Book Synopsis The Dragon's Last Gasp by : Woude' Wood
Download or read book The Dragon's Last Gasp written by Woude' Wood and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set during the post-Vietnam war era . the main character survives an inner city environment plagued with alcoholism and poverty. He is a quiet, educated, street wise recovering heroin addict who decides to move to stately Lakewood Ohio. It is a small reserved town, mostly composed of white burgher-types. It is integrated with blacks and some immigrants who are, for the most part, peaceable. Peace, though, had eluded the big city nearby in recent months. During this time the city lies in the grip of a serial murderers rampage against young women. The Dragons Last Gasp opens up on Clevelands streets, Woude Woods first novel, where you ride shotgun on a classy American suspense/detective fiction. Woods hero, Paul Long drives a classic vintage Fleetwood as he canvasses Clevelands inner city following the terrifying trail inside the killers stomping grounds. He and a childhood friend are determined to find out what happened to someone named Marcie --- one of the killers victims. She is tied to his own history of psychological and emotional experimentation with drugs and addiction-a hard, unforgiving bondage. Woods narrative is as sleek as the automobile Paul drives. The story reaches a stirring emotional level as Longs own inner struggle and the demons from his past are revealed.. He rubs elbows with street pharmacists, with local cops, with the night and its constituents searching for clues and tracking leads in the ghetto, stalking a killer who seems uncannily familiar. In addition, Wood manages to touch a raw nerve with his startlingly clear portrayals of the people living in the street. Chasing the Dragon will affect the reader profoundly. Wood builds up suspense and grit. His pictures of the cityscapes create a sense of forboding, preparing a surprising, unexpected and explosive showdown. The Dragons Last Gasp cycles through the classic icons of detective fiction with a deft touch. There is a fascinating blend of machismo coupled with deep-thinking. The heart of its hero is hypnotic, yet his presence is fundamentally sound and assuring in the night. The book thus succeeds not only in coming to grips with the Dragon, it brings justice home as secrets are exposed in the finale make it unmistakeably clear that this is indeed the Dragons last Gasp!

Book excerpt: He had it all: the heroin chic thing before it was chic, the scars, the swagger, an incredible stage presence. After bursting on to the Australian music scene in 1975, Dragon fast developed a reputation for both hard rocking and hard living. As the highly visible and charismatic lead singer, Marc Hunter was the voice behind such timeless hits as ‘April Sun in Cuba', ‘Are You Old Enough?' and ‘Rain'. Yet Hunter was also a maverick whose destructive genius and serious heroin addiction led to a turbulent relationship with his bandmates, including older brother Todd. And it contributed to his early death at just 44. Originally published in 2011, this intimate portrait was written with full co-operation from Marc's mother Voi and his brother and former bandmate Todd, as well as contributions from many high-profile Australian music personalities such as James Reyne, John Paul Young, Kate Fitzpatrick, Richard Clapton, Don Walker, Kevin Borich, Tommy Emmanuel and Robert Forster.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the Belgian Paracommando Regiment, the Congo was a familiar, though often hostile, environment. For most of the officers and sergeants of the regiment, the fields, buildings, and river below were as familiar as the Belgian landscape. But for most of the 340 enlisted men drifting in the sky over the airfield, the Congo was an unknown menace outside their military experience. Most of these paras were young draftees to whom the Congo represented a closed chapter in Belgium's colonial history. Yet even with the experience of its senior leadership, the Belgian Paracommandos faced a severe test on this early spring morning. The young paras and their seasoned leaders were conducting the first international hostage rescue in the post-World War II era. The challenge was enormous, the risks staggering; the Paracommandos were jumping into a perilous den of uncertainty. Stanleyville was at the heart of the Simba Rebellion and the scene of the growing desperation. Faced with a government ground assault, the Simba leaders had taken several thousand non-Congolese hostages to guard against what appeared to be imminent defeat. Keywords: Military operations.

Book Synopsis Revelation Exegetical Commentary - 2 volume set by : Robert L. Thomas
Download or read book Revelation Exegetical Commentary - 2 volume set written by Robert L. Thomas and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2016-08-15 with total page 1189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get back to the roots on Revelation Through the centuries since its writing, the book of Revelation has captured the fascination of the Christian church. The earliest Christians were unanimous in understanding it along a premillennial view of Jesus' second coming, but other hermeneutical approaches began to emerge in the third century. These clouded, and added complexity to, the task of explaining the book’s meaning. For most of the Christian era, consequently, many readers have viewed this last of the NT writings as though it were hopelessly embedded in an aura of deep mystery. An avalanche of interpretive literature has evidenced remarkable interest in the book’s contents, but along with the interest has come widespread bewilderment. Written especially for the informed layman, student, and scholar, this commentary seeks to clear the air. The book is interpreted according to a historical and grammatical hermeneutic and propounds a conservative, evangelical theology, but the reader will not get a narrow view on areas of disagreement. This commentary interacts with a range of major views, both evangelical and nonevangelical. It reaffirms the basic framework of eschatology espoused by ancient Christianity, but with added help from centuries of maturing thought and doctrinal progress in the Body of Christ. All exegesis and exposition in this 2-volume commentary are based on the original language of the text. Translations used are those of the author, and textual criticism and word study are included where appropriate. This in-depth commentary also includes extended excursuses on important topics of theological and historical interest.
