Geometry by : Dmitry Beliaev
Download or read book Conformal Maps And Geometry written by Dmitry Beliaev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I very much enjoyed reading this book … Each chapter comes with well thought-out exercises, solutions to which are given at the end of the chapter. Conformal Maps and Geometry presents key topics in geometric function theory and the theory of univalent functions, and also prepares the reader to progress to study the SLE. It succeeds admirably on both counts.'MathSciNetGeometric function theory is one of the most interesting parts of complex analysis, an area that has become increasingly relevant as a key feature in the theory of Schramm-Loewner evolution.Though Riemann mapping theorem is frequently explored, there are few texts that discuss general theory of univalent maps, conformal invariants, and Loewner evolution. This textbook provides an accessible foundation of the theory of conformal maps and their connections with geometry. It offers a unique view of the field, as it is one of the first to discuss general theory of univalent maps at a graduate level, while introducing more complex theories of conformal invariants and extremal lengths. Conformal Maps and Geometry is an ideal resource for graduate courses in Complex Analysis or as an analytic prerequisite to study the theory of Schramm-Loewner evolution.
